I Became My Elf King Character In A Game-Like World-Chapter 23: Face To Face
Chapter 23 - Face To Face
It was true that goblins were one of the most widespread cowardly grotesque with underhanded tactics races across the continent, their numbers reaching into the countless millions. To call them mere rats seemed... unfair.
But at the same time, she couldn't deny it. The way they fled into their tunnels really did resemble rodents running from a predator.
The march through the tunnel was smooth and uneventful.
Despite their expectations, no goblin ambushes came. The Elves advanced unhindered, pushing forward without encountering any real resistance.
After traveling several hundred meters, the army finally emerged into a vast underground world.
Renjiro's breath caught in his throat.
At the very center of this enormous subterranean expanse stood a magnificent underground metropolis—the Goblin Territory.
Even as someone who had lived in Earth's great cities, Renjiro couldn't help but feel a sense of awe.
The sheer scale of the structures before him was breathtaking. Towering buildings, elaborate bridges, and sprawling roads wove together into a masterpiece of underground architecture.
Elaria, standing at his side, smiled knowingly. "Goblins may be greedy and cowardly, but when it comes to underground construction, they are good. Even the Dwarves cannot match them in this field."
Renjiro nodded in agreement. "It seems this is the only thing they can take pride in." There was no denying it. The city before them was proof of the goblins' incredible craftsmanship.
But admiration would not spare them from the coming storm. With a steady pace, Renjiro led the Elven army forward.
Their march was perfectly synchronized, their movements disciplined and precise.
At the very front of the formation stood Renjiro, Elaria, and the three Elven Leaders. Flanking them were dozens of mages and swordmasters, their hands resting on the hilts of their enchanted blades.
Behind them, Huntresses rode atop sleek black panthers, their keen eyes scanning the surroundings.
And at the very back, archers with longbows in hand, their quivers full of deadly arrows, marched in perfect unison.
The Elven army advanced like a tidal wave, their presence an unstoppable force. Their rhythmic footfalls echoed across the underground city.
Upon the towering walls of the Goblin Territory, goblin warriors peered down, their faces turning pale with fear.
Some dropped to the ground, covering their heads and peeking through their fingers, terrified that the Elven sharpshooters would pick them off with a single arrow.
As the Elves advanced to within three hundred meters of the city walls, the army halted.
Renjiro raised his hand, and in response, ten massive ballistae were pushed forward.
"Load the piercing arrows!" The ballista operators complied instantly, locking in place giant enchanted bolts—each one powerful enough to tear through stone walls and armored foes alike.
With everything set, only a single command from Renjiro was needed to begin the siege.

But before he could give the order...
BOOM!
The gates of the Goblin Territory burst open with a deafening crash.
A massive subterranean drake emerged, its scaly body stretching over ten meters long, its golden eyes gleaming with malice. Upon its back sat a lavishly decorated carriage, crafted from rare metals and shimmering gemstones.
Trailing behind it was a vast horde of goblin warriors, marching in tight formation.
The two armies now stood barely a hundred meters apart. Looking at each other so intensely like they could kill them with just their eyes.
....
The tension in the underground cavern was suffocating, a heavy silence hanging over the battlefield.
The only sound was the distant crackle of torches lining the stone walls of the Goblin Territory. Then, with a deep, guttural roar, the subterranean dragon pulling the ornate carriage let out a deafening cry.
A moment later, a grotesquely plump goblin, draped in luxurious robes and adorned with a gaudy golden crown, stepped down from the carriage.
Two female goblins flanked him, carefully supporting his wide frame. His beady yellow eyes scanned the approaching army before locking onto Renjiro, a sneer curling on his lips.
"Elf King," Rukk The Goblin King bellowed, his voice carrying through the cavern, "you'll pay for your arrogance in blood!"
Renjiro met his gaze without flinching. "Cowardly goblins," he said with a smirk. "Do you really think that without my Giant Golems, your army stands a chance against the elves? You've sealed yourselves inside your own Territory. This time, I will wipe your Land off the map!"
Rukk let out a deep, wheezing laugh, his belly shaking with amusement. "Fool! I have five ninth-circle warriors and thirty thousand elite goblin soldiers. Your pitiful army is nothing in comparison. I didn't ambush you in the tunnels because I wanted you all to die right here, together!" He spread his arms theatrically, as if expecting applause.
Renjiro's smirk didn't waver. "Your ambition is commendable, You Filthy Goblin," he said. "But let's see if you can back up that big mouth. Archers—fire!"
At his command, the three thousand elf archers behind him knocked their arrows and drew their bows in one synchronized motion. A heartbeat later, they released.
The sky darkened as thousands of arrows shot upward, then curved in a perfect arc before plummeting down like a deadly rainstorm. The goblins on the front lines barely had time to react before the projectiles tore through the air toward them.
"Shields up!" Rukk roared, his voice cracking with desperation.
The goblins frantically raised their wooden shields, forming a crude defense line. But it was useless.
The arrows, guided by the elves' unmatched marksmanship, easily punched through the flimsy wood, piercing the goblins underneath. Screams filled the cavern as dozens of goblins fell in an instant.
Rukk's green face twisted in fury. "Attack! Kill them all!" he shrieked, his voice raw with rage.
The goblins surged forward, their stubby legs pumping furiously as they charged. Leading the assault were four of Rukk's ninth-circle elders, their bodies glowing with eerie green energy as they pushed ahead, aiming directly for Renjiro.
"Capture the Elf King!" one of them bellowed, their voices filled with confidence.
Renjiro's fingers tightened around the hilt of his dagger, the golden glow of the artifact flickering in his grasp. He watched the approaching goblin warriors with a calm expression, then let out a quiet chuckle.
"Perfect," he murmured. "Let's see how you like being turned into sheep."
