He Got Engaged to His First Love On the Day I Died-Chapter 149: You Destroyed My Family
No matter how Theodore Grant had treated her, it was a fact that he had saved her son.
Today, he had accompanied her son to the sports day event, giving the little boy a huge boost in confidence.
She kept all of this in her heart.
Though she felt resentment and hatred toward him, she wanted nothing to do with the affairs of the Grant family or the Grant Group.
Now that he knew about this, it was even more impossible for him to give her a chance to steal those important blueprints.
"I..."
He curled his lip in disdain. "Such a great opportunity. Wouldn’t it be a shame to give it up?"
"If I don’t give it up, will Mr. Grant give me the chance?"
The two of them, each with their own agenda, stared at each other with hostility, probing for weakness.
After a moment, the man chuckled. "And what’s your goal? To get the Bluemount blueprints and help Sean Lane rise to power? Or do you simply want to watch the Grant Group fall, to make up for all the suffering and pain you went through because of me?"
This was what he owed her.
He could pay her back.
He wouldn’t even have the slightest complaint.
But giving the fruits of his life’s work to Sean Lane was out of the question.
Natalie didn’t believe for a second that a man who saw the Grant Group as his life would just sit by and let her bankrupt him.
"It seems Mr. Grant is self-aware about his past actions. If the Grant Group really did fall, then maybe, just maybe, I would actually... bury the hatchet with you."
She said this deliberately to provoke him.
She also knew he would never sacrifice his own power for her so-called forgiveness.
"So you don’t care even if you’re being used by Sean Lane?" he scoffed.
Of course, Natalie knew Sean Lane wanted to use her to achieve his own goals. That was why she hadn’t agreed to it immediately.
Sean Lane and Theodore Grant, fundamentally, were cut from the same cloth—and it wasn’t a good one.
No matter which one she helped, things wouldn’t end well for her.
The best solution was to not take anyone’s side.
’Let them fight to the death. Just as long as they don’t drag me down with them.’
"You don’t need to trouble yourself with these matters, Mr. Grant. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be heading upstairs to rest."
Natalie turned and went upstairs.
The man sat in the empty living room, brought a cigarette to his lips, his expression calm, cold, and heavy with thought.
’Natalie is so calm.’
’That must mean she hasn’t reached an agreement with Sean Lane yet. But she must be considering it carefully. Should I let her have her way?’
...
「Monday.」
Natalie was taking Momo to kindergarten.
The little guy was happy, skipping along.
She held his small hand, walking cheerfully toward the kindergarten gate.
A silver-white van screeched to a halt beside them.
Before Natalie could even react,
several burly men jumped out of the van, covered Momo’s mouth and nose, and bundled him into the vehicle.
Natalie froze for a second, then rushed forward, trying to get her child back.
But the brawny, bear-like men shoved her away, sending her stumbling back several feet.
"Momo..." she scrambled to her feet, screaming at the top of her lungs.
Her eyes were filled with terror and helplessness, overflowing with endless despair.
"Natalie." A dark-colored car pulled up, the window rolled down, revealing Felix Finch’s anxious face. "Quick, get in! We’ll go after them."
"Oh, okay, okay."
Natalie stumbled into Felix Finch’s car.
She pointed at the van not far ahead, her fingertip trembling. "That’s the van! Momo’s in there! Felix, you have to catch up to them!"
"Don’t worry. I’m here. I won’t let anything happen to Momo."
Felix drove at top speed, comforting Natalie while keeping a close eye on the van ahead.
"A kidnapping in broad daylight? Did you make an enemy of someone?" he asked.
Natalie shook her head in a panic.
"No, I have no idea who would try to kidnap him."
Felix slammed on the accelerator and, at a turn, forced the gray van to a stop.
Natalie threw open the car door and ran out.
The van’s door slid open and Momo was thrown out. The vehicle shifted into reverse, preparing to flee.
Natalie hugged Momo tightly and looked at the van.
She wanted to memorize the faces of the kidnappers.
The windows were heavily tinted, but as the van turned, the sunlight reflected through the glass and she saw a face inside.
The person looked like Wanda Lynch.
’But isn’t Wanda Lynch dead?’
That’s what Weller Kendall had told her, and he wouldn’t lie.
’Did I see things?’
"Is Momo okay?" Felix got out of the car and came over, gently ruffling the little boy’s hair. "These people are unbelievably audacious."
"Felix, let’s go back."
"Okay."
On the way back, Natalie held Momo, still shaken, unable to recover from the shock for a long time.
Felix glanced at her. "Could it be one of Theodore Grant’s enemies?"
"No."
No one knew Theodore Grant had a child.
So there was no reason for his enemies to resort to kidnapping.
But she just couldn’t understand why someone would kidnap her son.
’Was that person in the van really Wanda Lynch?’
"Felix, thank you for your help today."
"What’s the need for such formalities between us? I’ve been blaming myself ever since Momo fell into the sea. I’m the one who should be asking for your forgiveness."
Natalie gave a faint smile. "It’s in the past."
Felix drove Natalie back to the Grant Residence.
Just as she got out of the car holding her child, Theodore Grant happened to walk out from inside.
His brow furrowed slightly at the sight of Felix Finch.
Natalie didn’t say a word to him and walked inside, carrying Momo.
A faint, triumphant smile touched Felix’s lips. "Mr. Grant. Not at the office today?"
"Why are you two together?" the man asked, frowning.
"Is it not normal for us to be together?" He chuckled, walking up to Theodore Grant and lightly adjusting his suit. "Just like you and Rose Yeats were back then."
"When was I ever with Rose Yeats?" Theodore demanded. He couldn’t believe Felix was acting even more unhinged than he himself could be. "If you have a problem, come after me. Don’t drag Natalie into this."
"It’s more interesting with more people, isn’t it?" He clicked his tongue, raising an eyebrow at the man. "Don’t you think?"
"I think you’ve really gone mad."
"Me? Mad?"
He admitted he was currently immersed in this revenge, unable to extricate himself.
But in the end, wasn’t it all because of the bitter seeds Theodore Grant had sown?
"Theodore Grant, I just want you to learn that you reap what you sow. Can’t handle it already?" He suddenly grabbed the man’s collar, glaring at him viciously. "You destroyed my family! Why shouldn’t I go mad?"
"Why did Rose Yeats jump to her death while she was pregnant? It was because she was disappointed in you! What did you do before that? Others might not know, but don’t you know yourself?"
It was true that Rose Yeats had visited the Grant Residence many times before she died.
But she was there to see Claire Grant, not him.
He remembered.
The last time, as she was leaving the Grant Residence, she had smiled at him. "Theodore, I’m afraid I’m about to do something to wrong you."
Later, Theodore Grant had mulled over those words again and again before finally understanding. The "wrong" she had spoken of was her final sentence before she jumped: "Theodore Grant, I love you."
It was just because of that one sentence.
That Felix Finch had orchestrated this huge, elaborate scheme against him.
"Felix Finch, if you really don’t know the cause of Rose Yeats’s death back then, go find Claire. She’ll tell you why Rose died."
"Claire Grant is your sister. You two are in cahoots. Do you think I’d believe a word she says? You’re the one who drove Rose to her death, and now you’re looking for a way to escape the guilt. Well, I’m telling you, it’s too late." Felix’s eyes were bloodshot, and even the muscles in his jaw trembled with rage. "My fate will be your fate. Don’t even think about escaping your punishment."
