Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe-Chapter 717: Rumors and Whispers
The young man who had spoken just now stepped forward and spoke in a threatening manner, "Now you know this table is reserved. So leave."
Adam looked around innocently, then he gazed at the man and replied, "But where do I go, friend? It appears that all the other tables have been occupied."
BAM!
The man slammed his fist on the table, his expression darkening. "That's your problem now, isn't it? Don't make me repeat myself over and over again. Fuckin' leave!"
A tense atmosphere descended between the two groups. Kael glanced at Adam, wondering why he was so adamant about staying at this table and picking a fight with this group of newcomers when they should actually be laying low.
"Hmm." Adam stroked his chin, deep in thought. Suddenly, his eyes lit up and he grinned, "How about this? Why don't you share the table with us?"
Seeing the growing dissatisfaction in the young man's eyes, Adam added with a smirk, "I'll also pay for all your drinks. You see, my brother and I are new to Blackshore, so it wouldn't hurt to make some new friends now, would it?"
The young man who had been quarreling with Adam suddenly raised his eyebrows in surprise. He gazed at Adam and Kael's clothes and wondered if they could even afford everyone's drinks at such an expensive establishment.
Right at that moment, the entry manager from earlier arrived at the table, seemingly drawn by the light commotion between the group.
However, he ignored the group of newcomers and directly addressed Adam and Kael with a fawning smile, "My Lords, please accept this freshly brewed wine. It is on the house!"
"Ohh?" Adam's eyes lit up and he grabbed the bottle. "Freshly brewed, you say?"
"Of course! Of course!" The manager bowed respectfully. "Nothing less for Silver Vess' men!"
Silver Vess! When the group of young men heard the manager mention the most infamous slaver in Blackthorne, they were stunned.
They looked at Adam and Kael and thought in shock, These two work for her?!
At once, the one who was arguing with Adam suddenly turned around and gazed at the blond young man standing at the center with an inquiring gaze.
Before the blond young man could answer, the manager's gaze was drawn to him and he couldn't help but remark, "Young Lord Colbert? Ah, forgive me, I didn't see you there!"
The manager then looked at Colbert's group and then at Adam and Kael, immediately understanding what the reason for the tension might have been.
Stuck in a tight spot, he didn't know how to diffuse the situation. Adam and Kael worked for Silver Vess, but Colbert also had an equally deep background.
Just when he was struggling to come up with a solution, Adam spoke up with a grin, "How about you get a few more bottles to this table for our new friends here? And by a few more bottles I mean at least a dozen."
"…A dozen?" The entry manager spoke in a daze. "But, my lord, I'm afraid they cannot be complementary."
"Ah, but you'll still give me a heavy discount, right?" Adam's eyes narrowed.
"Right?" He pressed with a cold voice.
"Y-Yes, right away!" The middle-aged man hurriedly turned around and left.
Adam then glanced at Colbert and his group and smiled amicably, "Now then! Where were we? Right! My brother and I are new here! It would be nice to get along, no?"
Colbert looked at Adam with a stoic face. Soon, his lips curled into a faint smile, "Sure, but you're still going pay for all the drinks, yes?"
"Haha!" Adam forced an awkward laugh. "I'm a man of my word."
Colbert's group, consisting of half a dozen people, including him, sat at the table, sharing food and drinks with Adam and Kael.
Kael wasn't one to talk much, so he simply ate food and observed. Only after several rounds of drinks when everyone was tipsy, did he learn who Colbert was.
Colbert Black was the eldest son of Dean Black, a Rank 2 Magus and a highly influential merchant in Blackshore.
However, it was not Dean Black's wealth that surprised Kael, but the fact that his person was in direct opposition to the current people sitting at the loose council.
Direct opposition, as in, he opposed the people and not the council itself. After all, he along with several other influential and infamous people of Blackshore were vying for the position of councilor!
I see, Kael thought to himself in realization.
So that's why he's targeting Dean Black's son, Colbert Black.

To sow discord between the current members of the council and the ambitious ones who are vying for their positions!
This was the true essence of how an agent of the Twilight Brotherhood operated.
Conducting business through scheming, subtle nudging, and more than a little manipulation.
More often than not, the agents of the Brotherhood helped guide the events, rather than becoming a direct cause.
They preferred to work in the shadows, discreetly.
Sending one person to slip in and do a job where an army couldn't. Act as political manipulators and information brokers, working with the common people.
Spells and swords were rarely needed when rumors and whispers proved to be more effective.
Realizing this, Kael couldn't help but smirk faintly. He then paid attention to Adam's conversation with Colbert.
"Who would have thought that you were related to the great merchant, Magus Dean Black?!" Adam laughed in a drunken stupor.
Colbert too laughed boisterously, "Hahaha! My friend, Mada, who would have thought that you would be related to Silver Vess?! Haha, what a wonderful surprise this is!"
The two put their arms around each other's shoulders and toasted to this new friendship.
Adam then looked at the blond young man and said, "Colbert—hiccup—now that we've shared drinks… I consider you my friend, yeah?"
"Yeah, yeah!" Colbert nodded his head like a chicken.
Adam's drunken eyes flashed with cunning as he smiled, "Then, I must tell you about this dirty rumor that one of my men heard about your father…"
"Dirty rumor?" Colbert was furious. "Who would dare!"
"Ah, I cannot divulge the name of that person, oh, I cannot!" Adam spoke dramatically. "He is far too influential, I say!"
Colbert placed his hand on Adam's shoulder and assured him, "My friend, Mada, rest assured! The influence of the Black Mercantile Family is nothing to scoff at as well!"
"My friend…" Adam's lips quivered. He took another swig of alcohol, seemingly trying to gain courage from the inside the bottom of the bottle.
His eyes flashed with seriousness and he stated, "This rumor about your father… I hear it was started by someone working for one of the councilors of Blackshore!"
