Chapter 629: Chapter 629: This Doesn’t Count as Being Late!

"It’s alright," Kris Cooper chuckled, "Debbie is busy with her studies, and academics come first."

Debbie Chantro is pursuing both cardiothoracic and general surgery, so her studies are indeed demanding. It’s not worth the hassle traveling back and forth just for an engagement party, so Kris Cooper had called her earlier to assure her to focus on her studies and not to worry about coming back.

After all, they had already met in Las Vegas before, and this time is just the engagement party, not an absolute necessity to return for.

"Speaking of which, where are those two guys?" Kris Cooper checked his watch, "Their names really shouldn’t have ’on time’ in them, are they going to be late again?"

He was obviously referring to the Gust brothers, Evan and Barry. All other guests had already arrived, but these two were nowhere to be seen.

"Who said I’m late?" Accompanied by the pleasant voice of a man, Evan Gust strode in from the entrance, "It’s just traffic on the road, there’s still five minutes to spare. This doesn’t count as being late!"

Andre Colin hadn’t seen Larry, so he asked curiously, "Where is Larry?"

Evan Gust shrugged, "She said there are too many guests and she didn’t want to come, to avoid revealing her identity."

"What’s that girl up to?" Kris Cooper asked in confusion.

"She babbled about self-sufficiency and hard work," Evan said helplessly, "I have no idea what she’s up to. You know her temper, I can’t figure it out either."

Just then, Kris Cooper’s phone rang, and it was from Barry Gust.

"Kris, I won’t be coming in to attend your engagement party. Please apologize to Vera for me, and I’ll congratulate you both in person another day. Wishing you two a lifetime of happiness. Don’t be mad at me!"

Kris Cooper glanced towards the distant Kenton Maverick, "Kenton is here as well, and you still won’t come in?"

There was a silence for two seconds on the other end of the phone, then a light laughter.

"I’m hanging up now, and oh, remember to take some pictures and send them to me later."

"Alright," Kris Cooper hung up, "Let’s go inside then!"

"Looks like more guests are arriving."

Andre Colin gazed towards the entrance. Kris Cooper turned to see Nathan Leafcastle and others walking in, and immediately stopped in his tracks, "You guys go ahead inside, I’ll go and greet them."

With that, the three men walked into the hall while Kris Cooper turned around to greet the approaching Nathan Leafcastle and his companions.

"Mr. Cooper, congratulations!"

Sally Dalton offered her hand, and Kris Cooper shook it politely, thanked her, but did not shake hands with Nathan Leafcastle or Liliana Davis as he then led them inside the hall.

"Please feel at home, I’ll go get Vera to come down."

After a brief courteous exchange, Kris Cooper took out his phone and dialed Vera Wave’s number.

"Come down, I’ll be waiting for you by the stairs."

He signaled to Tommy Taylor with a lift of his hand, and the live band softly signaled before the entrance music started to play.

Knowing the main protagonists were about to make an appearance, everyone stopped chatting and turned their faces towards the staircase.

Upstairs, Vera Wave had already noticed Nathan Leafcastle and others coming in. After receiving the call from Kris Cooper, she immediately left the window, left the rest area, and walked through the corridor to the staircase entrance.

By this time, Kris Cooper had already reached the bottom of the stairs and looked up to see her.

The young girl was wearing a gown he had custom-ordered just for her. The dress was a luxurious silver-white with a halterneck design that appeared sweet and delicate, yet not revealing.

The soft fabric outlined her slender figure, with a high-low fishtail skirt elongating her legs, making her appear long-legged even with just mid-heel pumps.
