I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 196: Making congee
Chapter 196: Making congee
Ravi’s lips twitched as he still stood in front of the fridge. Aside from the leftovers from yesterday, the fridge was empty. Empty to him.
There was a carton of milk, some sausages but that is about it. He even had a cupboard filled with the nation’s instant. Instant hotpot, Instant mac and cheese, instant noodles, Instant porridge, instant mashed potatoes, instant oatmeal, instant rice, Instant soup. There were various sauce mixes and even powdered eggs.
He could feel a headache coming on and was not sure how exactly one would create a powdered egg.
Ravi was speechless.
He opened the second cupboard, it was packed full of snacks and beer, his phone rang and he closed the cupboard to pick it up.
"Are you particular with any brand? Should I pick the most expensive?"
Ravi smiled, "The most expensive does not mean it would be the best. I like Drift. For the preserved egg, get the one that was packaged today or yesterday evening."
"Got it."
Ten minutes later, Arlen opened the door carrying two bags of groceries.
"Ravi? Are you sure you want to cook? We can order in?"
Ravi grinned, "I am sturdier than I look. I am fine. Stop worrying." He opened the grocery bag and started going through it.
"This was not on the list." He held the bottle of tiger nut juice and Arlen grinned, taking it from him.
"That one is for me. To replenish." He looked at Ravi suggestively, "I got two for you, seeing that you know...you might need to replenish more than me."
Ravi thought back to how Arlen had squeezed orgasm after orgasm from him until he could barely breathe and his cheeks colored red, "Get out!"
Arlen chuckled as he left the kitchen. It was barely any use though. The apartment was not large and the kitchen faced the living room, Ravi could see the sunlight pouring gold over every inch of Arlen, running against the line of his jaws and the slope of his throat, slipping in soft touches over the defined ridges of his pectorals, the narrow, toned lines of his abdomen and that length of legs in loose black cotton shorts.
He swallowed.
"You know I could give you a show. Get a pole in here or two."
Ravi hated the way the image made his cock instantly hardened and he glared at Arlen who smiled innocently at him.
"Watch TV."
Arlen chuckled. His voice, his voice was just so warm.
He took out one of the tiger nut juices and took a sip. It was quite delicious, he could taste the creamy coconut and the nutty sweet dates in the tiger nut juice. Not too sweet. He quite liked it, Ravi thought as he took another sip.
Making congee was very simple. Before Asher and his neighbors moved in, it was one of Ravi’s favorite meals to make. He made it four to five times in a week, he did not usually go all out for it. Not the way he did now.
He added the washed rice to the pot and then added water before he focused on the shrimp.
He peeled and deveined the shrimp quickly before washing them and patted them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. Then he began mincing them, the light from the knife gleaming due to his speed. freēnovelkiss.com
Arlen began to clap when he was done, Ravi felt helpless but he could not tell him to stop looking at him either.
He mixed the shrimp and the scallion and the ginger together before sprinkling some salt and letting it steep for a while. He checked the congee and started on making the desert.
It was a very simple milk pudding dessert recipe. He added some milk to the pot, added some sugar and starch, and stirred until the milk thickened.
"Arlen."
Arlen jumped up and headed into the kitchen.
"Check the congee." He could not stop stirring the milk mixture. Arlen used a spoon to check and tasted it a bit.
"Ten more minutes. Give or take."
Ravi had thought so too.
"What are you making?" Arlen said as he came close to Ravi, placing a kiss on his shoulder, "It smells delicious."
"Forgive me but after seeing all those instant meals, I am not sure you know what delicious means anymore." He teased lightly.
"Ravi!"
It was that tone again. That tone that he had no defenses against, "Milk pudding." The milk thickened and Ravi scrapped the thick and dense milk slurry into a bowl to let it cool.
"It is very hot." Ravi warned but Arlen still tasted it.
"It is delicious." He then brought the spoon to Ravi’s lips, he opened it, letting the cool delicious slurry slide down his throat.
"Must be nice to have your ability."
"I will try." Arlen quipped back and the two of them chuckled.
The congee was almost done and he added the marinated shrimp into it. He slowly steered while cooking, watching as the shrimp in the pot turned into a beautiful peachy color. He added a little salt and pepper before sprinkling chopped green onions on top of it. With the peach shrimp, the white congee, and the fresh green onions, it was a beautiful picture.
There was a clattering at his back and he turned to face Arlen incredulously. He had already taken out two bowls and was looking at him eagerly.
Ravi raised his fist to block his laughter but he took the bowl and ladle some congee into it before placing a salted duck egg on it.
The rice was crystal clear, and the black-green preserved egg stood out, looking conspicuous.
"I have not had preserved eggs before," Arlen commented as he carried both bowls to the living room.
"Don’t eat it on its own. Mix it into the porridge?" Ravi advised recalling when he had tasted the duck eggs on its own.
It was safe to say that he never repeated that action after that.
Arlen broke part of the egg and scooped it with the shrimp porridge. When he looked up at Ravi, the expression in his eyes was all the reward Ravi wanted.
