Horrific Shorts: Zombie Edition-Chapter 516 : Story 516: The Silent Forest
The moon hung low in the sky, its silver light casting eerie shadows through the skeletal trees of the forest. ZETU stood in formation, the oppressive silence around them broken only by the distant groans of the undead. The team was on high alert, their every movement deliberate, their breaths barely audible.
"This place is wrong," Sergeant Jenna "Blaze" Hart muttered, gripping the nozzle of her flamethrower. "Feels like the trees are watching us."
"Eyes up," Captain Marcus "Iron Will" Kane commanded. "We've got no intel on this area, and we're blind without Brain's drone."
Ethan "Brain" O'Connor cursed under his breath, fiddling with the control pad for his drones. "Something's jamming the signal. I can't get a clear feed. Whatever's out there, it's smart."
"Great," Officer Derek "Shield" Coleman grumbled, his riot shield raised. "Smart zombies. Just what we need."
Detective Lila "Huntress" Navarro crouched low, inspecting a set of tracks in the damp soil. "They're circling us again. Same pattern as before. They're driving us deeper into the forest."
"Let them try," Riley "Quick Shot" Bennett said from her perch on a fallen tree. Her sniper rifle was trained on the tree line, her finger hovering over the trigger. "I'll drop them before they get close."
A low growl echoed through the forest, followed by the sound of twigs snapping. The team froze, weapons raised, their eyes scanning the shadows.
"They're coming," Kane said, his voice calm but firm.
The first zombie emerged from the darkness, its rotting face illuminated by the moonlight. It was followed by another, and then another, until dozens of them were shambling forward, their glowing eyes locked onto the team.
"Hold your fire," Kane ordered. "Wait for my mark."
The zombies moved closer, their movements unnervingly synchronized. The team held their ground, the tension thick in the air.
"Now!" Kane shouted.
The clearing erupted in chaos as gunfire tore through the night. Quick Shot picked off targets with deadly precision, each shot finding its mark. Blaze unleashed a torrent of fire, the flames cutting a swath through the horde. Shield stood at the front, his riot shield deflecting blows as he swung his baton with brutal efficiency.
But for every zombie they took down, more emerged from the shadows.
"There's too many of them!" Brain yelled, his voice barely audible over the roar of gunfire.
"We need to fall back!" Kane barked. "Huntress, find us a way out!"
Huntress scanned the area, her sharp eyes catching a faint glimmer of light through the trees. "This way!" she shouted, leading the team toward the light.
As they ran, the zombies pursued, their guttural growls growing louder. The team burst into a clearing, only to find themselves face-to-face with a massive, pale figure standing under the full moon. Its eyes glowed with a malevolent light, and it let out a deafening roar that shook the ground.

"New target," Kane said, raising his shotgun. "Take it down!"
