Global Awakening: Infinite Gift Pack System-Chapter 58: The Rewards and the Uncertainty
Just as the surge of energy settled in Kai’s body, another notification appeared before his eyes.
[ Congratulations! You are the First Survivor to reach Level 10! ]
This was a familiar notification. When he had reached Level 5 in the past, he had received a similar message.
Back then, the system had granted him Tier 2 Survivor Gear, a durable set of equipment that could actually adapt to his physique.
This time, however, the reward was far greater.
[ Reward Granted: Enhanced Gift Pack Bundle ]
[ Description: A system-forged bundle containing one Enhanced Gift Pack from each category: Energy, Entertainment, Food, Medical, Shelter, Stealth, Survival Tools, Transport, Water, and Weapon. Enhanced Gift Packs provide superior resources compared to their basic versions, offering better items, higher durability, and expanded utility. ]
Kai’s eyes widened.
He had grown familiar with the basic Gift Packs thanks to his SSS Talent, Infinite Gift Pack. But this was different.
These weren’t ordinary bundles. They were enhanced versions!
Just as the description said, they contained far greater resources than anything he had opened before.
His pulse quickened.
’This is perfect timing... Now, I’ll know what’s next.’ He mused.
Well, he couldn’t help but feel excited about this. After all, this might be the path of his Talent. Perhaps, in the future, his Infinite Gift Pack could evolve to generate Enhanced Gift Packs instead of the current Basic Gift Pack. It wasn’t possible yet, but the thought filled him with anticipation.
Right now, even if he hadn’t seen the contents yet, he could already imagine how good they’d be.
An Enhanced Food Pack could probably provide supplies that lasted weeks, maybe even delicacies that couldn’t be found before.
An Enhanced Weapon Pack might contain rare armament. Well, a higher caliber gun might also be better, considering how he only got a revolver for the current one.
Even the Entertainment Pack mattered. Kai believed morale was as vital as food in long‑term survival. He remembered the group of survivors who had betrayed Haven‑45... They were definitely not hungry, but they had been unhappy, restless, and disconnected.
Perhaps, with better Entertainment Packs, people would feel a sense of belonging and stability in the shelter he wanted to build.
And the Transport Pack... Kai’s lips curved faintly. He hoped this version would give him something better than the folding bike he could obtain.
Something faster, sturdier, something that could carry him across dangerous terrain would be welcomed.
He exhaled slowly, forcing himself to stay calm. He wanted to immediately open the bundle, but the system message hadn’t stopped yet.
[ Survivor Leaderboard Updated ]
[ Current Rank: #1 ]
[ Congratulations! You are now the first survivor to reach Level 10. ]
[ Reminder: Rankings will be recalculated every 30 days. ]
[ Maintain your position for 30 consecutive days to receive an Exclusive Reward. ]
Kai paused as he saw the message, as if he was being tasked to accept a mission to defend his ranking.
"So it’s here..." he muttered.
Apparently, he felt that the system wasn’t just acknowledging his achievement, it was challenging him.
Thirty days!
He had to hold his position against every survivor across the continent.
’This exclusive reward... you better make it worth it,’ Kai mused. There was no room for complacency. He had to continue working hard, pushing himself further, and ensuring no one could surpass him.
Of course, he wasn’t the only one who noticed the Leaderboard update. His companions immediately turned to him.
Claire’s eyes widened as she glanced at her own interface. Ralph gasped, and Victor let out a sharp whistle.
"Kai... you’re on the Leaderboard!" Claire exclaimed, her voice trembling with excitement.
Ralph grinned, shaking his head in disbelief. "The first one... Level 10 already. Damn, that’s insane."
Victor chuckled. He was awed at Kai’s achievement and couldn’t help but tease him a bit.
"Guess we’ve got a celebrity among us now."
Even Terrence and Jonas, who had been quiet, looked at him with a mix of respect and envy. Aurora’s lips also curved into a faint smile, her eyes lingering on him longer than usual.
Needless to say, they were all happy to be with the Rank 1 Survivor. They might not know how Kai had advanced so quickly, but simply being his allies made them feel safer, more confident.
For a moment, they forgot worrying about the families they left behind after they got separated during the Apocalypse Selection.
One by one, the survivors began to congratulate him.
Some clapped him on the shoulder, others nodded in acknowledgment. Their relief from surviving the siege now turned to admiration for the man who had just become Rank 1.
Kai forced a small smile, accepting their words, but inside, he was still concerned about his future.
’Thirty days... I can’t let my guard down. That reward is important. I’ll have to fight harder than ever.’
***
The congratulations lingered for a while, but soon the survivors’ attention shifted back to reality. Haven‑45, their shelter, was in ruins.
The walls were cracked, the barricades shattered, and the once‑secure tunnels had been torn apart during the siege.
They literally closed their entry points to ensure that the Sentinels, Hounds, and Swarmers wouldn’t find them.
As soon as they were able to carve a path to exit, Victor was the first to voice what everyone was thinking.
"We can’t stay here like this. Even if we patch the ceiling and walls, the foundation’s too damaged."
Ralph sighed as he also surveyed the wreckage. "Yeah... rebuilding is possible, but it’ll take a lot of time and resources. If we don’t do the repair properly, it might collapse on us someday.
Kai then glanced at Russel, Irene, and others who had been living in this shelter for a long time.
As expected, there was some hesitation in their faces since this place... was still their home.
Irene, the nurse who had cared for all the injured, noticed Kai’s gaze and nodded.
"Home is where we can live safely. If it’s true that the A.I. Army’s activity has gone low, maybe this is the time to move. Find somewhere stronger, somewhere we can build without fear of another siege breaking us so easily..." She softly said.
In the end, the final decision was on Kai.
To leave or not to leave...
