I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 151: Ravi’s fear
Chapter 151: Ravi’s fear
A strange fear has always accompanied Ravi all his life. He was an orphan who grew up when the fires of World War 2 had already begun to blaze.
Human life had not much worth, and the life of an orphan was even more worthless. By the time he was eighteen, the War was over, the starvation and hunger in his country was starting to fade but he still never forgot that whenever food was shared, his kind was the last to be served.
He became a Sentinel, used all his strength, his life, his morals to reach for the stars but the stars did not reach back to him. At least not the day he reached desperately for it.
He took the Sentinel’s cause on his back, on his shoulders, losing everything but to them, he was an expendable soldier. Powerful but expendable.
Ravi loved a woman, as powerful as time, the first person to caress his cheeks and smile at him so softly but she did not love him the way he did. He was just one of her lovers, pretty but expendable.
Maybe that is why this strange fear has always accompanied him. Why he never tried to talk to any of the people enamored with him in all the world he visited, he was afraid, afraid that he would be expendable to them.
He could not voice these thoughts, it was so embarrassing, so shameful, carrying a sense of wretched defeat. It was not that he was unworthy to be loved, it was just that he was worth too little.
His fear was that he was worth too little, the heavy emotions in his chest, the intensity, the depth of his emotions would never be returned to him in the same measure.
That was why he was so mesmerized, why he had stared at Arlen so shocked it was like time stopped for him. That expression on his face, that terror, that pure fear, was it for him?
It did not feel real. Because of him, this person showed such an expression that life would end if he should disappear.
The Desperation in his eyes chilled Ravi and then lit him aflame. The pain on his neck was so minuscule, that he could kill these two people in less than the second it would take a butterfly wing to flutter.
Yet Arlen was so worried, so afraid.
Ravi felt like someone was fundamentally wrong with him. Otherwise, how else would he be so addicted to such an expression in someone’s place?
Maybe the madness from his next-door neighbors had finally inflected him because he wanted time to stop so he could continue to stare at Arlen. He did not think he could love him even more, he did not think that the force in his heart for this person could burn even larger but yet it did.
His vision was focused. Arlen’s image was becoming clearer and clearer in his eyes, the entirety of this moment was engraved in the bottom of his heart.
Then he felt the tendrils of the shadow wrapped around him and he allowed himself to be pulled away.
They appeared in some kind of basement, there was the smell of damp earth so they should be underground. The woman threw him to the ground, cursing. The two people instantly pulled away the average mask on their faces revealing their true faces. Half of his hair was shaved and in place, and there was a black tattoo of a lion’s head, teeth-baring, he grinned when he faced him, his eyes roaming from the top of his head to his feet as he licked his lips.
"Victor. Not now." The woman said tapping him on the shoulder, she was the one who placed the blade against his throat, "We are in too much trouble as it is."
The shadows next to them shimmered and a man passed through, he looked much younger than they did. A little older than Sage, maybe nineteen or twenty.
He did not rebuke them, just saying calmly, "I would report this incident to the Priestess, she is not going to be pleased."
"No need. I have already sent the video to her." The door opened and a young woman walked in. She had her hair in a tight bun and her blue eyes were shaded by a circular pair of glasses. She did not hide the disdain in her voice, "What were you thinking Victor?"
Victor wanted to bite back but he clenched his sweaty palm, gritting his teeth as he recalled the words of Kadia yesterday, "Why are you facing just me? I didn’t do anything. The police officers noticed us and we received a call from him that we had been identified. I am not sure how they did that."
Ravi stood up, "We have someone with enhanced hearing. She heard the two of you discuss the kidnapped college student, Alexis Russell, and what you were planning."
"Shut the fuck up right now." The man turned to face him, his eyes gleaming with a malicious light.
Ravi raised his hand and paused, Ah! What should he do? If he took care of all these people by himself. It would be insanely suspicious.
Arlen should have already started searching for him. What was that saying again, Absence made the heart grow fonder, maybe...His cheeks turned red. Maybe he should wait for Arlen to find him. It is the better setting to confess his heart, isn’t it not?
He raised his hand down and tried a meeker tone, "Don’t hurt me, okay? I would not get in the way."
"Fuck!" The man Victor rubbed his head, fear in those red eyes, "She is going to kill us. We fucked up. Helena, what should we do?" Swallowing his pride, he faced the disdainful gaze of the young woman.
"Take him to the girl first." The other woman pulled him, using a set of handcuffs to bind his hand. She was strong, much stronger than the average person, and the speed that she had escaped Arlen’s tornado rope and made it for him.
He felt complicated as he looked at her. On one hand, he was thankful that her actions had let him see such emotions in Arlen’s eyes, and on the other hand, for hurting the person he loves, she should suffer before she dies, should she not?
