Shao Yu hated Xie Daiyu for abandoning their family and he hated Chief Xie for causing trouble for their family. He also hated Ruan Chanchan for interfering between his sister and Xie Daiyu. If that woman had not intervened, then things would have never gone down this lane. They might still have the chance to turn things around but with Ruan Chanchan interfering, his sister no longer had the chance to get together with Xie Daiyu.

And the one who was suffering in the end was him. His father was still acting like a spoiled little mer, he refused to believe that his daughter had abandoned him. He was still waiting for her to return and lead him back to the glourious life that he once had but Shao Yu was smarter than his father. He knew that his sister had changed and she had no desire to take care of them any further.

She was not going to raise them any further.

So while his father was still deluding himself, the task of working hard and collecting food for their familt fell on top of his head. Every day Shao Yu had to climb up the mountains, collect mushrooms and then bring these mushrooms back to the tribe. In return, he only received a little meat and mushrooms and most of it went inside his father’s stomach, who still believed that he was living his finest life.

"Aren’t you speaking too much, Shao Yu?" Shao Xia was furious when she heard her brother make such an audacious remark. She whipped around and glared at him.

Shao Yu simply smiled upon hearing his sister’s remark. He curled his lips and stated in a low voice, "What if I am speaking too much? At least I am simply speaking and not doing anything else. There are some people who are shameless enough to abandon their families and then live as if they had done nothing wrong. Compared to them, I am much better. Aren’t I?"

After he finished speaking, he turned on his feet and continued climbing up the mountains. As he had been moved to live with other families who had lost the protection of their totem warriors, they no longer had the right to live near the grounds and could only live at the top of the mountains. That was the place that was given to the orphans, the weak and the crippled. That was what he was reduced to just because his sister refused to accept his father and him.

That was his reality now!

Shao Yu gritted his teeth in hatred. He swore that once he awakened as a powerful totem warrior, he would make everyone who made him suffer pay for the humiliation that he was made to suffer at the hands of others. He would definitely make them pay!

While Shao Yu was planning his revenge, Ruan Chanchan and Xie Daiyu had no idea that they had made an enemy for no reason. The two of them were still entangled in their tag war.

"I said stop!" Ruan Chanchan shouted at the mer who was running as if his life depended on it. However, how could Xie Daiyu stop? He only increased his pace even further as he started to run even faster. There was no way he was going to stop now. No way.

Xie Daiyu ran as hard as he could and broke past the clearing.

Chief Xie watched her son run and was speechless. She was looking at the two of them streaking across the camp, and felt truly helpless and confused for the first time. She turned to look at her husband and asked in a low voice, "Why is our son running like he is some sort of prey?"

"Oh hush, you don’t know; this is nothing but an exciting play between the two children." Father Xie gushed as he watched his son being chased by his wife. When he was young, he too wanted to play like this with his wife but unfortunately for him, he couldn’t because his wife became the chief of the tribe at a very young age.

Well, he couldn’t play around like he wanted but at least his son could play!

Chief Xie: "..."

She turned and looked at her son and from the fear on his face, it did not seem like the two of them were just playing around. Just what kind of filter was her husband using? Or was there something she as a straight woman couldn’t see?

When Ruan Chanchan saw that the mer was stopping, she couldn’t help but breathe through her mouth. In the end, Xie Daiyu was a totem warrior and she was still recovering her strength. How could she chase him till the end? Her lungs started to burn and her vision started to blur as she slowed down before leaning against the tree. She was panting hard with sweat dripping down her face and onto the ground.

Xie Daiyu, who was running ahead of her, paused and turned to look behind him when he saw Ruan Chanchan leaning against a tree trunk, he felt a bit worried. Looking at Ruan Chanchan, it seemed like she was a bit tired, which was not a surprise given that the woman was not a totem warrior. He thought about it a little but just as he turned around to walk over to where Ruan Chanchan was standing, the woman scrunched up her fingers and tore off a piece of bark from the tree against which she was leaning.

She slowly raised her head and locked gaze with him.

Xie Daiyu: "..."

He suddenly felt the fear within him intensify. He took a step back while looking at Ruan Chanchan, something about the look in her eyes made it impossible for him to look away.

"XIE."

"DAIYU!" 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

Ruan Chanchan roared as she smashed the bark against his feet and picked up her pace once again and this time she chased after him like she had come straight out of hell.
