Chapter 277: I will listen to you (II)

"Xie Daiyu!" Ruan Chanchan yelled after the mer. "You better stop running before I lose my temper."

"I cannot stop!" he yelled back. "I have a feeling that you are going to hit me."

"I will not hit you."

"Do you promise?"

"I do not!"

"Then there is no way I am stopping!" no matter how Xie Daiyu thought about it, the disadvantages outweighed the advantages. There was no way he was going to stop.

Ruan Chanchan gritted her teeth and followed the mer, who dashed towards the riverbank.

And it was a bad idea. A really bad one because Ruan Chanchan knew this path like the back of her hand. There was a time when she sneaked through these paths without anyone knowing. How could she not know which turn to take to catch this mer? She shifted on his feet and then went to the slope that she knew would help her in catching Xie Daiyu.

Before Xie Daiyu could realise what was happening and skid to a halt, he was already falling straight into her arms.

The two of them collided before tumbling down onto the floor. Because Xie Daiyu’s intensity was way too fast, the two of them rolled onto the floor. Once, twice and thrice, the two of them went rolling down the slope. Leaves, dirt and muck stuck to their skin and hair, making them look even messier than before. And when they finally came to a stop, Xie Daiyu realised that their situation was a bit too ambiguous. With him being flat on his back and Ruan Chanchan stradling his waist, with both of her hands planted on either side of his shoulders.

He froze, feeling heat rush all the way to his head. His head suddenly started to feel lightheaded and his face went red all the way to the tips of his ears.

"I wasn’t...this is... I...this isn’t...," he stammered.

Ruan Chanchan, who was panting hard, leaned forward and sneered. With her lips barely away from his, she said in a sweet voice, "Run. Why don’t you run? Continue running and see how I will drag you back by your tail."

Xie Daiyu gulped. He did not dare to run.

Ruan Chanchan saw that the mer had stopped running and was lying like a fish on a chopping board, and pulled away. She sighed and then sat back, still pinning him down with ease.

"Now," she spoke in a light-hearted voice as if she didn’t see anything wrong with the current situation. "Start talking. Why are you avoiding me, and why are you running like I am going to eat you? You better speak the truth or else I have many ways to make you speak."

Xie Daiyu: "..."

He didn’t know how to tell the woman that at that moment, he had nothing else in his head. The only thing that he could feel or think of was Ruan Chanchan’s warm thighs squeezing him.

Seeing that the mer was not talking, Ruan Chanchan heavily sighed. "I know what your mother told you to do."

Xie Daiyu stiffened. He had no idea how Ruan Chanchan found out but the second he heard her say it, Xie Daiyu felt as if someone had dumped ice water on his head. He pursed his lips and admitted his guilt, "I ...I never intended to do that. That’s why I didn’t tell you. I might be a bit scheming but I am not completely heartless. There is no way I will tie you..tie you down with a child. That is the reason why I thought that there was no need for us to go through such trouble."

Ruan Chanchan stared at the mer who was staring at everywhere but at her. She narrowed her eyes and said to him, "That’s not all. There is something more, isn’t there? There is no way you were hiding from me for this reason alone." Ruan Chanchan was not angry when she heard that Chief Xie wanted Xie Daiyu to get pregnant. In a way she understood the worries of the poor woman as well. That woman was worried that Ruan Chanchan would leave the tribe and it would lead to more chaos in the tribe. But what she hated was what Xie Daiyu thought.

Did he think that she was someone who would jump ship just because she saw the benefits? Though she was but Ruan Chanchan hated it when someone took her as a traitor. Even if she were to leave this tribe, she would do it after clearing everything up and helping this tribe go to the top, and she would only leave when everyone had crossed her limits. She was not like Shao Xia, lost in her arrogance, where she would foolishly think that everyone was bullying her.

She would only leave this tribe if someone stepped on her bottom line.

Xie Daiyu clenched his fingers and turned his head to one side. Swallowing hard, he said in a low voice, "Do you know that too?"

"I do." Ruan Chanchan didn’t lie to the mer. This time she wanted to hear what Xie Daiyu truly thought because she was not a fool. In the past she foolishly turned a deaf ear to what her husbands wanted to tell her, which led to the three of them being filled with resentment. The three of them hated her for what she had done to them and even wanted to kill her.

They even hoped that it would be much better if she died outside and never returned. Ruan Chanchan shook her head just thinking about how she had acted like a fool. Never again would she act so silly.

She tipped the face of the mer to the right such that he was looking at her. "Tell me, what do you want to say? I will listen to what you have to say without judging you."

Without judging him? He was being judged wherever he went these days, thought Xie Daiyu wryly.
