Harry Potter and the Secret Treasures-Chapter 1283: The Third Change
It certainly was not dragon’s blood, that thing was ridiculously expensive.
The school would not use dragon’s blood to make food, that would be a complete waste of money.
Besides, vampires just needed to replenish blood, any kind would do, and they could also eat some other food appropriately.
Only someone as picky as Elaine would insist on drinking dragon blood.
Following her gaze, Evan saw three nervous-looking first-years seated at the far end of the Slytherin table. Their eyes were all red — though not as pure as Elaine’s — and their skin was paler than that of others around them. The Slytherin students were keeping their distance; no one was going near them just yet.
These three guys seemed to be isolated by the Slytherins.
It was not surprising that this situation would occur. This House paid attention to family names and backgrounds, but vampires from the Slytherin clan were not well-regarded here. Slytherins might care about bloodlines, but even more so about power and pure heritage.
Vampires certainly had no power in the Wizarding World. Not long ago, they were still feared as Dark creatures hunted by everyone.
So, were they truly purebloods? This was an interesting question.
In Evan’s view, vampires passed down their lineage through the act of the First Embrace, transforming the body rather than passing traits through inheritance.
Any wizard or even a Muggle could become a vampire as long as the Embrace was successful.
Just like Cedric, in a sense, he was now also a member of the Slytherin vampire clan.
From this perspective, vampires had a wide variety of origins.
Not to mention preserving bloodline purity — in fact, their behavior was practically a stain on pure-blood ideals. And with the Slytherin surname, they were even considered a disgrace to that ancient and noble lineage.
The Slytherins, who considered themselves superior, did not reject Dark wizards, but found it difficult to accept these vampires.
There were also those terrible legends about vampires that made people reluctant to approach them, such as biting people, spreading plagues, sleeping in coffins, turning into zombies, and so forth.
In short, these three young vampires were going to face some difficulties in Slytherin House.
They really should have chosen one of the other three Houses, where they could integrate better into school life rather than be isolated by their peers. But these vampires probably also thought that Slytherin was where they belonged.
After all, in name only, this was the House founded by their great ancestor.
So, whatever they faced now, they had brought upon themselves.
Evan felt that the vampires were probably used to this kind of adversity.
Everything they had encountered and the unfair treatment in the Wizarding World were far more complex and terrifying than anything within the school.
His only hope was that these vampires would not become evil Dark wizards after graduation.
Regardless, it was a change, the third change since the start of this term.
Starting this year, Hogwarts would enroll a few students of vampire origin every year. From the perspective of promoting integration, this could be regarded as a progress in the Wizarding World…
“Why didn’t you tell me about this on the train?” Evan asked, handing the remaining dragon blood to Elaine.
“About what?”
“That you have clan members coming to Hogwarts.”
“Oh, because there wasn’t much to say. I don’t have a good relationship with those three little guys. We don’t have much contact,” said Elaine, showing her two fangs and making a face. “I warned them to stay away from me at school, or I’ll beat them up every time I see them!”
Evan was silent. There was something wrong with the way this child dealt with people.
“Well, they’re still your clan members. If they’re willing to join the D.A., you could invite them,” Evan suggested.
This term, he planned to expand the D.A. as a backup force to resist Voldemort.
Compared to students their age, vampires were considerably stronger, with a natural inclination for aggression and combat. Even though the Slytherin clan had lost the support of the evil god’s power, they were still more powerful than ordinary wizards.
It would be great to absorb them in, and it would also prevent them from becoming corrupted in that House.
“If you want them to join the D.A., I’ll find a chance to talk to them,” Elaine replied. “They’re all terrified of me and dare not disobey my orders.”
Evan looked at Elaine and felt that there was something wrong with her. Could she be the eldest among the vampire children of the Slytherin clan?
While Evan and Elaine were discussing the admission of vampires, Harry did not look at the Slytherin table because Draco Malfoy was miming the shattering of a nose to raucous laughter and applause.Harry’s insides were burning again. What he would not give to fight Malfoy one-on-one …
He turned his head away sharply and looked toward the staff table.
“Snape said Hagrid was late for the feast —” said Harry.
“You’ve seen Snape?” said Ron between frenzied mouthfuls of gateau. “How come?”
“He was picking us both up,” said Harry simply.
“That’s too bad. He didn’t do anything to you, did he?” Hermione frowned. “In fact, Hagrid was only a few minutes late. He was probably taking care of Grawp. “Look, he’s waving at you, Harry.”
At the staff table, Hagrid was waving to Harry enthusiastically with a smile on his face.
Harry also grinned at Hagrid. Hagrid had never quite managed to comport himself with the dignity of Professor McGonagall who was sitting by his side, and who was looking disapprovingly at this enthusiastic greeting.
“Huh, Professor Trelawney is attending the start-of-term feast?” Evan remarked, also glancing toward the staff table. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
On Professor McGonagall’s other side, he spotted Professor Trelawney — an unusual sight.
She looked as odd as ever, glittering with beads and trailing shawls, her eyes magnified to enormous size by her spectacles.
This was surprising, as Professor Trelawney seldom left her tower room.
The students had never seen her at the start-of-term feast before. Although some professors did skip the feast, Trelawney was by far the most consistent in her absence. It was unexpected that she’d willingly come down this year.
“What happened?”
“Maybe her ‘Inner Eye’ told her she should join everyone for dinner,” said Hermione with a hint of sarcasm.
Harry pursed his lips, he did not agree with Hermione’s view. Having always considered her a bit of a fraud, Harry had been shocked to discover at the end of the previous term that it had been she who had made the prediction that caused Lord Voldemort to kill Harry’s parents and attack Harry himself, and his opinion of Professor Trelawney had changed.
To be honest, he now felt that Professor Trelawney was a little scary.
When her great beaconlike eyes swiveled in his direction; Harry hastily looked away…
