Hellbound: Rebirth Of The Strongest Slayer.-Chapter 65: Trouble (1)
Chapter 65
Minutes ago, when the small spark of flame suddenly appeared beneath the spot where Poto was standing, he sensed it.
But by the time his mind tried to process how a spark had formed without any trigger, a chill ran through him. His instincts screamed louder than ever.
Danger.
The tree beneath him erupted into a storm of raging flames. Fire devoured every inch of it in an instant.
Poto was caught off guard, but not helpless.
Qi burst outward from his body as he spread it in a sharp, controlled wave, compressing it tightly around himself. This was not something just any cultivator at his level could do. It was a technique drilled into the elites of the scavenger group, taught personally by their lord, a terrifyingly powerful and skilled cultivator.
That mastery saved him.
What could have been fatal became survivable.
If Poto had doubted before, that doubt was gone now.
Something was wrong with the baby.
No. Not just wrong.
The baby was not normal.
His certainty hardened as his gaze fell on the infant’s face. A small smile played on the baby’s lips. Calm. Knowing.
That smile confirmed everything.
How could a baby do all this?
Poto had no answer. The baby would not either. After all, he was just a baby.
A dangerous one.
"I need to get rid of him," Poto thought.
Around that time, Ricu arrived in the outer city.
He was not in the condition Poto expected. Deep wounds marred his body. Healing them would take time. But that was not the real problem.
He was weaker.
"He must have been pushed hard by those two," Poto thought, his gaze shifting to the unconscious Callack and the bound Selene.
Those two were strange.
Just like the baby.
The rest of the incident passed quickly in his mind until the moment Ricu turned his back on the infant.
Poto felt the hair on his arms stand up.
He looked at the baby.
Deadly light gleamed in those eyes.
This was it.
He had to stop the baby now.
If he did not, this child would grow into something far more troublesome than he wanted to believe.
Decision made, Poto moved.
Fast.
So fast his movement would have been a blur to any normal human. He appeared right in front of the baby, hammer already swinging through the air. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
No normal human should have been able to notice the attack.
But the baby did.
He turned his head.
Their eyes met.
Then the hammer smashed down, striking the baby’s head and hurling him off the boulder.
Rayden could not react in time.
His infernal instincts detected the attack despite how subtle it was, but without Ultra Boost activated, there was no way to evade it outright. That did not mean he would take it head on.
That would kill him.
Focusing his intent, he activated one of the Ten Hell Skills.
System Alert. Skill Activated. Hellskin Fortification.
The hammer crashed into Rayden’s head, launching him through the air and straight into a burnt down building.
Debris exploded outward.
Poto stood still, eyes narrowing.
He stared at the wreckage.
And waited.
A single drop of sweat slid down from Poto’s brow.
For a moment, he truly thought something horrible might happen. That something would go wrong. Apart from creating flames out of nothing, who knew what else that devilish baby was hiding.
But when the hammer connected cleanly, he let out a slow breath of relief.
After all, even Ricu could not take an attack like that head on without protection and survive. Even Poto himself would have been heavily wounded, if not on the verge of death.
There was no way in hell the baby survived.
With that thought, he relaxed and finally answered his colleague.
"That kid," Poto said calmly, "he is trouble."
Ricu raised an eyebrow, his expression twisting in confusion.
"Trouble?" he repeated. "A baby?"
He scratched his head, half amused, half disturbed. He had seen it. The crack in Poto’s usually cold expression earlier. The weight behind his words. It all pointed to one impossible thing.
Was Poto actually scared of a baby?
The thought was disturbing.
And strangely funny.
Poto was among the top elites. Far stronger than Ricu himself. Yet here he was, talking about an infant like a looming threat.
Noticing Ricu’s expression, Poto turned to him, his gaze sharp and firm.
"Do not let appearances fool you," he said. "That kid was planning to kill you. And I believe he might have succeeded if I had not stepped in."
That was it.
Ricu burst out laughing.
A loud, mocking laugh echoed through the ruins as he clutched his stomach.
"What next?" Ricu said between laughs. "You going to tell me the baby was holding back? That he could wipe out the rest of the scavengers and even has a decent chance of taking me down in battle?"
He laughed harder, tears spilling from the corners of his eyes.
"Or maybe he has techniques stronger than what the lord gave us?"
The thought itself was a punchline.
Even the baby’s parents had no real skills or techniques. If they did, Ricu would not be standing here alive. And their baby?
It was ridiculous.
Poto looked at him, unchanging, unmoved.
"You know I never joke around," Poto said.
His tone was flat. Serious.
Ricu slowly turned to him, lifting a finger as his laughter faded.
Of course he knew.
That was the exact reason Ricu hated teaming up with Poto. He was stiff. Serious. Lifeless. He never joked.
Which meant he truly believed what he was saying.
That a baby not even a year old was the greatest threat here.
The absurdity made Ricu laugh again, louder than before.
Poto shook his head.
This fool was hopeless.
He turned away, unwilling to argue further, just in time to see the mother rise slightly on her shoulder. Her body shook uncontrollably. She had been crying for minutes now.
It seemed he really had killed the baby.
"Rest in peace," Poto said quietly.
He was confident in his judgment. Still, abnormal or not, the child had been just a baby. He wished him peace, even though he was the one who sent him there.
Then Selene moved.
Slowly, she turned her head until her gaze locked onto Poto’s.
Her eyes did not blink. Tears streamed down her cheeks.
"You do know," she said, her voice trembling with loss and rage, "that he was just a baby. Not even a year old."
