I Became An Eldritch Horror-Chapter 22: Mystery, Magic And Mayhem (3)
"Bath, huh."
As I would always say, things are easier with powers. If the gods and other outer beings weren’t chasing me now, I would have automatically cleaned myself and just found out information about the Mirror of Truth by hearing others’ thoughts. Though I doubted I could just poof it into my hand even with my order; it is the first artifact, after all.
If someone could do something like that, I bet the other outer beings would just use it to reach the Void Realm.
"Hey." Hearing the soft voice of the girl, I turned my head. She kind of resembled those mother-fucking angels with her white gown, white hair, and nearly white eyes. Somehow it pissed me off seeing her face.
Too tired to even think about them, I answered, "Yeah."
The girl took a moment, then took a breath from the side of the pedestrian lane beside the main road before continuing. "So where exactly are you coming from, mister handsome? And you didn’t even tell me your name."
Where I was coming from, huh? If I were to say complete nothingness, a cell made for the most criminals—would she believe it?
I chuckled at the thought, which caught the girl’s attention.
"If you don’t feel like sharing, you can just give me an alias and leave the where-you-came-from thing."
I shook my head. "No, it’s best I tell my helper the truth."
I shut my eyes for a brief moment; opening them, I answered, "My name is Adrian, no surname. And I awakened my order two years ago. I’m from a small village in another section, and I walked all the way from there without any money, just so I could come here."
The woman’s eyes widened in shock. "I heard on the news that there was a sighting of a boy walking from city to city, but I thought it was AI."
She placed her hand over her mouth and continued, "Are you here because of the academy?"
My eyes sharpened at the sound of academy. One thing I knew about Uriel was her love for plots, manhwa, manga, anime, and the rest of them.
If she was going to hide such a gem, wouldn’t it be in an academy?
I let out a small, innocent smile. "Yes. I came here for the academy. It has always been my dream to attend it."
The lady looked straight into my eyes as if searching for any hint of lies. But I was an Eldritch Horror who could wipe out this world in an instant. There was no way she could read my emotions or tell whether I was lying or not.
A genuine smile formed on her face as she nodded three times. "If you told me that earlier, we wouldn’t have gone through the whole handsome guy thing."
Both I and the lady crossed the paths of many people as we walked the street, most of whom ran away from my proximity.
"Then, Adrian." The sound of the girl once again brought me back to reality. "Are you planning on becoming a guard or a hero?" 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
I blinked innocently. "What’s the difference? I thought anyone who went to the academy was to save the world."
I held my chest as if the weight of my next words were too much. "That has been my dream, after all. To save the world and be the knight of the goddess."
The lady simply looked away, trying her best to hide her expression from me. "Well, any one of them will give you what you want."
"But what’s the difference?"
Her gaze darted to the floor, then back to the road. "A hero, just as it suggests, is someone who saves others, clears danger zones and all that stuff—though most danger zones are gone and villains are the trend now."
’I was the one who cleared them, after all.’
"Guards, on the other hand, are people who protect high-ranking officials, and they are the ones who usually make up the high-ranking military and the guards of the royal family. But best of all, being a guard gives you the chance of protecting them."
I tilted my head. "Them?"
She nodded. "The five princesses. You should know of it too, right? Of the treaty that all the deities of the world made two thousand years ago that joined half their strength to create vessels strong enough to carry the Mirror of Truth."
I nodded. "Yes, I do."
The girl stopped in front of a white apartment complex. Following the back, we headed for the basement.
As we entered the elevator, she continued her story. "The deities wanted a way to kill the end of the world, the man called Flawless."
My gaze darkened at the sound of my name. ’So trapping wasn’t enough for them.’ Somehow I knew how this story was going to go.
"After trapping the End, they all started the plan to make the vessels. When the vessels grew old enough, one of them would be able to touch the Mirror of Truth, which not even the greatest god can touch, and with it, we shall kill the End who is trapped in the void."
I made a fake gasp. "Doesn’t this make this the most righteous role in the world?"
The girl smiled at me. "Yeah, but since I’m already old, I cannot become the guard of one of the five princesses. But I can give them my best support."
"But, miss, isn’t it better to just teach the girls from home and choose a knight for each of them?"
The white-haired girl shook her head. "No. Since the deities don’t trust each other, they deemed it best that the girls grow in an environment they can’t see inside or even know what is happening, and let Fate decide itself. Besides, only two of the princesses have been found."
My eyes widened at her words. "So the gods don’t know what happens at the academy? How is that even possible?"
I could hide my presence from the gods and other outers using Mysterious World as long as I didn’t do anything crazy. But for a place to exist where an outer can’t see into it?
The girl shrugged. "I don’t know how it works. But my master said they tried to replicate something called the Mysterious World. That’s why it’s like that."
An unknowing smirk formed on my face. The lady glanced at me with a raised brow but didn’t pay too much mind to it.
After a beat, the elevator dinged as we reached the 30th floor.
"Enough with all the talk, it’s time to take a bath. And perhaps we can continue our conversation."
Honestly, I didn’t know what had happened in the years I was trapped, but I wasn’t going to sit back and watch them get the Mirror of Truth and come for my head.
First enter the academy. Then find the five princesses, seduce them, and make them loyal to just me. And when one is chosen as the vessel and takes the mirror, I use them to finish my plan.
Though I had limited time to stay in the academy, I doubted I couldn’t accomplish it.
’You just dug your grave, idiots.’
