Help, I'm in Another World and All the Men Are So Hot! [BL]-Chapter 97: Damien’s First Magic Trial
"By my will, this pattern forms, Magic flows takes shape, transform."
"By my will, this pattern forms, Magic flows takes shape, transform."
He echoed Theo’s words.
A magical pattern began to shine before Theo’s palm.
Following suit, Damien expected to see it before his own palm... but nothing happened.
"Damien, that’s not it. It’s ’By my will, this pattern forms, Magic flows, takes shape, transform.’ Just reciting it isn’t enough if you don’t get every word right," Theo corrected.
Oh no, oh no! He thought he had been repeating the spell accurately, but he must have made a mistake somewhere.
Determined to get it right this time, he recited the spell exactly as Theo had said it.
"By my will, this pattern forms, Magic flows, takes shape, transform."
......Still nothing happened.
Theo looked puzzled... or maybe his expression asked what Damien was doing?
"Young Master, I believe it’s because the magic tool might be translating the incantation to Earth languages not our language," Sebas suggested.
Ah, that made sense! The spell sounded quite like the language he used in his previous life for something magical.
Theo nodded in understanding.
"Damien, this time try removing the magic tool, and then mimic me. Once you’ve taken off the tool, I’ll just say the incantation, and if you repeat it, it should work," Theo instructed.
"Okay, I got it," Damien replied.
After nodding, he removed the necklace for Theo to see.
"■■■■■■"
After seeing that, Theo paused before speaking an unfamiliar phrase.
Damien tried his best to repeat it as accurately as possible.
"■■■■■■"
......Still didn’t work.
Maybe he had mispronounced something? He glanced back at Theo, who also looked puzzled.
"■■■■■■"
Theo repeated the incantation, so Damien followed suit.
"■■■■■■"
But still, nothing happened.
"■■"
This time, Theo broke the spell down into shorter segments to help Damien understand.
"■■"
He did his best to mimic Theo’s words.
"■■"
"■■"
"■■"
"■■"
Though he had broken it down, he felt confident he had recited it correctly.
...But it still didn’t activate.
Oh no, he felt like crying.
As he bowed his head to hold back tears, Theo gently tapped him on the shoulder.
Turning around, he saw Theo gesturing for him to put the necklace back on, and he obediently complied.
"...The incantation is correct, but something seems to be off," Theo murmured.
"Why isn’t it working?!" Damien exclaimed in frustration.
...
While trying to console a dejected Damien, Theo, Sebas, and even Leonide gathered for a discussion.
They had been exchanging various opinions for quite a while, but no conclusion seemed to be in sight.
Damien’s magical power remained a mystery.
Right now, the topic was whether it was truly magical power at all, but it seemed they wouldn’t come to any conclusions.
For now, they knew one thing for certain: since he couldn’t produce a magical pattern, he couldn’t use what was considered magic.
He had thought he might be able to contribute something useful...
"It seems we won’t get anywhere by just discussing this among ourselves," Theo said finally.
"Indeed. Sir Damien, I have an old acquaintance who is a weirdo..I mean someone who studies magic. Perhaps we could consult him next time," Sebas suggested.
Damien couldn’t help but notice how Sebas had almost called someone weirdo.
Theo also wore a very displeased expression.
A weirdo who that could elicit such a reaction from Sebas—and frighten Theo—was surely a scary individual. Still, the thought intrigued Damien despite his apprehension.
"Whenever you have time, please make arrangements for me to meet him," Damien said, bowing deeply to Sebas.
He wanted to meet this person who could make even Sebas call them a weirdo, regardless of the magic.
"Understood," Sebas replied.
He really hoped it could happen at a time that worked for them.
"Wait, if it turns out I can’t use magic, does that mean the magic experiments are over?"
Since this outcome seemed unexpected for Theo and the others, he might have disrupted their entire schedule.
"Well, yes. For now, we should hold off on testing your magical aptitude, Damien," Theo said.
It wasn’t something he could control, but Damien felt a pang of guilt.
"We’ll continue once that person has been invited. Sebas, I’ll ask you to ensure we get some time that works for him. Please make sure to be very polite about it," Theo instructed.
"Of course," Sebas affirmed.
"I’m truly sorry for the trouble," Damien added, bowing once more to Sebas.
He felt bad for causing unnecessary hassle.
Well, it was a disappointing outcome, but at least he hadn’t been hurt, so he decided to focus on that.
"Alright, let’s move on to the reaction experiment!"
Theo looked cheerful and excited.
Still, he thought, things couldn’t be that easy, could they?
...
Since there were no more significant movements for now, Damien and Theo sat down at the table set up by Sebas and Leonide.
According to Theo, they would take their time enjoying some tea.
The atmosphere was cozy, but the phrase "reaction experiment" was rather ominous.
He had a feeling they were going to make him "react" to something...
"Well then, let’s begin Damien’s magical reaction experiment," Theo announced after finishing a delicious cheesecake made by Leonide.
What would they make him do...? He felt a wave of anxiety.
"We’ll cast several types of weakly adjusted magic on you to see what effects they have on you... and whether the results are the same as ours," Theo explained.
Ah, so it was like checking resistance values in a game, perhaps?
"I’ll explain beforehand what kind of magical effects to expect and how strong the stimuli will be. If anything feels different from my explanations, please tell me immediately," Theo continued.
Damien nodded as he listened to Theo.
"First, I will cast a fire attack spell on you. Even though it’s an attack spell, it’s a simple effect that just transfers magical power to heat the point of contact, so it shouldn’t have any strange effects," Theo reassured him.
Well, it was definitely more comforting than being told they were going to cast a confusing spell with unknown effects.
