After descending from the Resentment Washing Platform, Qi Tian burned all the residue spewed out by the Heavenly Dao Engine, along with the clothes he had just taken off, leaving no trace behind. Then, he took out a fresh set of clothes from the Wuhang Ring and put them on. Afterwards, he covered his face again with a thick kerchief before finally exiting the room.
Qi Tian did not return to the room where he had sold his stuff. Having undergone a complete transformation at the Resentment Washing Platform, the impressions of those who had dealt with him earlier had been thoroughly upended. If he went there now, there was a risk that someone might connect him with his previous appearance, rendering his usage of the Resentment Washing Platform pointless.
Upon stepping out of the courtyard, Qi Tian returned to the black market, making his way to the densely populated Direct Market. Having transformed himself, he was less hurried. He strolled in front of each shop in the Direct Market, hoping to find a useful item. His kerchief and cloak did provide some concealment, but could still be ineffective in confrontations with formidable individuals. He needed to find a more advanced, more concealed method.
Given that the black market was a hub for cultivators who operated in the shadows and dealt in shady affairs, such treasures theoretically should exist, but Qi Tian didn’t know if he would be lucky enough to find one.
Ambling aimlessly around in the black market may not be the best approach, but openly looking was even worse, as it would draw too much attention, increase the risk of buying fakes, and might even catch the interest of some calculating individuals.
Just then, a uproar farther ahead caught his attention. Looking up, he saw a cloth sign hanging on the entrance of one shop, with the character “Gambling” written on it.
Bang… Before Qi Tian could get closer, a man was thrown out through the cloth curtain, sprawling on the street outside. A group of thugs dashed out and began kicking and punching the fallen man, who quickly became a bloody, battered mess.
“Enough, please, I beg you. I’ll pay off my gambling debt, just give me some time,” cried the man, shielding his head with his arms.
“Pay off what with what, Mao Libin? Don’t think we don’t know about your situation. Your father may have accumulated some wealth while serving as the bookkeeper at the City Lord’s Mansion, but didn’t you squander it all after his death? You even sold your house and wife, what do you have left?”
“I…No more, please. My father left me a box, saying it’s for emergencies. Here it is,” Mao Libin took out a box about the size of a palm from his bosom.
The box seemed old, but both the material and workmanship were top-notch.
One of the thugs opened it, and a burst of golden light and the rich scent of medicine filled the air. “This is some potent pill.”
“What kind of pill is it?”
“My father told me this is a high-grade pill known as Gold Saint Pill, a third-grade elixir. Any cultivator in the Qi Cultivation Period can advance a level by consuming just one. He received it as a reward from the City Lord for a special task. A single Gold Saint Pill is worth at least 500,000 coins. I only owe your gambling house a little over 80,000 coins. If you take this pill, you would still need to give me back more than 400,000 coins.”
“And just because you say it’s worth 500,000, it is? Does anybody here recognize this Gold Saint Pill? Can anyone help us verify if this is real?” One of the thugs held up the box, gesturing to the cultivators around.
Many black market cultivators ignored the spectacle. Only outsiders like Qi Tian were attracted to the commotion.
The thug pushed the box towards a cultivator. “Brother, could you check this out for us?”
The man hastily declined. The thug then presented the box to Qi Tian, who shook his head immediately. The pill seemed very authentic, but Qi Tian’s experienced eyes could tell this was no real third-grade pill. Moreover, the Heavenly Dao Engine did not react at all to this supposed Gold Saint Pill, which made it clear that it was a low-quality spiritual elixir at best. He was fairly certain someone was trying to pull a fast one. The only question was who the unlucky fellow would be.
The thug tried to pass the box to several other cultivators, but none were willing to touch it. The thugs resumed their savagery on Mao Libin. One even pulled out a stick and savagely hit Mao Libin’s thigh.
“Damn you, lying to us with your claim of a Gold Saint Pill! As you can see, nobody believes you.”
“Ahh…” Mao Libin screamed. He held onto his leg, shouting, “My leg’s broken! Brothers and sisters, I swear I wasn’t lying. It’s a legitimate third-grade spiritual elixir, a Gold Saint Pill!”
Perhaps because Mao Libin’s suffering had become too hard to bear, a cultivator finally stepped forward, saying, “Let me have a look at it.”
The henchman quickly handed over the box, the man took it, looked and sniffed, this… this was really a third-grade elixir.
The henchman eagerly asked, “Brother, is this the Gold Saint Pill?”
“Whether it’s a Gold Saint Pill or not, I don’t know, but I can assure you it’s a third-grade elixir,” he replied.
“Since you’re so sure it’s a third-grade elixir, why don’t you buy it? This bastard just said it was worth 500,000 coins, but we certainly didn’t believe him. You just need to pay off his gambling debt for him, which is only 89,000 coins, and you can take the elixir. We’re not oblivious to the value of a third-grade elixir; we just don’t dare take risks. You seem to know what you’re talking about. If it really is a third-grade elixir, especially the kind that can increase cultivation levels like the Gold Saint Pill, won’t you make a huge profit?”
“I can’t sell it! It’s something my father left me, worth a full 500,000 coins,” Mao Libin cried out.
“If you dare to shout again, I’ll break your legs,” threatened the henchman with the stick, pointing at Mao Libin.
The cultivator holding the elixir hesitated, but in the end, he couldn’t resist the temptation of a bargain and took out 89,000 coins and handed them to the henchman.
The henchman took the coins and gave the others a sign, and they all left.
Mao Libin sat on the ground and wailed for a while, watching the cultivator who bought the Gold Saint Pill walk away like a thief, he quickly stood up, showing no signs of injury.
The henchmen came out of the gambling house and exchanged smiles with Mao Libin; today, they had managed to slaughter a fat sheep without even breaking a sweat.
The group arm in arm, headed out of the black market.
Qi Tian’s curiosity was piqued, so he followed them.
After Mao Libin and the henchmen left the black market, they darted into alleys and laneways, turning left and right until they reached a secluded alley. They then halted, turned around, and said, “Stop hiding, we know you’re there.”
Qi Tian emerged from behind a wall. He hadn’t tried very hard to hide, otherwise, it wouldn’t have been so easy for them to find him.
“Kid, you’ve been following us since the black market. It seems you’re asking for trouble. Boys, get him,” Mao Libin ordered, unsheathing a Spirit Saber and leading the charge towards Qi Tian. They had encountered such situations before, and every time they had rushed forward and killed the daring follower. This time would be no different.
A cold smile formed on Qi Tian’s lips, as these people, including Mao Libin, were all cultivators in the Qi Cultivation Mid-Phase. Compared to himself, their power was not substantial. He charged forward, not even activating his Heavenly Dao Engine, and simply employed his Eight Desolate Demon Tiger Fist, punching left and right. Soon enough, he had taken them all down. For these swindlers, he held nothing back, sending all of them, except for Mao Libin, to meet Yama.
Afterward, Qi Tian walked over to Mao Libin, squatted down, and reached out to touch his face.

Mao Libin didn’t know what Qi Tian intended to do and shivered in fear. However, all he could do at this point was shiver as Qi Tian’s ruthless beatings had terrified him. Moreover, Qi Tian’s punch had shattered several of his bones, leaving him immobile.
Qi Tian’s hand lingered on Mao Libin’s face for a while until he detected something unusual, similar to the sensation of skin peeling. He pulled at the raised skin and quickly tore off a complete human-skin mask from Mao Libin’s face.
Mao Libin’s face changed as soon as the mask was removed. He stared at Qi Tian in shock, unable to understand how Qi Tian had seen through his disguise. His human-skin mask was very sophisticated; so far, no one had ever been able to see through it.
Qi Tian was wearing a mask, or Mao Libin would have seen him smiling. Qi Tian hadn’t seen through Mao Libin’s disguise. However, he had deduced that this must have happened multiple times, and appearing with the same face each time would be impossible without some special methods.
As Qi Tian had predicted, Mao Libin did indeed use a human-skin mask.
Qi Tian waved the human-skin mask in front of Mao Libin’s face and coldly said, “Tell me, what is this? If your answer satisfies me, I might spare you.”
