His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 195: Every Drop of Blood Boiling
When he heard Kiana Sutton’s name, Shane’s eyebrows lifted slightly. He pressed down on Joshua Sutton’s hand that was about to send a text.
"Hold on for now."
"Hmm? You don’t want to see my sister?"
"Of course not. I just want to give her a surprise."
"Wow~"
Joshua teased with a drawn-out note. Then, as if realizing something, embarrassment crossed his face. "Shane, actually... my sister is already married."
"I know."
"Then you..."
"If your sister is happy, I wish her well."
"But what if..."
Joshua was about to ask, "But what if my sister isn’t happy?" But he didn’t know if Shane had a girlfriend now, or if he was married, or if he still liked his sister the way he used to. It didn’t feel right to ask.
Shane gave Joshua a deep, unreadable look. "If what?"
Joshua gave an awkward laugh. "N-nothing. Let’s eat."
Even though Joshua said nothing, Shane knew exactly what he wanted to say.
Joshua couldn’t hide his feelings at all—everything showed on his face.
"No matter if it’s who I used to be, or who I am now, nothing matters more than your sister’s happiness."
When he heard that, Joshua cautiously asked, "Shane, do you... do you still feel the same about my sister?"
Shane smiled and took a sip of tea without answering, but the meaning was clear enough.
Joshua chuckled, "I knew you liked my sister—I could tell even when we were young. You were cold to everyone except her. If I wasn’t her brother, you probably wouldn’t even talk to me."
Thinking about their childhood, a gentle light flickered in the depth of Shane’s usually dark eyes.
Then Joshua sighed, "You showed up just in time today. It’s my last day working at The Pavilion. If you’d come any later, we would’ve missed each other."
"If I remember right, you’re supposed to take college entrance exams this year. How did your scores turn out? Any idea which university you want to attend?"
Joshua shook his head. "I missed one subject, so I can’t go to any universities here. I have to go abroad."
"Oh?"
"It’s complicated. I’d rather not talk about it."
His eyes flickered behind the lenses. Shane’s tone was mild: "Which country are you planning to go to?"
"Lavonia."
"That’s good. I know a lot of people over there. Don’t worry— I’ll ask them to look after you."
"Thank you, Shane, but... I adapt easily. Even if no one looks after me, I’ll be fine. What I’m really worried about is my sister—I’m afraid she might get bullied."
"Don’t worry. I won’t let anyone bully your sister."
With those words from Shane, Joshua felt reassured.
In Joshua’s view, Shane and Kiana Sutton have always liked each other. They grew up together and only parted when Shane moved away.
Even though both Shane and Kiana were young then, the love that stirred first is always the purest.
And as for Kiana marrying Ethan Sinclair, it was all because she fell into her mom’s trap.
Ethan Sinclair was never the right guy for Kiana. The only reason she hasn’t divorced him is for their father’s sake.
Joshua trusted Shane completely. Without even trying, Shane could get the whole picture of the Sutton Family from Joshua, which pretty much matched the things he’d found out himself.
Kiana...
Just thinking of her name made the blood in his body boil.
He wondered how she’d look when she saw him again.
...
Kiana was shopping for Joshua at the mall when a sudden chill ran through her body.
Joy Morgan tugged Kiana’s collar up, asking worriedly, "Did you catch a cold?"
Kiana shook her head. She wasn’t sick—just suddenly felt a shiver out of nowhere.
She didn’t give it much thought, still going over what she might have forgotten to buy.
"Joshua loves spicy food. I’d better grab extra chili sauce and snail noodles or something."
Joy was already too tired to walk, "Kiana, Joshua’s going to school, not fleeing from a disaster. How’s he going to carry so much stuff?"
"I’ll take him straight to airport security. Once he arrives in Lavonia, Ethan Sinclair’s people will pick him up."
"Still, don’t overdo it! If he can’t finish these and they expire? At worst, if he wants something, we can ship it to him!"
Kiana thought she had a point and added some winter clothes for Joshua instead.
Before Joshua left, Kiana went home for a visit.
The dining table was packed with all sorts of dishes. Hannah Lowell claimed she’d cooked everything herself, and Kiana and Joshua didn’t expose her lie.
When Gordon Sutton was home, Hannah barely stepped into the kitchen—there’s no way she’d suddenly know how to cook.
Besides, the food on the table and the takeout containers downstairs obviously matched up.
"Joshua, you’re going abroad tomorrow. Mom will miss you, but I hope you make something of yourself. You must study hard—don’t let down your sister and your brother-in-law’s goodwill!"
Everything Hannah said was aimed at currying favor with Ethan Sinclair. Joshua felt annoyed inside, but didn’t want to pick a fight on his way out. He just nodded. "Got it."
Hannah heaved a heavy sigh. "If only your father was here. Then our whole family could sit and have a happy meal together. But now your father’s in prison, your sister’s with the Sinclair Family, you’re leaving the country, and the house will be empty—just me alone."
She even started crying when things turned sad.
At the mention of Gordon Sutton, both Kiana and Joshua’s faces darkened.
Seeing Kiana looking so upset, Joshua quickly picked up a piece of beef brisket and placed it on Hannah’s plate, "Let’s eat first, or the food will get cold."
When Hannah saw Joshua serving her food, she was overjoyed to the point of tears. "Alright, alright. Let’s eat—Kiana, you eat more too."
Hannah served food to both Kiana and Joshua. Joshua also picked some food for Kiana, "Sis, eat a bit more. I believe things will get better for us."
Kiana felt heavy-hearted, but didn’t want Joshua to worry, so she nodded with a smile.
After dinner, Hannah wanted to tell them that she’d found a good new job, but since she hadn’t actually started yet, she held back.
She planned to tell them after she got her first paycheck or once things were settled.
That night, Kiana was supposed to stay at home, but Connor Grant texted her to say his car was already parked downstairs.
Kiana had no choice but to leave.
After watching Kiana get in the car and leave, Joshua and Hannah looked at each other. Hannah sighed, "Looks like Ethan Sinclair can’t live without your sister anymore. Kiana waited for more than three years—finally the clouds are parting and she can see the sky."
"Hmph, I don’t think so!"
"What?"
"Nothing. I’m going to take a shower."
The next morning, Kiana was rushing out as usual when Ethan Sinclair stopped her. "I’ll go with you."
