Chapter 191: The Enchanted Bracelet

Damien sighed internally. Of course he’d look like that. Now, how am I supposed to handle this?

Fortunately, the situation resolved itself quickly—at least for the moment.

Elyon simply said, "Do not ask further here," and Caius had no choice but to comply, though it was clear Damien would be bombarded with questions later.

"For now, I understand the situation," Caius said, sitting stiffly on the sofa opposite them.

Elyon, however, made no effort to hide his possessiveness, leaning against Damien and touching him at every opportunity. As Damien recounted the recent events, Elyon clung to his arm, intertwined their fingers, and even let his hand wander dangerously close to Damien’s inner thigh—sometimes stroking, sometimes guiding Damien’s hand to do the same.

It got to the point where Elyon even tried to kiss him, prompting Damien to flick him on the forehead.

Despite Elyon’s clinginess, Damien realized it wasn’t jealousy like when Cedran had been around. No, Elyon was simply enjoying Caius’s embarrassment. Every time Caius blushed and lowered his gaze, Elyon’s smirk grew wider.

When Caius’s face finally turned crimson and froze in place, Damien had to intervene. "Teasing an innocent kid like this—just stop it already," Damien thought with exasperation.

Elyon, apparently deciding he’d had enough fun, turned to Caius and said, "If that’s settled, here. Take this."

"What is it?" Damien asked, taking the object Elyon handed over.

It was a bracelet, woven from grass.

Damien was surprised but grateful. Still, the timing seemed odd. "A gift?" he wondered aloud.

Elyon smirked. "It’s simple. You don’t want to be recognized as yourself, correct? That bracelet has a minor perception-blocking enchantment. Anyone meeting you for the first time will see you as ’just some guy.’ They won’t even think it’s strange."

"That’s... amazing," Damien said, genuinely impressed. It had been a while since he’d encountered something this useful, not since the translation necklace.

"But is it really okay for me to take something so valuable?" he asked.

"Of course. I made it out of boredom when I first started living in this town. I can always make another. This one is yours."

Elves really are incredible, Damien thought.

"Thank you. How long does the magic last?"

"Hmm? I’m not sure. But it should be fine for at least the next hundred years."

Damien blinked in surprise. I only needed it for today, but... that’s overkill.

"As expected of Elyon," Damien muttered.

Elyon nodded. "Oh, but remember, don’t wear it when it’s not necessary. If you make a habit of leaving it on, any relationships you form will effectively be erased. No one will remember you."

Damien sighed. "Got it. I’ll be careful."

Ah, so it works by making sure even people meeting him for the first time wouldn’t recognize him as Damien. If anything happened while he wore it, it would be as though it had never occurred.

...Wait a second. Couldn’t this be used for something incredibly dangerous, like committing crimes?

Damien quickly decided to pretend that thought had never crossed his mind. He resolved to never lose the bracelet, no matter what.

"Thank you so much. I’ll treasure it," Damien said, truly meaning it.

He planned to guard it like a priceless treasure. Storing it away seemed risky, so he decided he would keep it on him at all times.

"Good. Your thanks can wait until the next evening. Farewell!"

Elyon with his face flushed red, stammered out those words before using teleportation magic to leave.

I got it. I’ll make sure to thank you properly next time, Damien thought with a smirk.

After seeing Elyon off, Damien slipped the bracelet onto his arm as instructed.

Is the magic working already? he wondered. There was no way to test it immediately since there wasn’t anyone new in the room. Perhaps he should try it out on someone before heading into the upcoming meeting?

As Damien considered asking Caius to summon a servant, he turned his head to Caius, only to find him staring at Damien as though he were looking at something terrifying.

"You... no, who are you?" Caius finally asked, his voice trembling.

"Oh, come on, you know me, boss. I’m your subordinate!" Damien replied with an awkward laugh.

The truth was that the impressive one was Elyon. Damien was just an ordinary human who happened to be on good terms with him.

Caius, however, didn’t seem convinced. His wary, almost frightened gaze made Damien feel like all the progress they’d made in getting closer had been undone in an instant.

I’ll just have to work hard to rebuild that trust! Damien resolved.

Starting with physical reassurance, he thought, reaching out to take Caius’s trembling hands in his own. But the moment their hands touched, Caius flinched, and Damien winced internally.

Ouch. That stings. He felt like crying.

Damien spent the next while reassuring Caius. "Elyon’s the impressive one; I’m just a normal person," he repeated in various ways, trying to coax Caius out of his defensive shell.

Eventually, Caius seemed to relax, returning to his usual demeanor as Damien’s "boss." Even the hands Damien had kept holding—cool to the touch at first—had grown warm again. That, at least, was a relief.

Deciding to test the bracelet’s effect, Damien asked Caius to summon a different servant.

When the new servant entered the room, they glanced at Damien, seated on the sofa opposite Caius. As expected, their expression didn’t shift; they didn’t seem to notice anything unusual about him. They placed the tea down silently and left without addressing Damien at all.

The bracelet was working perfectly.

Caius, however, seemed puzzled, casting a curious glance at the way Damien still held his hand. Damien decided that drawing attention like this wasn’t the best idea moving forward.

"It seems to work fine. Elven magic tools really are incredible," Damien remarked.

"To think he made it just to pass the time. That’s incredible."

The gap in capability was almost incomprehensible. For the first time, Damien understood why elves were both admired and feared.
