Harry Potter and the Secret Treasures-Chapter 1301: The Half-Blood Prince
As expected, Hermione wasn’t about to give up her perspective so easily.
“The fact that the book itself does not contain any magic doesn’t prove anything. It just confirms that it’s a standard Potions textbook. The real issue is those strange notes! I noticed how densely detailed the annotations are throughout the book. Who knows what’s hidden in there?” she said skeptically. “Aside from improvements to potion recipes, there might be something else recorded — like some dangerous, forbidden magic…”
Well, her reasoning was very close to the truth!
Hermione was always like this. Even without evidence, her analytical skills often led her to uncover the heart of the matter.
It was, admittedly, a frightening talent.
If she continued down this train of thought, she’d undoubtedly uncover many illicit things in that book.
Snape’s Potions textbook was valuable, but as mentioned before, it was not a hundred per cent safe.
On the contrary, it was essentially a banned item.
“Just say it — what do you want me to do about it?” Harry asked impatiently, unwilling to endure Hermione’s relentless suspicion any longer.
If she kept analyzing, she might end up claiming the textbook was left behind by Voldemort himself.
“I haven’t thought about it yet, maybe you should return it…”
“Are you crazy?” Harry refused directly. Perhaps he felt that this answer might seem harsh. After all, this was not his book. So, he added, “At least I won’t do this until I have a new Potions textbook; and it’s not dangerous…”
“Hard to say, we need to verify it.” Hermione said stubbornly.
“How?” Harry asked grumpily. “Other than the foolish idea of handing it back to the professor.”
“Well, I think we can let Evan keep the book until we’re sure it’s safe.”
“But, my Potions textbook…”
“You can use Evan’s,” said Hermione. “Don’t look at me like that, Harry. I know you can’t bear to part with it, but you can’t deny its danger. I think you also admit that Evan is much more experienced in this area than us.”
Evan blinked. Hermione was really something. She had truly gone full circle just to push the book into his hands!
Harry was obviously reluctant, but he didn’t know how to refute Hermione’s suggestion.
He now only saw the benefits of the book and not the potential dangers, so naturally he was unwilling to hand it over to Evan.
However, Evan didn’t intend to take the book either, as it was a personal grudge between Snape and Harry.
He didn’t want to come between them as a third party.
As for the textbook, he only needed a copy so that he could go back and study the improvements to the potion formula.
“I have an idea, Harry. If you don’t mind, I will make a copy of this book,” said Evan. “You can continue to keep it. Of course, if Hermione and I find any danger in the records above, we have to hand it over to the professor.”
“No problem!” said Harry, pulling his copy of Advanced Potion-Making out of his bag.
This compromise was much more acceptable to Harry than Hermione’s idea. After all, he hadn’t planned on keeping the book’s contents a secret from them.
Honestly, Harry had originally intended to share the textbook with Evan, Hermione and Ron.
Evan placed Advanced Potion-Making on the nearby windowsill and took out his wand.
“Geminio!” He tapped the old, dirty textbook with his wand.
As soon as he finished speaking, an identical copy of the book materialized next to the original.
“Great, in that case, I want one too,” said Ron. “Can I?”
“I don’t see much difference between making one copy and two, if you think that would be safer,” said Harry.
“That’s fine with me, but you have to understand, Ron, that the Doubling Charm doesn’t really create a physical object. It’s just an illusion made up of magic. This copy will disappear in about three hours unless you continue to input magic into it to maintain it,” said Evan, noticing Ron’s eager expression. “If you really need it, I can create another one.”
“Forget it then!” Ron shook his head in disappointment after hearing what Evan said. “Don’t bother. I don’t have that much magic power. If I want to see it, I’d better borrow it from Harry.”
“Now, is everything all right?” Harry asked Hermione.
“I think you’d better not use it in Potions class until you’ve confirmed that all the annotations on it are safe,” said Hermione.
“Come on, Hermione! Then what’s the point of even having another Potions book?!” Harry retorted in frustration, snatching the book back from the windowsill. “Unless you actually find something dangerous, you can’t stop me from using it.”
Perhaps because he used too much force, the textbook slipped from his hand and landed open on the floor.
Harry bent low to retrieve the book, and as he did so, he saw something scribbled along the bottom of the back cover in the same small, cramped handwriting as the instructions that had won him his bottle of Felix Felicis.
It read: This Book is the Property of the Half-Blood Prince!
So that’s where Snape’s signature had been hiding. No wonder Evan couldn’t find it after searching for it several times before.
Sometimes, things just came down to luck. There was definitely something peculiar between Harry and Snape.
……………………………………………………………………………………
For the rest of the week’s Potions lessons Harry continued to follow the Half-Blood Prince’s instructions wherever they deviated from Libatius Borage’s, with the result that by their fourth lesson Slughorn was raving about Harry’s abilities, saying that he had rarely taught anyone so talented. freewebnøvel_com
Even though Evan had a copy of the book, he refrained from using it in class — Hermione wouldn’t let him.
She was resolutely plowing on with what she called the “official” instructions, hoping to prove that the Prince’s modifications were flawed, but she was becoming increasingly bad-tempered as they yielded poorer results than the Prince’s.
Even so, she did not allow Evan to use these unverified operating methods.
In this matter, Evan decided to follow Hermione’s wishes. Anyway, he didn’t intend to steal Harry’s limelight.
What good was there in being admired and valued by Slughorn?
At the moment, it looked like not much, unless you counted the Slug Club, which had expanded once again.
Like Hermione, Ron was also a little unhappy with Harry. Although Harry had offered to share his book with him in class, Ron had more difficulty deciphering the handwriting than Harry did, and could not keep asking Harry to read aloud or it might look suspicious…
