Chapter 32: Volcanic Tortoise VS Red Sparrow

A ball of fire the size of a fist materialized in front of the Fire Sparrow’s beak. It was one of its skills that it has already learned and Erika was able to command it to do it.

This ball of fire was different and small compared to Aaliyah’s [Fireball]. This was because as their grade and rank increased, their Skills would also undergo some changes and some would even evolve to a more powerful one.

At the same moment the ball of fire was forming on the beak of the Fire Sparrow, a bronze-colored ball of shield encased Erika from with-in, protecting herself from harm from the ensuing battle.

At this moment, the Fire Sparrow finally launched the [Fireball] towards the Volcanic Tortoise.

Miguel was not to be outdone either. He observed Erika’s actions carefully as he also erected his own bronze-colored shield.

The color of one’s absolute shield was also an indication to the user’s current Summoner Rank.

Apprentice Rank has a bronze-colored shield, an Elite Rank has silver-colored shield, a Master Rank has a yellow-colored shield while the Grandmaster Rank has an orange-colored shield according to Marcel.

During the Apprentice Rank, a shield can only last up to ten minutes. If it was canceled purposely by the user, they can be summoned again after a few minutes, however, if it was forcefully broken by their opponents, it would take a long time before it could be casted again.

Of course, beings who could break the absolute shield were rare. The higher the rank of the user, the more defensive capability the absolute shield would possess. Only when there was a huge difference in level and grade would one be able to break the absolute shield. They were called the absolute shield for a reason. After all, no insane person would provoke a being who was countless levels higher than them, right?

Miguel commanded the tortoise to execute the skill, [Rock Hard], allowing it to increase its defense to tank the incoming [Fireball] attack of the Red Sparrow. The Volcanic Tortoise’s originally black and red shell turned dull as new layers of rock formed at the top of it. New rocks even formed at the top of its head, making its appearance a little intimidating to look at.

The ball of fire landed on the Volcanic Tortoise’s shell. The moment it did so, it did not do anything as the tortoise merely scoffed at the minimal damage it caused.

Using ’telepathy’ to communicate with the tortoise, Miguel commanded it to execute [Molten Spit], Volcanic Tortoise’s only offensive skill for now.

The Volcanic Tortoise raised its head and opened its beak as a ball of lava slowly formed at the tip of it.

Erika gritted her teeth in nervousness upon seeing that the Red Sparrow’s attack was ineffective.

’Red Sparrow, fly above and dodge the incoming attack. Then dive down for [Wing Dive] right after,’ she commanded internally using her telepathic connection to her contracted beast.

Telepathic connection was something that all grimoire users possessed. Through it, they could communicate with their beast more clearly the more they were familiar with each other.

The Red Sparrow followed her command obediently. It flew up in the air and circled around in irregular motion, waiting for the Volcanic Tortoise to launch its attack.

Miguel observed the Red Sparrow’s actions and was able to guess their simple thought process.

In his mind, he commanded the Volcanic Tortoise to launch it’s the [Molten Spit] towards the flying Red Sparrow.

And as expected, the Red Sparrow managed to dodge it quite easily.

The Volcanic Tortoise’s aim was pretty bad to begin with. Even though Miguel could communicate with it clearly, and he could command it to execute the skills, the Volcanic Tortoise and Miguel had not trained and battled together before after all. Paired with the fact that it was not high level and was not as intelligent as Aaliyah, it was not a wonder why the Volcanic Tortoise’s aim was off the mark.

The lava ball flew in an arc past the Red Sparrow. The Red Sparrow, upon dodging the attack, immediately dived down towards the Volcanic Tortoise, its wings shone sharply as it aimed towards the Volcanic Tortoise shell.

The Volcanic Tortoise was heavy and slow and could not dodge easily. However, the Volcanic Tortoise and Miguel were not worried about the Red Sparrow’s oncoming attack.

Not to mention the fact that [Rock Hard] was still active, Miguel had actually set up a trap when he realized Erika and the Red Sparrow’s intention earlier.

He looked up and saw the diving Red Sparrow.

When it was only a dozen meters above the ground, Miguel immediately commanded the Volcanic Tortoise to use the skill, [Lava Heal].

The Volcanic Tortoise did not know Miguel’s intention. It was confused at the command it received. It was clearly not injured, why would it use [Lava Heal]?

’Just do it,’ Miguel commanded sternly. His gaze still fixated at the fast approaching Red Sparrow.

The Volcanic Tortoise still felt reluctant. However, it could only follow Miguel’s command. It entered a contract with him, so it was only normal for it to follow Miguel’s command.

This was the difference between Innate Beast and normal contracted Beasts. Innate Beasts were eternally loyal and would always follow the summoner’s command without any question. In order to avoid the contracted beast questioning the summoner’s command, one must train with it and increase their familiarity with each other.

In a battle, a slight delay of one’s actions might cause serious consequences.

Fortunately, the Volcanic Tortoise still decided to use [Lava Heal]. Its head retracted inside its shell at quick speed along with its four limbs. The moment it did so, lava suddenly oozed out of the cracks in between the rocks formed on its shells.

As if a volcano that had erupted, lava slowly drizzled down its shell. If the Volcanic Tortoise was injured, these lava would slowly heal it’s injuries. However, since it was not injured, the lava lingered on the shell’s rocky surface, forming a small river of flowing hot lava around it.

The Red Sparrow dove in full speed. Its wings were shining with a sharp light as it collided with the Volcanic Tortoise’s shell.

BOOM!
