Guide To Train My Beast Husbands-Chapter 258: A Lesson for The Elders (II)
The elders also realised that they might have made a mistake. Elder Qin immediately said to Ruan Chanchan and Chief Xie, "What I meant to say was that it was tiny when I first saw it in the morning. How was I supposed to know that this thing was supposed to be the statue of the river guardian? I thought it was something that you came up with, Chanchan. But to make the river guardian’s statue and even establish it without asking us, that’s really no less than sinning."
Yeah, of course; after all, you are so special! mocked Xiao Xi with a roll of his eyes, not liking the way these elders were speaking to Ruan Chanchan.
Ruan Chanchan smiled and didn’t seem to take any offence. She simply said, "That’s because we were waiting for the statue to finish. What was the point of telling the elders about the making of this statue beforehand? It is, in fact, a good thing that we didn’t tell the elders about the statue or else you would be in trouble."
"What do you mean that we would have been in trouble?" Elder Pei asked suspiciously as she narrowed her eyes and looked at the woman in front of her. She had a feeling that Ruan Chanchan was hiding something from them. Or maybe she was trying to make a fool out of them. How could they be in trouble if they came to find out about the making of the statue?
"Isn’t it because of the river guardian? He wanted everyone who was involved in the making of this statue to offer at least twenty drops of their blood. You see the red in it? It’s the blood of the makers as well as mine and the chiefs. How could we ask our precious elders to take out more than twenty drops of blood and offer it to the river guardian?" Ruan Chanchan touched both of her ears as if she were worried about sinning just because she had made that suggestion.
She then turned to look at Chief Xie and said, "Was it not painful, Chief?"
"Huh? Oh, yes," Chief Xie agreed right away as soon as she cottoned onto what Ruan Chanchan was trying to do. She shook her head and sighed, "Indeed, we had to slash our palms and offer our blood to the river guardian." Though Chief Xie felt a bit guilty about lying in the name of the river guardian, she knew that if she didn’t do it, these elders wouldn’t let them establish the river guardian’s statue. So, she went along with Ruan Chanchan. It was better to lie and get this statue established rather than make the river guardian angry. Who knows if the river guardian started to believe that Ruan Chanchan lied to him and stopped the flow of the river?
What would happen then? Wouldn’t they be suffering a loss even bigger than they had suffered before? What was more, the totem warriors were quite happy when they heard that they didn’t need to travel to the small mountains to bring water anymore.
She couldn’t disappoint them because of these elders.
She then turned to the tribe members, who also started nodding at once.
"That’s right, I had to offer my blood to the river guardian."
"The chief slashed our palms and had us offer the blood... Elder Guo, if you wanted to join in the fun, you should have said so earlier. You could have saved us from the pain."
"We only needed twenty people to offer the blood; if the elders wanted to join in the offering, then we could have simply asked the elders to offer their blood. That way, we could have saved the pain for ourselves."
"What? How dare you!?" Elder Guo was furious when she heard that these cripples wanted to slash her palm and then use her blood for that, too – to mix it with dung and mud? Had they lost their minds? Do they even know how precious her blood was?
Ruan Chanchan blinked at her in surprise, while the rest of the tribe members flinched as if they were surprised by the sudden scolding. Seeing this, Ruan Chanchan said in a low voice, "What is the matter, Elder Guo? Were you not the one who said that we should have told you about the making of the statue? Why are you getting angry? Anyway, since you have already come so close to the majestic statue of the river guardian, you might as well offer your blood to him."
"I am not doing it!" Elder Guo screeched. How long had it been since she had suffered through any kind of pain? How could she allow these brats to cut her skin open and then take her blood? This was not allowed at all!
"Well, you are too late to say that," Ruan Chanchan said with an apologetic note in her voice, but her eyes were filled with a sly glint. "Since you have already witnessed the glory of the majestic river guardian, you have no other choice but to offer your blood to him."
She then turned to look at Chief Xie, who was stupefied by the course of action, but upon being stared at by Ruan Chanchan, she had no other choice but to bite the bullet. She turned to look at the elders and smiled at them apologetically. "I am really sorry about this, elders. But you heard her. This was the request of the river guardian; we tried to keep you all safe but —" She sighed. "Who would have thought that you all would come looking for us before we could even establish the statue? Since this has already happened, you might as well grit your teeth and offer your blood to the river guardian."
Chief Xie then added, "I hope you will not mind."
Elder Guo opened her mouth to refuse, but she was cut off by Ruan Chanchan, "Of course, they will agree. Why won’t they agree? I mean, none of the elders would want the newly formed river blessed by the river guardian to dry up?"
