Chapter 83: Cheeky Confession

"Where were you yesterday night?"

"Home."

"What were you doing?"

"Sleeping."

"Any alibis?"

"None."

In Hyerin’s cramped apartment, two older gentlemen dressed in suits were sitting across from Averie and the girls.

"So," one of the detectives, Alex Lee, continued, "it came to our attention that, about three days ago, you looked up Loret Entertainment and its past. Is that not right?"

They observed Averie, hoping for a reaction. But the devilish man simply flashed them a smile.

"You looked into my search history already? That’s not very nice of you, detectives. If anything unrelated to this investigation leaks out, your department will have a lawsuit on its hands. I’d advise you to be very careful."

Alex Lee cleared his throat. "We’ll keep that in mind."

He handed Averie a paper. It contained a list of keywords that Averie had looked up in the last week.

"Would you mind explaining why you were looking into Loret Entertainment?"

"I am sure you know already." He crossed his legs. "There is a conspiracy theory going around that the recent attack on my character was fueled by Loret Entertainment."

He returned the paper without giving it a glance.

"I was trying to find out how much of that was worth my attention."

"In the middle of the night?"

"Perhaps I should have looked up something more risqué?" He gave them a seductive wink. "The stress from my ordeal made me insomniac. You see these dark circles, right? Yesterday was the first time in a while that I slept so soundly."

"I am sorry to hear that." The detective looked at him with a sharp gaze. "And what did you find in your investigation?"

"Nothing worth mentioning. Just gossip."

"I see."

"Incidentally, do you always move this quickly when someone is assaulted?"

Averie leaned back into his chair.

"Some man gets beaten, and you go so far as to pull a celebrity’s search history? This sort of attention would be warranted if a politician were murdered. But Walter Dean is not a politician, is he? And neither was he murdered. It wasn’t even an attempted murder."

Detective Lee leaned forward, his voice a whisper.

"Are you implying something, Mr. Auclair?"

"I am." His voice contained a trace of mischief. "Why are you moving so fast, detective? Isn’t that uncanny?"

"We are always moving fast."

"Right," Averie said sarcastically.

He suspected that the two were bribed by the Weisin Conglomerate.

’Could it be my favorite Ms. Patricia Kim?’

The detectives continued questioning Averie.

"What body spray do you use, Mr. Auclair?"

"I don’t. Celebrities naturally smell of lilacs and roses. We are simply marvelous beings. You can look up my purchase history if you don’t believe me."

"Please refrain from making unnecessary comments."

"That sounds threatening, detective. One would deem this treatment to be unfair."

Detective Lee clicked his tongue. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

They had no conclusive evidence on him, and he wasn’t slipping up either.

They were so close to the man that every single detail of his face was visible to them. Looking at those amber eyes, he was certain he was their man.

But that wasn’t enough to arrest him. There was little footage of him traveling to and from the crime scene. They weren’t even sure what route he had taken.

"It could be one of my fans," Averie suggested with a sigh, taking pleasure in the act. "They are enraged at what happened recently."

He spent the next fifteen minutes telling them about the sorrows of being a celebrity. It was a brilliant effort to mess with them.

Soon, the detectives took their leave, not wanting to listen to Averie’s ramblings.

Sharing tea, the girls finally relaxed, and Averie could resume his online trolling activities.

He had to abandon the account he used to livestream the aptly named ’Jiwon and Min-Ho piss event.’

The news about his possible involvement in the assault was already creating waves in the industry.

Hyerin was not happy with it. She had imagined a pristine and prosperous career when the two began their journey in the industry.

People were starting to notice similarities between Averie and the mysterious attacker of Mr. Dean.

Speculations and conspiracy theories were running rampant.

Internet sleuths were busy posting essays while analyzing every pixel of the camera footage circulating online.

Some were convinced it could be no one else but Averie. Others were sure a celebrity would not risk doing such a thing.

- He is unhinged. We know that already!

- So what? Making a ridiculous comment and beating someone are two different things. He would not risk it.

- Why is this guy always making the news for some ridiculous reason?

- Why does his fanbase even support him?

- Young girls thirsting over a celebrity. What’s new?

Some believed it was the doing of Averie’s messed up fans.

- Someone who believed those videos about Loret Entertainment’s involvement must have done it.

- His fans are seriously messed up, man. They are still sending me messages because I said something about him a week ago, lol.

- They are capable of murder, those weirdos.

Many were extremely critical of Averie and his fans.

The articles did not miss this chance.

’[So-Not-Okay] Averie Quinn Auclair again in the middle of a conspiracy.’

’[Offended-I-Am] Did Averie Quinn Auclair assault a defenseless old man?’

’[ToCancel-Or-NotToCancel] The evil of Averie Quinn Auclair: He choked my father, drowned my kittens, and stole my milk... in my dreams.’

Those who believed that it was Averie’s doing spread the word that Loret definitely had a hand in his scandal.

- I mean, why else would he do such a thing?

- Loret are dirty bastards.

- It was them, I swear! Min-Ho and Jiwon are just pathetic.

- They clearly hated him.

- Hot singles in my area all hate Loret Entertainment!

The conspiracy spread rapidly, but there were plenty who did not believe a word of it.

"This is fun."

Averie smiled weakly.

He had to get back to his script. He did not have much time left until the filming.

’I will have to do this old-fashioned way.’

It was a small role, so he was planning to avoid using his technique to dive further into the character.

’Let’s give them something to mull over.’

He stole a glance at Hyerin. She was busy discussing their schedule for the next week with Min-Ha.

He quietly logged into his official Delfa account and made a post that referred to his previous interview with Sara Lee.

It contained a single line:

’Are you entertained?’

For many, this comment seemed like a cheeky confession from Averie.

- Holy shit, he actually did it...

- What a madman.

- Delete your previous posts, people.

For a while, he received countless calls from his family and friends. Ari was especially livid, sending him messages that contained both worry and hate.

But Averie had already forsaken this Chapter of his life. The rest was in the hands of someone else.

It was time to move on.

It was time to pay attention to The Color Spectrum.
