He Got Engaged to His First Love On the Day I Died-Chapter 102: I Might Be Pregnant
Natalie Morgan, of course, wanted to leave this place.
But what would happen after she left? Theodore Grant could drag her back whenever he wanted.
It would just be a repeat of the same nightmare.
"Can I ask you for a favor?"
She didn’t know if Sean Lane would help her. He might want something in return, and she had nothing to give.
She took off the necklace her mother had left her. "You can have this as a deposit."
Sean Lane’s heart suddenly clenched.
’Dammit.’ Seeing Natalie Morgan like this made something inside him feel... uncomfortable.
"What the hell am I going to do with your stupid necklace?" He was getting agitated and undid a few buttons on his collar. "Just tell me what you want."
"Let Serena Sutton come see me. I need to talk to her about something. Can you do that?"
"That’s it?" He looked at her, confused. He thought being locked up had made her stupid. "Natalie Morgan, isn’t your main goal right now to escape? You want to stay here for the rest of your life? You want to end up a lunatic like Thomas Morgan?"
’No.’
Of course she didn’t.
But she would never reveal her true feelings to the man standing in front of her.
She chose to remain silent.
Sean Lane cursed under his breath and didn’t press her further.
"Fine, I’ll get Serena Sutton for you." He took a deep breath and agreed.
Whatever else could be said about him, at least Sean Lane was a man of his word. That alone made him much better than Theodore Grant.
The moment Serena Sutton stepped into Unity Hospital, her heart twisted with a dull ache.
Natalie Morgan was haggard and gaunt, her thin frame radiating exhaustion.
Just one look at her and Serena’s eyes welled up, betraying her.
’No wonder I haven’t been able to reach Natalie for the past month.’
’She was locked up in here all along.’
"How could Theodore Grant be so cruel? Is he planning to wipe out the entire Morgan family? He’s a complete animal."
Serena Sutton rarely cursed.
It wasn’t that she hadn’t met despicable, shameless people before, but someone like Theodore Grant was a rarity.
"Why? Why would he lock you up in here? Didn’t you already agree? Three million, a clean break, and he would let you go? Why did he change his mind?"
Serena didn’t know what had happened between the two of them.
But even if something had happened, it couldn’t have been bad enough to warrant locking her away in a place like this.
Natalie didn’t want to explain. Saying too much would only get Serena worked up. "Maybe he’d been planning this all along, Claire. He’s always been an unpredictable person."
"I just..." Serena was at a loss for words to curse Theodore Grant, her eyes blurry with tears as she looked at Natalie. "...They haven’t been mistreating you, have they? Have they hit you?"
Natalie shook her head slightly. "No one’s hurt me."
"When Sean Lane told me yesterday that you were locked up here, I thought he was joking..." ’Sean is twisted enough, but he pales in comparison to Theodore.’ "...He said he can get you out."
"I know, but..." Natalie touched her flat stomach. "...Claire, I think I might be pregnant."
Serena was so shocked she was speechless. After a long moment, she found her voice. "...Pre-pregnant? Is it Theodore Grant’s?"
"Yes."
"Are you sure?"
In Serena’s mind, with Natalie living in this environment, a poor appetite was probably just due to the food.
’Pregnant? Don’t scare me like that.’
"Have you checked?" Serena’s fingertips were ice-cold. "This is a big deal. You have to be sure, Nattie."
Natalie shook her head.
She didn’t have the means to check.
Serena seemed to have an idea. She pulled a pregnancy test from her bag and handed it to Natalie. "Here. Go check."
Natalie held the pregnancy test, stunned for a moment.
"Claire, why would you have something like this in your bag?"
"Never mind that. Just hurry up and go test." Serena dodged the question and pushed her toward the restroom. "Go on."
At Serena’s urging, Natalie went to the restroom.
The result was just as she’d expected: two lines.
Seeing the result, Serena was at a loss for what to do.
"Does he know?"
Natalie shook her head dejectedly, but a certain resolve filled her eyes. "He doesn’t know, and I don’t want him to know. He doesn’t deserve to be a father, and he certainly doesn’t deserve to have a child."
The words were satisfying to say.
’But sooner or later, he’ll find out.’
"Do you have a plan?"
Serena knew about Natalie’s health issues. If she terminated this pregnancy, her chances of getting pregnant again in the future would be practically zero.
’What woman doesn’t want to be a mother?’
’So how could a woman about to become a mother not think about her child?’
"Claire, I heard Theodore Grant is about to get engaged to Wanda Lynch."
"Yeah, the news about them is all over the internet. No idea if it’s true or not."
Every time Serena opened her phone, she’d get annoyed and skip past any news about them.
She couldn’t understand why a man who wasn’t even divorced yet would so brazenly plan an engagement with his mistress, making sure the whole city knew about it.
"On TV, they said the engagement party will be on the eighteenth of this month."
Serena didn’t understand why Natalie was still hung up on this. "Who cares about them? That shameless piece of trash."
Natalie didn’t care whether Theodore Grant and Wanda Lynch were getting engaged or not.
She had a plan.
"Claire, I’m going to commit suicide on the eighteenth."
’Su...icide?’
Serena thought she had misheard, her eyes widening in disbelief. "What did you say? Suicide? Are you crazy? I won’t let you. Don’t scare me like this."
Making Theodore Grant let her go for good wasn’t as simple as just escaping from here.
She had to disappear from his world completely.
And there was only one way to disappear: death.
Natalie had considered death, but now that she was pregnant, she couldn’t die.
There was only one option... faking her death.
The eighteenth was his and Wanda Lynch’s engagement party. He would be immersed in his own happiness, so even if he heard news of her death, he wouldn’t have the time or energy to care about the details.
If she could plant a fake news story, make the fiction seem real, and convince him she was truly dead...
...then she would be free.
Natalie briefly explained her idea to Serena.
Serena thought Natalie’s plan was feasible.
But with just the two of them, it would be a difficult path. If they messed up and got exposed, they would face even more twisted revenge from Theodore Grant. Escaping his grasp would then become a distant, impossible dream.
"Claire, you have to go find Felix Finch. Right now, he’s the only one who can help me."
Sean Lane could help her, too.
He might even have more resources than Felix.
But Sean might just turn around and sell her out. Felix wouldn’t.
"Dr. Finch? What if he refuses to help? What if he’s afraid of Theodore Grant..."
"Just tell him about my situation. He should be willing to help."
She knew what kind of person Felix Finch was. He was kind and compassionate. He had always known about her predicament. He would help.
Serena nodded.
"Okay, I’ll go find Dr. Finch as soon as I get back and discuss it with him." Serena squeezed Natalie’s hand. "You take good care of yourself. Even if Felix won’t help us, I’ll find another way."
"Okay."
