Chapter 219: Yegor’s Legacy and Theo’s Promise

At some point, Sebas had quietly left the archives, leaving Damien and Theo to eat their sandwiches in silence.

But it wasn’t an awkward silence.

In fact, Theo had scooted his chair close to Damien’s, leaning against his shoulder as they ate. The atmosphere felt light, almost dreamlike.

Every now and then, Theo would steal a kiss, turning the air between them into something close to a pink haze.

Actually, Damien thought, the fluffy, pink air might be edging toward awkward after all.

"Um, about Yegor Tretyakov..." Damien began hesitantly.

To calm the lighthearted atmosphere, Damien decided to bring up a work-related topic.

If he didn’t, their afternoon activities might end up taking place in the bedroom instead.

"Do you think there’s a chance Yegor Tretyakov found happiness in this world? Maybe he had a wife or kids here?"

He clung to a glimmer of hope, trying to take a brighter perspective.

As he spoke, Damien thought his own theory wasn’t too far-fetched. If Yegor Tretyakov had a wife and daughter in this world, the references to "wife" and "daughter" in his diary might make sense. Perhaps the diary chronicled his desire to reunite with his parents so they could meet the family he’d built here.

However, Theo froze at Damien’s words and pulled away slightly, a heavy gloom settling around him.

Well, there goes the idea of Yegor Tretyakov having a cheerful ending, Damien thought.

Theo seemed hesitant to speak, clearly debating whether or not to say something. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Oh, great, Damien thought wryly. I really don’t want to hear this.

"There are records indicating that Yegor Tretyakov always seemed lonely," Theo finally said. "He saved this country from danger many times and was regarded as a hero, but he was also treated as someone distant, untouchable. He couldn’t communicate with others, after all."

The language barrier—something so hard to overcome.

If Yegor Tretyakov had made efforts to connect with others, like Theo and Ithnan, perhaps things would’ve been different. But maybe that just wasn’t the kind of person Yegor Tretyakov was.

Damien reflected on how lucky he was to have met Theo shortly after arriving in this world. Without that, he wouldn’t have been able to learn the language or form the bonds he had.

"All records left by Yegor Tretyakov, including the diary we’ve been studying, have been scattered or lost," Theo continued. "Even the location of his grave is unknown. Based on this, it’s believed he had no descendants or close companions."

"I see..." Damien said quietly.

If Yegor Tretyakov had children, or even close friends, some of his belongings would likely have been preserved, and his grave would have left some kind of legacy.

The fact that nothing remained suggested that Yegor Tretyakov truly was alone.

What kind of person had he been?

Damien found himself growing curious, but more than that, he felt a sense of responsibility.

He needed to understand the life Yegor Tretyakov had lived.

As the only other person from their homeland in this world, Damien felt it was his duty.

"One day, I want to visit Yegor Tretyakov’s grave," he said softly.

This was now the second thing Damien wanted to accomplish in this world.

The first?

Of course, it was, To be happy with my lovers.

...

After a few days had passed since deciphering Yegor’s diary, the night came.

Damien sat across from Theo on the bed.

Unlike Theo, who appeared calm and relaxed, Damien was nervously sitting in a formal seiza position, something he hadn’t done in a long time.

"It’s unusual for you to request a change in the schedule, Damien," Theo said casually, his tone lighthearted.

Originally, Damien was supposed to spend the evening with Lucian, but he had insisted on switching with him. While it wasn’t uncommon for their schedules to shift due to various circumstances, this was the first time Damien had asked for a change purely for his own reasons.

"T-Tonight, there’s something I wanted to ask you, Theo..." Damien began, his voice unsteady.

"Ask me something?" Theo replied with a sly grin. "Oh, I get it—you’ve been missing me, haven’t you?"

Though his words were teasing, Theo’s expression carried a sense of genuine pleasure.

In a way, Theo wasn’t wrong, but that wasn’t entirely what Damien had meant.

"N-No! That’s not it—well, maybe a little, but... tonight I wanted to ask you to become mine!" Damien blurted out, his embarrassment driving him to speak with more force than he intended.

Even though they had shared intimacy many times before, Damien still found himself unable to meet Theo’s gaze, his cheeks burning with embarrassment.

"Huh? I’m already yours, Damien," Theo said matter-of-factly, his voice touched with slight confusion.

Damien’s heart fluttered at Theo’s casual affirmation, but that wasn’t quite what he’d been trying to express.

"I-I didn’t mean it like that..." Damien stammered, struggling to put his thoughts into coherent words.

Seeing Damien’s flustered state, Theo tilted his head slightly in curiosity. Suddenly, his expression shifted as understanding dawned on him.

"Oh," Theo said quietly, his cheeks gaining a faint pink tint. Without hesitation, he straightened his posture, kneeling formally and bowing his head deeply with his hands placed neatly in front of him.

"I... I also want to be yours, Damien," Theo said sincerely, his voice steady. "Please take care of me."

"N-No, the honor is mine. Please take care of me as well—ouch!" Damien started to bow, but misjudged the movement and bumped his forehead against Theo’s.

"Ow!" Theo yelped at the same time, both of them jerking back and pressing their hands to their foreheads.

Their eyes met, and despite the pain, they couldn’t help but laugh.

Maybe a little awkwardness suited them perfectly.

Afterward, Theo left to take a shower.

Although it wasn’t unusual for them to jump straight into things—Theo often preferred that—tonight, Theo had insisted on freshening up first. "I’ll go cleanse myself before we continue," Theo had said, his voice low and oddly sensual as he disappeared into the bathroom.
