I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 152: Mind Conversations
Chapter 152: Mind Conversations
The woman pushed him forward into a small room.
"No noise." She said before she slammed the door shut behind her. The room was extremely dark with the window taped shut, Ravi tried to move in when he heard a small sob by the side.
He cleared a space at a corner and sat down cross-legged, closing his eyes as his entire body relaxed. He opened the door in his mind and sure enough, a small presence was there. The presence was much weaker than usual.
"It is quite impressive that you can connect to me even while you are so far away."
The chuckle that came was like the last strength of a dying man before he gave up on life.
"Ravi, how have you been?" The gentle voice echoed in his mind.
"Where are you now?" Ravi asked with a little worry. The mission Alya had given him was to take care of her precious immortal incarnation in exchange she would give him something he really wanted.
If this incarnation should die, Ravi shivered a bit. The Netherworld had like how many, nine layers of hell. Ravi had a feeling that he would visit all of them. She might even turn him into a hungry ghost and send him to the hungry ghost path.
"Who are you so apprehensive about and why are you so happy?"
Knowing that this sneaky cosmic energy from Malik can sense his emotions whether he let him in, the water from the oceans in his mind rose, creating a wall around the two of them.
"Okay. I would respect your privacy." The gentle voice said, there was a little strain in it.
"Are you okay? Where are you now?"
"Ravi, are you concerned for me?" The voice said, "Thank you, that is not an emotion directed at me."
"You have been avoiding my questions. Malik, are you doing something illegal?"
The energy paused, "Of course not. I was on my way and some people jumped in my path, asking me to grant them a favor and I did so. It seems to be constant nowadays, people asking me to grant them kind favors."
Ravi did not have the energy to decode Malik’s cryptic words, "Done with all the favors. Then I have to trouble you to come back. I have been...kidnapped or captured. I am not sure what. And the notion of Sage, Lana, and Asher being alone all night does not sit well with me."
"They would not harm Asher. I give my word."
Ravi rolled his eyes, "I was not talking about that. Two days ago when they came over, Asher stayed up till 11 p.m. Who knows what they would have for dinner, ice cream or some smoothie? They might not even go to the library tomorrow." Ravi’s worries began to pour out.
Sage was too adventurous and Lana was too absent-minded, none of them could be considered a good baby...okay, teen sitter.
"Ravi, listen to yourself. You sound like a nagging parent. They would be fine. I think. A night without your constant hovering would be go for them too."
He gasped, his eyelids rising, "I don’t hover."
"Yes, you don’t hover. So, what made you so happy......a minute." The energy was harshly pulled back and Ravi’s mind was suddenly empty.
He did not hover, did he? He sighed, he wondered what Arlen was doing right now. Was he being too selfish, allowing him to be hurt? That was selfish, right? The thought began to twist in his stomach.
"Ravi?" The voice was even more strained right now.
He returned exactly a minute later, "Malik, can I ask you something?"
"Alright?"
After voicing his concerns, the energy stayed for a while before sighing, "I am the worst person to ask this question Ravi. I don’t think you are doing anything wrong, besides the Sinclairs are more sturdy than you give them benefit for."
"The Sinclairs?" Ravi felt confused.
"Arlen should find you in less than 12 hours. Besides all is fair in love. This way, you can stop moping around. You would be doing all of us a favor in Harlem. Don’t think too much about it. Just relax and wait for him to rescue you."
The thing about Malik was that his voice was automatically set in a kind and gentle tone so even if he insults you, you would find yourself nodding along.
"I don’t mope." He pointed out before he could not help himself from boosting, a very unusual activity for him to do, "You should have seen his face, Malik."
They chatted for more than 30 minutes before Malik had to go. According to him, the next person to grant a favor was far stronger than the average person.
Pulling from his mind, Ravi flicked his wrist and a small candle appeared in the dark room. Across him was a young woman blindfolded, he flicked his wrist and her blindfold disappeared.
The girl blinked several times before her gaze concentrated on him.
"Hello! You must be Alexis Russell."
The girl opened her mouth to speak but it was too dry and she could only let out a hoarse croak.
Ravi sighed, and stood up. He took out a cup of water and pressed the cup to her lips, "Drink some water. I would release your handcuffs but that would be too bothersome. I am from the Davenport Police Bureau, I was also captured but you should not worry so much, everyone outside is trying to find you. There are two search parties already, I think."
The girl looked at him, her eyes soon filling with water. She had been strong but she could not hold it anymore and burst into tears, her loud sobs filling the room.
Ravi did not mind consoling Asher, patting him, and hugging him but other children were not Asher. He stared awkwardly at her for a while before he patted her head.
"There. There. Cry it out. I have more water."
The girl who was crying, froze and gazed through watery eyes at the beautiful man, speechless.
