[Ding! Luan’s affection increased by 10%]
The notification sound echoed several times inside Roxanna’s head, but she didn’t pay much attention to it. Right now, all of her focus was on Luan.
There was still one more thing she wanted to do for him, something that might finally ease the pain in his heart.
[System, can I use that skill now? The Guardian Blessing?] Roxanna asked.
[Yes, Host,] the system replied. [But remember, you can only use it on one person every 24 hours.]
[I understand.]
[Skill Activated: Guardian Blessing.]
[Target: Luan Onyx.]
Roxanna gently touched the back of his neck, while her other hand rested on his arm. A moment later, she felt something flow from her into him.
She didn’t know what it was, but it felt like cool, soothing water, and strangely, it calmed her mind as well.
Both of them let out a soft sigh at the same time. Then suddenly, Luan’s entire weight collapsed onto her, as if he had lost the strength to hold himself up.
Because he was heavier than her, Roxanna lost her balance and fell back onto the bed, with Luan collapsing on top of her. His head rested right beside hers, his whole body covering her like a warm, heavy blanket.
He was heavy, so heavy that Roxanna almost couldn’t breathe under his weight. But instead of pushing him away, a different kind of panic rose inside her.
"L-Luan, are you alright?" she asked anxiously, terrified that the skill had somehow harmed him instead.
She gently turned his face toward her, and finally saw that his eyes were closed, his expression peaceful for the first time that night.
The moment he let out a soft snore, Roxanna let out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding and gave herself a tiny, shaky laugh. "Oh... you’re just sleeping." She patted his head. "Good. Good. You’re fine. Honestly, Luan, you scared me..."
She kept talking to him, but since Luan had already fallen into a deep sleep, he didn’t respond at all. It seemed that the only thing forcing him awake before had been his pain and stress. And now that Roxanna had lifted it, he could finally rest.
She gently pushed him to the side. It took a bit of effort, but she managed to move him off her.
"Look at you," she murmured softly. "Sleeping like a big baby."
She brushed his damp hair back from his face, wiping away the last traces of his tears. Once she was sure he no longer looked like a complete mess, Roxanna snuggled into his arms again. She guided his arm around her waist, and at last, she allowed herself to fall asleep beside him.
She didn’t dream at all that night. It felt like she had fallen into complete darkness. But somehow, it was the most peaceful sleep she’d ever had, and when she finally opened her eyes, she felt lighter, almost like she’d been reborn as a whole new person.
Out of habit, she checked the time on her system panel, and her eyes widened the moment she realized she had been sleeping for twelve hours.
Twelve. Whole. Hours!!
As far as she remembered, she and Luan had gone to sleep around three in the morning, and now... it was already three in the afternoon. If she were still living in her old world, she probably would have fainted again from panic after missing work.
Well... that didn’t matter anymore. She hadn’t worked for two years anyway because of the snowstorm.
Still, twelve hours of sleep was just ridiculous!
But maybe the real reason she slept that long was because the night before had been exhausting. First, she’d been running around looking for Calen, and then... she’d ended up doing some rather tiring things with him in the cave.
And after that, she had stayed awake at night, waiting anxiously for Luan and Cyrus to come home.
So when she thought about it again, twelve hours of sleep didn’t feel excessive at all.
Then, she turned to the side and noticed the space beside her was empty. But when she touched it, the spot was still warm, which meant Luan must have woken up not too long ago.
So why didn’t he wake her up?
[Why would he, Host?] the system said calmly. [It’s not like you had anything urgent to do today.]
The system had a point, but they still needed to plan how to kill the Demon Fenrir. And what about the people in the settlement? Had they heard the truth—of course, fake information—about her yet?
She groaned softly and pushed herself up from the bed. She ran her fingers through her hair and thought that she really needed to buy a comb from the system, but that could wait.
When she opened her bedroom door, she didn’t see anyone in the communal room. The kitchen was empty too, which immediately made Roxanna uneasy.
There was no way her husbands would leave her alone at home. She was sure that at least one of them would have stayed behind to look after her.
So why... was the house completely silent?
Feeling uneasy, Roxanna decided to step outside and look for them, but the moment she opened the door, she froze.
Colorful flowers and handmade decorations were hanging all around the yard. Beastkins of all ages stood there with bright smiles on their faces. Some were shy, some were excited, and some even waved awkwardly when they saw her.
Then together, they shouted, "Welcome to our tribe, new Leader!"
For a moment, Roxanna couldn’t even breathe. She honestly had no idea what was going on.
She looked around and spotted all of her husbands standing among the crowd. Luan, however, still looked sleepy, and he even still had messy bed hair.
In other words, her other husbands must have dragged him straight out of bed and forced him to join... what was this actually?
A welcome party?
