Chapter 2105: Story 2105: The Mark That Breathes

The symbol on the doorframe should have been just a scratch.

Just another mark in a ruined apartment filled with rot and shadows.

But Elena Voss could feel it.

Even from across the room.

The crooked eye carved into the wood seemed to pull at her attention like a magnet. The candlelight flickered, and for a moment the shadow of the mark stretched across the wall like something alive.

The horde outside the door had quieted.

Only occasional scratching came from the hallway now, as if the zombies were waiting.

Watching.

Listening.

Elena slowly stepped closer to the broken doorway.

Behind her, the creature growled uneasily.

“Don’t,” the deep vibration rumbled from its throat.

This time the word was clearer.

Elena stopped.

Her heart raced.

“You really can talk...” she whispered.

The monster’s glowing eyes shifted toward her. Its massive body remained crouched low, claws digging into the wooden floor.

“Not... talk,” it growled slowly.

“Warn.”

Elena swallowed.

Before she could ask another question, the mark on the doorframe twitched.

At least...

It looked like it did.

She leaned closer.

The crooked eye symbol wasn’t just carved.

It was moving.

Very slightly.

Like a slow heartbeat beneath the wood.

Elena’s stomach twisted.

“It’s breathing...” she murmured.

The creature’s growl deepened immediately.

“Bad... mark.”

Outside the room, a faint moaning sound echoed through the hallway.

More footsteps.

More bodies gathering.

Elena stared at the symbol again.

A thin black liquid began seeping from the carved lines. It slid slowly down the wood like dark tears.

Then something even stranger happened.

The shadow zombies behind her reacted violently.

They shrank back from the doorway, their glowing eyes flickering with fear.

Their silent screams grew wider.

They were terrified of the mark.

“Elena...” the creature warned again.

But curiosity had already taken hold.

She reached out. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Her fingers hovered inches from the symbol.

The crooked eye seemed to widen slightly.

Waiting.

Watching.

The moment her fingertip brushed the carved line—

The entire room exploded with sound.

A piercing shriek tore through Elena’s skull.

Her vision shattered into flashes of darkness.

She saw things that weren’t in the room.

A city burning.

Endless streets filled with the dead.

And towering shapes moving through the fog—creatures far larger than the zombies.

Something ancient.

Something awake.

Then she saw him.

The tall zombie from the hallway.

But he wasn’t standing in the apartment anymore.

He stood on top of a mountain of corpses, staring directly at her.

His voice echoed inside her mind.

“Marked.”

Elena ripped her hand away from the doorframe.

The vision shattered instantly.

She collapsed to her knees, gasping.

The creature rushed to her side, its massive body shielding her from the doorway.

“What... was that?” she whispered weakly.

The monster’s glowing eyes fixed on the symbol again.

“Call,” it growled.

Elena’s chest tightened.

“A call to who?”

The creature didn’t answer.

Because the answer arrived on its own.

Outside the building...

A long, distant howl echoed through the night.

Not human.

Not zombie.

Something deeper.

Something older.

The shadow zombies in the room began to scatter wildly across the walls.

Even the creature’s fur bristled with fear.

Elena slowly turned toward the cracked window.

Far across the dark city skyline...

Something enormous moved between the ruined buildings.

And whatever it was...

It was coming.

Because the mark on Elena’s door wasn’t just a warning.

It was a signal.
