Chapter 10: Runes I

After clearing out some misunderstanding with Florielle. She hurried ahead and got Zorat the small knife he requested.

Though she seemed quite curious about what he planned to do with a knife, Zorat sent her off before she had the opportunity to pry any further.

Now alone inside the small room. Zorat stood before the large mirror against the wall. He already had an image in his mind of what his current body looked like, but it was still quite jarring seeing himself in the mirror like that.

Gone were his eight arms that could easily tear apart worlds. He had spent countless millenia as a younger demon, molding himself into the most perfect form that works best with manupulating runes.

It only made sense that having eight arms would allow him to do more with rune manipulation, at least until he became an Authority being.

And he was right. His eight arms contributed a lot to his strength before ascending, but now those beautiful arms were gone.

Gone was also his massive and powerful frame that exuded such immense pressure, they caused entire planes of existences to spontaneously combust with its mere presence. He had fed his immortal form countless treasure and even bathed in the river of time. Now that too was gone.

Zorat now looked like a malnourished five foot seven otaku. He had on a white shirt with a black hoody on top. The go to outfit of a chronic recluse.

His limbs were frail, with barely visible muscles underneath. Muscles that haven’t been activated for any meaningful training in years.

Zorat ran his small hands through his short black hair, revealing his void black eyes that appeared to be the most unique thing on this new body of his.

Caleb, the former occupant of this body, was a considerably handsome guy with a sculpted jawline, and sharp facial features.

Though his eyes were particularly mesmerizing, and matched with Zorat’s allure. He doubted any girl would stand a chance. The Saintess was only the first victim of the future many.

He only released a little bit of his allure and the lady was prepared to switch sides on the spot.

Hehehe.

But this body though...

Zorat took off both the hoody he was wearing and white shirt inside, revealing the naked upper body of a typical recluse who has never seen the insides of a gym in their life.

Nah. This won’t do.

I guess it would change when my stats begin to increase.

I could directly use some of my own runes to upgrade this body...

but I doubt such a weak form will be able to bear the causal backlash.

Not to mention the runes I have observed in this world are ..... a bit altered. So I need to alter mine in correspondence.

As for fixing this weak body and improving my strength....

I believe my authority, once I start applying it, will be able to transform this body and so much more.

Now. I just have to analyse the runic patterns of this world and carefully carve my rune of soul resonance disruption onto this body.

"This should be fun. Hehehe."

Zorat had spent countless millennia designing his runic summoning ritual, and during those years, he also had the foresight to design a potent rune that could disrupt the resonance of his soul.

So that when Lumrheal tries to ping his soul, there will be no response, and he even set in a safety feature that would alert him if Lumrheal is anywhere close.

One might think he was being too careful, but this being, is a dimensional existence, and Zorat had basically just spat in their face.

To inscribe a rune on the body or the soul. Even for a being of ’Authority’, they have to bear the causal burden to their body or soul. Only if the rune emanates from the being’s ’Authority’ itself, would there be no causal burden.

Since the rune he is presently about to draw on his body is meant to affect the soul, he doesn’t have to worry about his soul not being able to bear the causal burden. He has one of the most powerful souls in existence after all.

Zorat gazed down at his belly button, where underneath the skin, in his abyssal gaze, he could see something moving, twisting and turning into multiple shapes. He made some complex hand signs, and immediately, countless complex glyphs began floating before his eyes all around the small room.

This was the divine skill rune of the item box that was bestowed during his awakening just a few minutes ago. And Zorat was currently inspecting and analysing it with his status as a being of ’Authority’.

The process has become quite clear to Zorat now. This power is granted to the heroes in the form of some data in a status, and they obviously don’t know what they wielded.

It is infact inscribed on their bodies upon awakening, and since only beings of ’Authority’ such as himself can see runes at all. They are none the wiser.

They just enjoy the power without knowing where it comes from.

In simple terms, they are playing with a matchstick without lighting it, because they don’t have a striker. And they don’t even know a striker exists in the first place.

"So this is a fragment of divine Authority ?"

Zorat watched the complex dancing runic patterns that had been bestowed to him, and since he is a being of ’Authority’, he could freely decipher, unravel, and command them.

The patterns shifted under his gaze twisting and deviating from its basic form of an item box that only served as a space storage into something more.

Zorat made a hand sign, and the configuration for the item box skill retreated, and in its place was something more complex, before transforming into a shimmering purple vortex on the floor of his small room.

Zorath stepped inside the vortex and it closed behind him, while an identical one opened on the other side of the room and he stepped through.

"So that’s how it is."

And right on cue, a message from the world’s system, sprang to life right in front of him.
