Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Meeting other Awakeners

As it turned out for Lucien, taking any potion wouldn’t increase his strength. He was already at his limit. How to grow stronger, especially how to break through, remained unknown. The system said it would update him when the time came.

Yes, Lucien was very frustrated, but there was nothing he could do except endure it. This system was kind of unreliable... but something good eventually happened.

One of the reasons he hadn’t used the All Must Bow ability was because he didn’t fully understand it. Thankfully, after he accumulated 1000 SP, more information was revealed about the ability.

From this, Lucien realized that if he wanted answers from the system, he needed to reach certain SP thresholds or accomplish specific actions.

Just as the system had said, it was left to him to discover everything in the future.

Now, back to the present.

Five awakeners.

To be honest, Lucien was curious about their stats and what interacting with other awakeners would feel like.

Another thing he wondered was whether he would naturally sense another awakener standing in front of him. After all, he already knew Mai was one, so that wasn’t surprising.

Well, it was time to find out.

"Good. Mikael, take me there. Mai, let’s go," Lucien said as he opened the door and spoke to Mikael.

Hearing this and seeing the leader, Mikael bowed.

"Yes, Leader. This way," Mikael said as he led the way, with Lucien and Mai following behind.

Of course, the council followed as well.

This was too important. It could lead to a major change for the shelter or even its destruction.

In a few moments, the group arrived at the gate.

Mikael signaled to the four soldiers stationed nearby.

They nodded back and informed those in direct control of the gate, and it was opened.

Compared to the lively activity inside the shelter, the outside was filled with deadly silence usually so, but today felt different.

At the front of the gate, the usual quiet was disturbed as five figures stood there. Instantly, Lucien got his answer and he wasn’t the only one. Mai noticed it too.

There was a feeling. Definitely, those five were not "normal" humans. Just standing there gave Lucien and Mai a strange sensation.

Everything pointed to one thing: they were awakeners not to mention what they were carrying.

Each of them wielded either a huge axe or a cutlass.

The weapons were strapped to their bodies, and their clothes were surprisingly modern. They were wearing some of the best-looking outfits anyone had seen since the apocalypse.

They were living well. One of them was even chewing on an apple.

How rare.

Yes, with power, this apocalypse was a massive opportunity for people who wanted to rise. And with five awakeners together, their strength was significant.

Lucien immediately scanned them with the system but was disappointed.

Compared to him and Mai, they were far weaker.

These were the strongest among the five.

They couldn’t really be blamed. They were just normal awakeners, not protagonists or villains.

"So you two are the leaders?" one of the five said as a tall, massive man stepped forward.

He wielded a giant axe as Lucien observed them more closely.

In this five-man team, four were male and one was female. The female was the only one using two short knives. The rest carried either huge axes or long cutlasses.

Aside from that, the huge man was the biggest of them all, standing close to 6’5". The rest were around six feet or shorter.

Their builds weren’t impressive, and their faces were... average.

As for the female, she wasn’t bad-looking, but compared to the beauties Lucien was used to, she was still just average.

"Yes, I am the leader," Lucien stepped forward and replied.

"Not anymore. My name is Limo, and I will be the new leader," the huge man said as he lifted his axe.

A sneer spread across his face as he looked down at Lucien’s shorter frame.

Although they were all awakeners, Limo was the strongest among them.

That was how he had managed to lead this five-man squad. In his mind, Lucien and Mai couldn’t be stronger and even if they were equal, which he doubted, his larger frame gave him the advantage.

Besides, it was five against two. What could they do?

The moment Limo spoke, the remaining four raised their weapons, ready for battle.

If Lucien dared to refuse, a fight would definitely break out today.

Five versus two.

They would win right?

To them, this shelter already belonged to them. What remained was Lucien and Mai. If Lucien refused, he would die.

As for Mai...

Oh, Mai was beautiful. Her curves alone were enough to make anyone lose their mind.

Limo felt his body heat up. In fact, even if Lucien gave in, he would still kill him. This beautiful woman was meant for him alone.

He wasn’t the only one thinking this way. The other three men were also stirred.

Even the female among them felt inferior and jealous. Mai was unbelievably beautiful, far beyond even pre-apocalypse models. Her beauty felt natural, almost overwhelming. After the apocalypse, true beauty stood out even more.

"Hahaha," Lucien laughed, as if he had just heard the funniest joke in the world.

Really?

Were these people brain-dead?

With this kind of thinking, Lucien doubted they could even build a shelter. Maybe that was why they wanted to take his.

What the actual fuck?

They didn’t even consider the possibility that Lucien might be stronger than them. They genuinely believed they were superior.

That could only mean one thing, they had never encountered an elite zombie.

These people weren’t cautious at all.

:Ding! Mission Released :

(Absorb these five awakeners. Improve your shelter’s strength.)

(Reward on completion: 1000 SP)

(Penalty on failure: None)

Suddenly, Lucien heard a mechanical chime in his head as a floating message appeared before him.

The system had released a mission?

Lucien was truly shocked. This system was far more mysterious than he had thought. It had many features, but they only unlocked when he met specific requirements or during special occasions like this.

At first, Lucien wanted to teach them a lesson and see if he could integrate them into the shelter.

But by now, a crowd had already formed.

As it turned out, news about the awakeners had spread quickly. Almost all the shelter residents had gathered at the gate to watch.

Lucien felt pleased.

Wasn’t this perfect?

How could he reject or fail to complete this mission?

1000 SP was no joke. He and Mai had gone at it multiple times a day for an entire week just to earn that much. And now, this single mission offered the same reward.

Not to mention, he was still in debt to the system.

Of course he would take it.

With the crowd watching, an idea formed in his mind.

If he was going to do this... then he would do it once and for all maximizing the effect.
