Chapter 11: Runes II

Zorat made yet another hand movement, and a pocket realm manifested, hovering right in front of him.

This was a ’spatial repertoire’ of sorts, a more advanced version of the disguised divine Authority rune he was bestowed in the form of an item box divine skill. His version could now hold whatever he wants.

He snaps his fingers, and it collapses in on itself. Zorat began to manifest multiple portals as he moved through space several times through the room. From the bed to the table. From the table to the door, and from the door to the mirror. But when he was over a minute in on this continual bombardment of rune-level spells, he felt a pressure building in his head, and he soon stopped.

"Guess that’s it for now. How exciting!" Zorat mumbled out of breathe as he sat back down on the bed with a sigh. He had already achieved mastery over spatial manipulation ages ago. That was why, as soon as he came upon the rune of space in this dimension, he gained supreme control over it.

The spatial techniques he had been displaying earlier were at the supreme level, the runic-form/spell-form, and even if someone was able to gain mastery of Zorat’s level in that skill. They still wouldn’t be able to directly interfere with the spatial rune and would still need to depend on copious amounts of mana to cast such a supreme technique, even a single time, while Zorat had been going at it continuously for a full minute, ignoring the limitations of his nonexistent mana pool.

Zorat wasn’t using his mana to activate this skill. What Zorat was actually doing was activating a technique, or more simply, casting a spell by instructing the rune of space. With his status as an ’Authority’, Zorat can freely command the runes he unearths in his immediate perimeter to manifest themselves, without him needing to pay a price for it, in the form of mana.

But this also comes with the cost of having to rely on mental power to hold that command, which leads to mental exhaustion for a body as weak as the one Zorat is currently occupying. With a more powerful form, and conversely, the mind, such unearthing and commands would be almost instantaneous. At least, it was for Zorat when he still had his old body.

This confirms it. These runes are fragments of a divine Authority.

But why ?. Why would an existence so great grant access to such power for free?

Zorat wondered, because that wasn’t just runic spatial magic he had performed. It was way stronger. He was close to the level of Authority in his old body before he could conjure such potent force from a rune. And what’s most important is that the rune carried a part of Authority with it he could sense clearly. An Authority of a certain nature he had only felt from one being.

Are there really no other beings of authority in this dimension that can read these runes?

How can there be a dimensional being, and no beings of Authority?

Something isn’t adding up.

It makes sense for Zorat to assume that there are no other beings of ’Authority’ present in this dimension, maybe that’s why the dimensional existence in charge just leaves such runes lying around.

Because no being below Authority level can attempt what he had just done. Beings below this level of life cannot even see or perceive runes.

They are like programmers who deal with creating and operating frontend code and applications, while Authority beings are those with access to the backend programmes.

For a frontend developer to transition into becoming a backend programmer, like Zorat. It would take extreme levels of talent and luck, and an incredibly long amount of time designing their own software applications/spells, and perfecting them until they somehow transmute through extreme luck or providence, into independent machines/systems themselves, boasting their own frontend and independent backend. That’s what being a being of ’Authority’ means.

They can see, interpret, and easily affect runes around them that they have unearthed, making these runes that should belong solely to the dimension revolve around them too, and answer to them like these runes now possess two parents.

These runes are the building blocks of reality, and each one already has a name and a function. An ’authority’ can tell these runes to carry out their innate functions without having to pay a price in mana that other beings do. And these beings can also use these runes feely in their base and most raw forms. That’s one of the most important perks of being a being of ’Authority’. However, they can’t change the nature of these runes.

On the other hand, a ’Dimensional-Being’ can freely tell all runes in its dimension that already have their names and functions that they should henceforth become something else entirely, and these runes will obey like good kids, changing their nature on command.

This is one of the most important differences between a dimensional being and a being of authority. As well as these beings are eternally immortal in their own dimension, and they can appear anywhere they feel like instantly inside their dimension, controlling time and space freely inside. And even if they are outside their dimension, no matter how far they are, they can still control everything inside and even immediately appear back inside if they wish.

For instance, Zorat is now certain that the person who created these divine skills and is issuing them out freely is a dimensional being. Runes are deeply hidden in the fabric of reality and require skill and time to unearth. There are always differences between the runes of different dimensions because of the dimensional beings in charge as well.

The dimensional being had clearly placed these runes on the surface so that the heroes can get better contact, and thus their skill will become very powerful when activated, even if they can’t see the runes.

The same thing applies to carving a rune directly on the body. For the rune Zorat is about to carve, though. Since it’s a self-designed rune, he just has to unearth the equivalent and let his authority soul handle the rest

Still, Zorat can’t help but wonder. These are no ordinary runes. These runes contain fragments of divine authority. What is the agenda of this powerful being ?. What game have they been playing ?. And can he also play ?

It took Zorat some time to grasp the changes that the dimensional being made to the runes of it’s dimension, but he had already gotten the gist of it. To actively unearth runes naturally in this dimension would take quite some time, even for him.

But that wasn’t his current goals. Doing that will be redundant. Irrelevant even.

His immediate goals are the divine skills that have divine Authority fragments hidden in them; and that can’t be found anywhere else. It has to be given, or in Zorat’s case, copied.

He can’t just attack the heroes and check their belly buttons for the divine runes though. He won’t find anything of he tries, because only those who earned such runes can acquire them. And the only way was his current understanding was through awakening as heroes.

That was at least, until Zorat made an appearance in this dimension that is.

"Oh my. Whoever you are.... You are so fucked. Yes you are.... hehehe."

Zorat’s authority is a peculiar one, and can be very hard to get results from when used actively, but there is one thing his authority was perfect at, and that was bending rules from a give-and-take standpoint.

That’s why Zorat would allow his greed for power to guide him freely, as he acquires all the divine skills the other heroes possess, though he needed to be creative about how he went about it. And as long as he can get his hands on more of these divine skills, he can acquire all their divine Authority fragments.

And if he can successfully gather and merge all the divine authority fragmens,, he could ascend to become a dimensional being himself by merging that divine Authority with his own primordial authority.

"I will consume them all."

"Who cares what the dimensional being is plotting?" Zorat sitting on the bed said as the corners of his lips began to rise. They curled upward as his lips curved higher and higher, revealing his complete teeth and gums in a woeful smile that could cause a lesser being to wet themselves.

"I, Bahrakazeth Opheriathul Mal’Zorat... am itching for a challenge!"

At the utterance his his full name, outside above the kingdom, and beyond, the atmosphere darkened as buckets of red thunder streaked through the sky, sending a ominous shiver down the spine of everyone capable enough to sense the change.

Back the the small house, Zorat decides to undress himself indorder to begin studying and carving the runes of disruption into his body.

But as he loosened his belt and let his trousers down, ready to begin the process of rune inscription, his mouth suddenly fell wide open.

"So big ?"
