Chapter 59: Pairing him with Cecilia

No wonder Ethan’s advisor had always criticized his papers and called them nonsensical. His ability to express himself was even worse than Alex’s.

Steven frowned.

‘This damn Ethan is spewing nonsense again.’

"I told you last time, if there’s something wrong with your eyes, get them treated immediately."

Ethan explained hurriedly, “Big Brother, believe me. There’s nothing wrong with my eyes!"

"... Then it must be a brain issue. Zane, quickly arrange an appointment with the best neurologist in the city for him."

Zane stifled a laugh.

"Yes, Sir."

Ethan was so anxious that he spilled the coffee in his hand.

"Big Brother, you need to trust me. You have another child aside from Alex, and she’s currently living with Cecilia!"

Steven pondered.

Was he referring to... Cecilia’s daughter?

How could that be?!

It seemed like Ethan really did not have a brain issue, but he just had not learned a big enough lesson yet.

The last time he drugged both him and Cecilia, he didn’t bother dealing with it much and only gave a symbolic punishment. However, it seemed like Ethan was hooked on this plan he had.

He was really insistent on pairing him with Cecilia.

It went to the point that he was even eager enough to consider Cecilia’s child as his.

What kind of charm potion did she give him?

"Utter nonsense!" Steven shouted at Ethan.

"Stay out of my sight for half a month!"

Ethan could tell that Steven did not believe a word he was saying and was getting angry, so he had no choice but to give up.

If he continued, he might not make it out in one piece.

He could only leave sullenly.

He would have to beg that old man about his thesis again, but he had already told Steven the truth. If he dug into it in the future when he found out the truth, it wouldn’t be his responsibility anymore.

After Ethan left, Steven had no mood to work anymore.

Cecilia’s stunning face and the scent of gardenias around her filled his mind, lingering at his nostrils.

‘With Cecilia wanting to get close to me, why is she always doing it through Ethan...’

‘She could obviously just talk to me herself.’

‘Moreover, bringing up the child is just...’

‘Speaking of which, her daughter’s probably just as beautiful and smart as her. If she could really become my daughter, it wouldn’t be so bad...’

‘I could have both a son and a daughter.

‘Wait, what?’

Even he didn’t know why the thought of having a son and a daughter with Cecilia crossed his mind.

Realizing his thoughts were going off track, he quickly sat up straight and coughed awkwardly.

When he looked up, he saw Zane looking at him with a knowing expression.

Steven felt his fingertips getting a bit warm.

He pretended to be serious. "By the way, the evening banquet is about to start. Start the preparations."

Zane glanced at his watch.

"It’s only 1 PM, Sir."

"... Get going!"

Meanwhile, on Cecilia’s end, she looked at the eager expert and replied, "I’m not selling the prescription."

She was about to leave after saying that, but then she heard the expert regretfully saying something.

"Alright then. Just as Mr. Mitchell had found a way to resolve the company’s crisis, I guess we will have to give up again..."

Cecilia stopped in her tracks, puzzled.

"What do you mean by that?"

The expert looked surprised.

"Didn’t Mr. Mitchell or Mrs. Mitchell tell you? Someone had done a malicious report on their factory, claiming there are serious occupational diseases there, but Mr. Mitchell and Mrs. Mitchell refuse treatment and put their workers’ lives at risk..."

Cecilia understood now.

So, this was what Elena and James had been troubled by recently.

She thought for a moment and then turned to call Adrian, explaining the situation to him.

Adrian pondered for a while before responding.

"Let them use it. Saving so many lives is worth it."

After ending the call, Cecilia took the prescription notebook from the expert and started writing in it.

Five minutes later, she handed the notebook back to him.

"Here’s the prescription. However, only the Mitchell family can use it, and don’t say I was the one who gave it to them. No mass production is allowed."

Elena surely had her reasons for not mentioning it to her, so it was better if she acted like she didn’t know anything.

The expert nodded, his eyes full of excitement.

"I’ll try to make the concoction first. Once everything passes, I’ll present it to Mr. Mitchell and Mrs. Mitchell. After all, it’s tied to the health of many employees, so it has to be done well."

Cecilia nodded.

In the evening, outside of Star City International Hotel.

Cecilia looked at the banquet invitation in her hand and a smile tugged at her lips.

The banquet—known as the triennial Star Gala—was typically hosted by some of the fastest-rising companies or influential individuals, drawing leading figures from various industries. While she was abroad three years ago, she had received an invitation under the name of Riane, but she chose not to attend, unwilling to reveal her identity.

This year, she got an invitation again. She initially had no plans to participate, but she had heard that a top global lawyer named Lay would be attending. Thus, she decided to go in hopes she could discuss the legal matter of claiming Alex back from Steven.

As she approached the banquet hall door, she saw Elena and James at the entrance, looking anxious.

"This invitation was sent by your party," Elena explained.

Despite that, the doorman waved them off.

"We did invite you, but this was three months ago. Your Mitchell family’s reputation has been bad recently, so Mr. Warner said your invitation is now invalid. Please leave immediately."

Warner, once consistently overshadowed by them in the construction industry, had long been a competitor. But as Elena and James grew older, in addition to the recent public backlash, their business declined, giving their competitors a chance to rise.

Elena sighed. They came here, hoping to meet people in the medical field who might help overcome their difficulties, yet now they couldn’t even enter.

"Your Mitchell family likely won’t last long. You should hurry and leave unless you want me to call security. Tomorrow’s news will be all about you two getting kicked out..."

Cecilia frowned and was about to step forward. However, a clear female voice interrupted the doorman.

"Who has the guts to throw them out?"
