Hell's Actor-Chapter 82: So Many Questions
Chapter 82: So Many Questions
At 8:12 in the morning, Hyerin received a call.
"This is Detective Alex Lee. Am I speaking with Ms. Hyerin Lim, the manager of Mr. Averie Quinn Auclair?"
"Yes, that’s correct."
Hyerin’s voice was a little higher than usual. She attracted Averie’s attention and pointed at her phone.
’The police,’ her silently moving mouth seemed to relay.
"The pigs?" Averie muttered, trying to read her lips. "Wow, she’s quick to adapt."
He looked proudly at Min-Ha.
"Wonderful, isn’t she? Not a day passes by after my criminal activity, and she is already calling them pigs. She makes me proud, that girl."
"I don’t know what you are drinking, but I would love some of that."
The detective continued, "We wanted to ask Mr. Auclair some questions, and we—"
"Questions about what?" Hyerin interrupted.
"A, uh, investigation that we are conducting."
"What investigation?"
"We can’t say that over the call."
"That’s a shame."
"So, we were wondering if you could visit the police station to, um, sort out some of these—"
"We can’t." She checked her nails haughtily. "Mr. Auclair can’t leave the house because of a recent incident."
"The scandal?"
"Yes. Leaving the house without any security could endanger Mr. Auclair, and it could be bad for your investigation. So, that won’t be happening."
"Holy, she is killing it," Averie whispered, sending flying kisses towards his friend. "She’s learning. She’s adapting. She’s evolving."
"Well, if you could just make some time," the detective continued, "we would really—"
"You can ask questions on the call if you want. Would you like to?"
The detective finally yielded and asked for their address.
"I will visit sometime today."
"We have arrangements, so you’ll have to make it quick."
Once the call was over, Averie started applauding.
"I always knew you had talent in acting."
That was a lie.
"I never doubted you once."
Another lie.
"Come here. I want to give you a lap dance."
A truth, for once.
"Eww, no thanks!"
Hyerin escaped behind Min-Ha, who seemed very willing to accept the lap dance on her behalf.
"Nah, not for you." Averie shooed her away. "Do something to make me proud, and then we will talk."
Hyerin told the two about the details of the call.
"Let’s hope this doesn’t drag on." She sat cross-legged, a script in her hands. "The guest appearance for the drama is very soon."
"What show was it again?" Min-Ha asked.
Her obliviousness was obvious. She had only heard that there would be a guest appearance, but she had not been made aware of the details.
"The Color Spectrum," Hyerin answered.
"Really? You are making a cameo there?" She wore an impressed expression. "That’s good. But I suppose, with your recent fame, it shouldn’t come as a surprise."
"I think it’s pretty surprising."
Hyerin looked at the calendar. One of the dates was marked with a red circle. The filming was scheduled for the next Friday.
"It is a light-hearted drama that is almost like a rom-com. It’s the complete opposite of BSPH." freewёbnoνel.com
"Finally." Averie took the script from her and began making markings on it. "I have been out of work for far too long."
"Only a few weeks," Hyerin retorted.
"What’s the role?" Min-Ha asked.
"The IT guy."
"Sounds boring."
"The first draft was exactly that." He sighed. "I am willing to do any role at this point. I’m bored."
"So, you will do this exactly as it is written, right?"
"Mostly. Thankfully, they improved the script. It’s interesting now; I’m actually liking it."
"You were making the most dissatisfied face when we were discussing the details with them. They had no other choice than to change it for you."
"They did what was best for the show."
"Because you kept going on about wanting to play a crack whore."
Min-Ha spilled the water she was drinking and began coughing.
"That’s art," Averie grumbled. "You won’t understand it."
"I don’t want to understand it."
But Averie genuinely believed it would have made for a fun role.
’Alas, my genius is lost on these plebians.’
"We should talk about—well—what you did."
He looked up from his script.
"What’s there to talk about?"
"What you did and what you didn’t. We need to know what could get you in trouble."
’Should I tell them?’ Averie’s gaze bounced between the two ladies. ’Well, whatever. If they want to get involved in a crime, I have no reason to stop them.’
"What would you do by knowing?" he asked.
Hyerin fidgeted with her hands. "We could, you know, help you."
"Aiding in a criminal activity is a crime."
"I know."
The girls were clearly uncomfortable with it, yet they looked prepared to sink with the captain of the ship.
’Are you saying you will help me regardless?’ Averie was impressed. ’Let’s see how long that lasts.’
"Ask."
"So, you left some evidence behind on purpose, right?"
"Yes, I dropped some things for them to find."
"Why?"
"To tease, taunt, and distract."
"What if they track your phone?"
"I left it at home on purpose."
"You allowed them to see half of your face. Won’t face recognition technology catch you?"
"Security footage is often grainy. It won’t be a perfect match. It is inadmissible in court anyway."
"If you had covered yourself better, they wouldn’t have even suspected you."
"I want them to suspect me." He looked proud. "Hell, I want them to know it was me. They could arrest but not convict me."
"That’s bad publicity," she whispered. "You were seen on multiple cameras. Wouldn’t that be convincing enough?"
"What celebrity would risk doing something like that? A public figure invites attention. It wouldn’t be weird to see someone dressed like me."
For approval, he looked at Min-Ha, who simply nodded.
"They could dye their hair, and contact lenses come in all colors. That’s more believable than saying a celebrity himself did something like this."
"What about fingerprints? Won’t they find at least one?"
"Wore gloves."
"What about your clothes? Why did you not throw your shirt out?"
"I wasn’t wearing branded stuff. You could easily buy that exact shirt online. Photos of me in all black are circulating everywhere. It’s believable that someone could have copied me."
"What about your scent? They have dogs, you know?"
"I used three different scents to throw off the hounds. The crime scene won’t have my natural scent. It was drowning in a mist of chocolate-scented body spray."
"Is that why you asked me to buy three cans of it from that remote shop?"
"Of course." He applauded his genius. "Can’t have camera footage and receipts incriminating us."
"Your priorities are weird," she complained.
"What about your DNA?"
"I doubt they have much. Hair is the only thing they can possibly find."
But it was the one thing that Averie feared the most.
"Walter’s blood and sweat must have contaminated what little DNA there is. The daily traffic there isn’t small either. Celebrities often come and go. Of course, it would be incriminating to find anything related to me there, but they will need a sample to compare it to. I won’t provide anything willingly."
The lack of interesting projects had bored him so much that he was willing to fight even the authorities.
"If they manage to get my DNA without my knowledge, I will just make up some lie. How about this."
He cleared his throat and opened his eyes with an exaggerated expression.
"By golly, my jealous ex must have dropped it, officer!"
"You think they will believe that shoddy excuse?"
"I don’t care whether they believe me or not. As long as I am not sent to the prison, I will lie and scheme as much as I want."
He cleared his throat.
"DNA tests for assault cases aren’t common anyway. Murder, I can understand. But they won’t go that far. Police are often sloppy about collecting evidence."
"And if they aren’t this time?"
"I don’t know." He tapped his chin and raised a brow. "Maybe some handsome man could bribe an officer to make the evidence disappear?"
"What if Weisin tries to put pressure on the police?"
"Oh, they have something else coming their way." He rubbed his hands and laughed wickedly. "Soon, they will have a scandal on their hands. And with what I am planning, they would be wise not to try anything funny."
Hyerin gulped nervously. "You aren’t going to go find people to beat again, right?"
"Of course not." He cupped her chubby cheeks. "This time, they will find me."
