Chapter 890: Making a Statement

The sea of white daffodils was only the prelude...

Each of the daffodils had been planted with a seed of spiritual energy by Adam. He had gotten the idea to pull off such an attempt by taking inspiration from the Devil of Secrets.

Needless to say, his spell was nothing as vile and insidious as the devil’s.

The seeds inside the daffodils served only one purpose - to identify the Mana Vortex Magi gathered in the crowd.

After all, until and unless one cast a spell or proactively radiated their mana fluctuations, it was nigh impossible to tell what arcane rank they were.

The exception to this was that stronger Magi could tell the arcane ranks of the weaker Magi.

An invisible thread connected all the seeds inside the white daffodils. Once Adam had identified where the Mana Vortex Magi of the various factions had gathered, he cast another spell.

This one... in secret!

As the thousands of floating defodils exploded one after another, bathing the city in an ethereal glow, the Mana Vortex Magi in the crowd stiffened.

Their hearts skipped a beat.

An oppressive weight suddenly descended upon them.

It was invisible, silent, yet overwhelming.

Like an unseen colossus had just set its gaze on them.

Their breathing grew shallow.

That feeling... the tyrannical pressure...

It was suffocating!

And it came from one person and one person only.

Knowing that the Mana Foundation Magi, the Mana Liquefaction Magi, and the mortals around them were completely fine, all oblivious to the fact of what was happening to them as they enjoyed the fireworks, the Mana Vortex Magi knew...

This was the Dark King making a statement!

Rank 3 Spell: Amplify Gravity!

In that split moment where everyone’s gaze was drawn to the magnificent fireworks in the night sky, Adam had cast several spells one after another, right underneath the Mana Vortex Magi’s feet.

It took a large amount of mana expenditure to cast so many spells at once. Moreover, the expansive scale of it was only possible thanks to the threads connecting all the daffodils via his spiritual energy seeds.

The mana and spiritual energy acted in unison, complementing one another and forming such a grand feat of magical brilliance.

A drop of sweat trickled down Adam’s forehead, and he slightly grimaced. But the smirk on his lips never faltered.

That was tougher than I expected, he mused.

But definitely worth it!

***

The old man with the hunched back, who was standing beside the crown prince, suddenly lost his footing and miserably fell to the ground.

But his well-being was the least of his worries. His alarmed gaze instantly shifted to the middle-aged man beside him. "Your Highness, are you alright?!"

The Prince of Acadia, stood tall and unyielding despite the pressure of gravity bearing down on him. His fingers had dug into the railing and his lips har formed a grin.

"Truly fascinating, Dark King!"

The gravitational force was present for only a few moments, but it was enough to leave a deep impression.

***

"Lord Kaspar, are you alright?" Daryl asked with a concerned look on his face.

No one knew what truly happened. One moment the elderly man was enjoying the brillaint fireworks in the sky, the next moment he was staggering, trying to find balance.

If it wasn’t for Daryl, Kaspar would have miserably fallen to the ground.

The old man’s back was drenched in cold sweat. In those few moments when the gravity had increased, he felt like his heart was gripped by an invisible hand.

He turned to the crimson-haired princess, his eyes trembling with anxiety.

"What happened?" Anna looked at her protector, utterly confused and panic-stricken.

"Your brother..." Kaspar York began, his voice shaky. "Is a monster!"

***

"Kahaha!" Edwin Turner stood tall like a monolith, his arms crossed before him.

He gazed at the rest of the professors from the Tower; some had stumbled to the ground, while others managed to retain their balance.

He then turned to Edward and spoke with a grin, "So you’re telling me you all didn’t feel a thing just now?"

Edward shook his head, confused. "Were we supposed to?"

"Kahaha!" Edwin laughed even louder.

His gaze shifted to Adam’s departing back, and he couldn’t help but praise, "Magnificent! Truly magnificent!"

***

"Profesor!" Chris Cloud called out in alarm as he saw the elderly woman miserably fall on the floor.

He and Mikar Atkins gently helped her to her feet, their faces strewn with panic. They couldn’t help but wonder if their professor had been attacked.

Soner Pitt, the Professor from Greefield Ridge couldn’t be bothered about her embarassment, or that the fact that the other professors from the instituition also did not fare any better.

Her gaze was drawn to the Dark King’s departing back, hey eyes tainted with shock and... fright.

"...It can’t be!" she muttered incredulously.

To be able to cast a spell on selected targets in a crowd of tens of thousands... Soner Pitt loudly gulped.

Has he already... surpassed us all?!

***

Standing at the open mezzanine in Council Keep, all the Councilors of Ravenfell—except one—had gathered with their families. Moreover, other influential aristocrats were also present.

All the Mana Vortex Magi had felt the tyrranical shift in gravity that occured for a few seconds, leaving them shocked.

"That cheeky little brat!" Sabrina Benton, standing straight as an arrow, revealed a faint smirk. "Using gravity magic to embarrass us, eh? Not bad. Although Mathilda won’t be happy about it."

Beside her, her eldest son, Nash Benton, muttered in surprise, "And he only targeted the Mana Vortex Magi... Truly extraordinary!"

Of all the Mana Vortex Magi standing on the open structure, only a few had managed to remain standing—these two included.

Meanwhile, Marden Benton, Sabrina’s youngest son, clumsily grabbed the marble railings and got to his feet.

He had truly embarrassed himself by falling so miserably, but so had a few other people near him.

But that was not what he cared about.

"I see!" He exclaimed as he properly settled his round, crystal glasses.

"He must have located us through the flowers earlier! I could sense faint spiritual energy fluctuations from them! I just know it... That has to be the case! Truly ingenious!"

Hammon McLeod, Ives Ballard, and Taron Norwood had ghastly expressions on their faces. They had lost balance just now due to Adam’s antics and couldn’t help but feel greatly embarrassed.

Daniel Ranzenberg, on the other hand, stood unfazed as he glanced at Adam making his way towards Council Keep. He didn’t utter a word about the gravity spell, and his thoughts were a mystery.

As the crowd enjoyed the brilliant fireworks caused by the detonation of thousands of daffodils in the sky, Adam made his way inside Council Keep along with his men.

By the time the fireworks had ceased, Sabrina Benton stepped forward as she cast a voice amplification spell.

She raised her arms wide, her voice ringing clear and resolute across the boulevard.

"People of Acadia... let the Grand Magus Tournament officially begin!"

A deafening cheer erupted from the crowd. Trumpets blared. Banners were unfurled.

And in that moment... the city of Ravenfell trembled, not with fear, but with roaring anticipation!

***

While the crowd celebrated in euphoric delight, far removed from the cheers and fanfare, an old Magus stood atop a spire of a distant building, cloaked in black robes that fluttered gently in the wind.

His face bore no emotion as he watched the spectacle unfold below... at least not until Adam cast his final spell.

The moment that invisible surge of gravity magic pressed down upon the Mana Vortex Magi, a subtle smile formed on his lips.

He took a slow drag from his pipe, savoring the flavour of fine tobacco. After exhaling a smooth plume of smoke, Headmaster Marcus Blackwood murmured to the empty rooftop, "What do you think?"

There was no one standing beside him. Yet, the next moment, an aged voice echoed around him.

"Maestro of magic."

Hearing such words of praise, Headmaster Blackwood’s smile deepened, his eyes flickering with pride.

Then, without so much as a whisper of sound, his body dissolved into a flurry of black feathers, scattering into countless ravens that soared into the night sky

Disappearing without a trace.

***

At the same time, high above the clouds, a mysterious figure silently observed the events in Ravenfell unfold.

Unseen.

Unknown.

And completely unnoticed.

From the moment Adam entered through the western gates to the instant he stepped into Council Keep, the figure’s gaze never wavered.

After witnessing it all, he let out a low chuckle.

"Not bad, boy."

The next moment, his form dissipated into wisps of smoke and vanished with the wind.

With none being the wiser...
