Chapter 492: 491, Pre-War Important Meeting (Part 1)_1
At 8:10 that morning, an important meeting was convened in a conference room on the 9th floor of a department building in East Sea City.
In attendance were Chairman Hu Jing of the United Federation Government, Zhang Ling, the Political Commissar of the China Military Region, Minister Zhong Feng, Deputy Minister Xue Wenli, Su Yu, and Elder Tao Qian.
It is worth mentioning that the Chairman Hu Jing did not attend in person, but was represented by a lifelike 3D projection.
This 3D projection technology came from Skru Star. Although the humans of Blue Star have not yet completely mastered this technology, its electrically powered nature means it is now fully operational.
The projection of Chairman Hu stood at the main seat in the conference room. Commissioner Zhang, Zhong Feng, and Xue Wenli sat on his right, while Su Yu and Elder Tao Qian sat on the left.
Also worth noting, Cat Morning Star was laid on the conference table in front of Su Yu.
Unusually, Morning Star wasn’t playing with a phone as usual but rather waited for the meeting to start, lying down on the table and swinging its tail.
A projector was placed in the center of the conference table. Xue Wenli controlled a computer that projected a video onto the screen on the opposite wall of the conference room.
Everyone’s gaze was drawn to this video.
The video was the same monster footage that Su Yu had just seen in the news, only much clearer than what Su Yu had initially watched.
The creature’s enormous body, its intimidating sharp teeth and claws, and each strand of fur were clearly visible – it was more shocking than anything seen in a special effects film.
Moreover, this monster was very agile, not clumsy like in special effects films.
Xue Wenli’s expression was very serious as she explained, “This is footage captured by an embedded reporter at Kun 1 (the first Spiritual Spring Eye in the Kunlun Mountain). The monsters from other small Spring Eyes are very similar.”
“As for the large Spring Eyes, due to technological constraints, we cannot comprehend what’s inside and thus have not been able to capture any valuable footage.”
Chairman Hu Jing nodded and looked to Su Yu and Elder Tao on his left: “Elder Tao, Comrade Su Yu, can you estimate the strength of this monster?”
Elder Tao smiled slightly, “I think it’s better to let young friend Su Yu answer this question, his estimates would be more accurate than mine.”
“Thank you for your confidence, Elder Tao.” Su Yu said seriously after a cupped-fist salute, “Based on my judgement, the comprehensive power of the monster in the video is around level five peak…”
At this point, Cat Morning Star intervened: “Nemesis, stop talking about ‘comprehensive power’. This monster is obviously a special assembled construct, and its power should be described in separate aspects.”
“Indeed, you’re right,” Su Yu replied while smiling and stroking the cat’s little head.
Su Yu’s action instantly evoked the envy of Xue Wenli across the table. Morning Star was the most beautiful cat in the world, glowing with starlight on its fur, but only Su Yu could pet it. Ordinary people like her couldn’t even get close.
“Let me explain again.” Su Yu looked at everyone, “The monster, as Morning Star mentioned, is a ‘special assembled construct’. Its offensive capability is just entering level five, even lower than many practitioners who’ve just promoted to level five.”
“However, the defensive power of this monster has reached a standard that is just a step away from level six. Many great masters of Yunlu Mountain cannot break its defense.”
“Is that so?” Chairman Hu Jing nodded after watching the video, “Then Nemesis, can our Blue Star’s nuclear bombs cause effective damage to them? At present, the nuclear missiles deployed by the United Federation military are all of the megaton range, with some of the top nuclear missiles reaching tens of millions of tons.”
“Well…” Su Yu fell into a deep thought, silently estimating in his mind.
About ten seconds later, he lifted his head and said to the Chairman, “A nuclear bomb with a yield of a million tons can cause damage to the monster. If it’s precisely a one-million-ton nuclear bomb, approximately two of these could eliminate one monster.”
Chairman Hu Jing breathed a sigh of relief, “Well, that’s good news. Luckily we have a sufficient stockpile of nuclear warheads.”
After four months of effort by the Federation Government, the number of nuclear warheads had doubled. The current global stockpile was over sixty thousand. Thus, using a part of this stockpile to annihilate the three thousand odd monsters wouldn’t be too consuming.
But at this moment, Commissioner Zhang spoke up seriously, “Chairman Hu Jing, I must be the cold water on your enthusiasm here.”
“If we use around five or six thousand nuclear warheads to annihilate the monsters, it will cause numerous problems! The warheads will produce a lot of strong radioactive fallout, which would be a huge disaster for us humans.”
Zhong Feng who was sitting next to him also nodded,
“Yes, this would amount to defeating the enemy but severely damaging ourselves in the process. Moreover, if these monsters appear in densely populated areas, there’s no way we will be able to launch nuclear weapons. Therefore, we cannot rely solely on nuclear weapons.”
Chairman Hu Jing looked at Commissioner Zhang and Zhong Feng and said, “You don’t think I know that? Isn’t the purpose of this meeting to discuss a conventional response plan?”
He then turned to look at Su Yu, “Comrade Su Yu, do the Skru people have ways to deal with radiation fallout from nuclear explosions?”
Su Yu nodded, “Certainly, the Skru people possess a special kind of nanomaterial that can completely absorb nuclear radiation. Next time I visit Skru Star, I can ask Beak Country for some… however, I should also add something.”
Su Yu stated solemnly, “According to my judgement, with over 99% certainty, the Skru people will use a ‘gravitational funnel’ to gather all the monsters in one place, meaning that the monsters will surely aggregate.”
“No matter which country the place is in, if we direct our nuclear warheads there, the successive nuclear explosions from thousands of nuclear weapons would cause larger ecological disasters!”
“Oh?”
Upon hearing Su Yu’s words, Chairman Hu Jing, Commissioner Zhang, and Zhong Feng looked at each other, then turned their gaze to him.
Zhong Feng asked seriously, “99% probability of using a gravitational funnel? Nemesis, why are you so certain?”
Before Su Yu had returned, the military and related departments had held discussions on the topic of “Will the Skru people use the ‘gravitational funnel’?” but came to no substantial conclusion.
Surprisingly, Su Yu was quite certain.
Leaning back in his chair with his arms crossed, Su Yu confidently said, “Based on what I know about Emperor Manina XIII, this is almost certain.”
“There are only two possibilities for the Skru people to release monsters. One is to directly release them from the base, the other is to use the gravitational funnel.”
“Most Skru bases are located in remote, unpopulated mountainous areas, and they are surrounded by military bases. Releasing monsters from there would hardly cause great harm.”
“But using a gravitational funnel is different. If they use it, there’s a high chance they could annihilate a country. Moreover, they could drop the monsters in densely populated areas to prevent us from using nuclear weapons.”
“That’s why I say with 99% certainty that the Skru people will use the gravitational funnel, I’m sure this point is indisputable.”
