I Can Contract Beauties-Chapter 36: Bet Accepted
’Greedy fool!’ Gasper commented internally when he heard that Miguel wanted to make his own proposal as well.
However, when he heard that Miguel actually wanted to bet both the graded dagger and the graded longsword, his mood went up to the roof immediately at this god given opportunity. After all, on their plan, they would only stake something of equal value.
The plan was to win over one of the graded weapons from Miguel through a duel. They were absolutely confident in winning as Gasper had awakened his grimoire and trained with his Innate Beast a few months ahead of Miguel.
Initially, he only wanted the graded longsword. With the longsword, and with the armor, his defense ability would surely go up a notch. However, he did not expect Miguel to actually offer the two graded weapons directly.
’Hahaha! What a fool indeed!’ He was overjoyed as he laughed in glee internally. However, afraid of alerting Miguel, he still looked as if he was troubled on the outside.
After gritting his teeth deliberately to show his hesitation, he finally asked, "What is it?"
Miguel grinned and said, "It’s simple really. I don’t want your graded armor. Instead, I want you to bet that necklace on your neck."
Gasper appeared troubled upon the mention of the necklace. However, he was actually jumping in joy inside his mind. Not to mention the fact that he did not think that he would lose, even if he does, he would only need to pay with the useless necklace?
Wasn’t this a very good deal?
The necklace was completely worthless to him. He only found it by accident when he was young. He just liked the appearance of its pendant hence the reason why he always wore it on his neck.
He laughed internally and held the necklace tightly as if it was something very important to him.
He gritted his teeth as if he was reluctant to accept the deal, "Ok, I agree."
Miguel nodded his head before he added, "And I have another condition."
"What? You greedy bastard. Stop taking a meter after I give you an inch, hmpp!" Gasper bellowed as if he was the one in the losing deal. In truth, he has already decided to accept his condition, no matter what.
Miguel chuckled and continued, "Don’t worry. This won’t be something unfavorable to you."
"This concerns the rules of our battle. Winning simply isn’t exciting enough right? How about we only stop if one of our beasts dies?" He added, an unnoticeable evil grin slowly surfaced on his face as he stared at Gasper intently.
Hearing that, Gasper was obviously stunned. He did not expect that Miguel would actually propose something like this. Was he that arrogant or was he that foolish. Everything was already unfavorable to him, why would he add something like this?
One must note that may it be Innate Beast or normally contracted beasts, they were all connected to the summoner’s mind through the grimoire. If either of them died in a battle, the summoner’s mind would be severely affected. If multiple beasts of a summoner die in a single day, it can even cause the summoner to get into a coma, or worse, die along with their beasts.
"Also, you must know that I don’t have an Innate Beast and I only have 1 contracted beast at this moment. You on the other hand have an Innate Beast, so even if I manage to kill it, it could still be revived without a problem." Miguel added.
He then continued, "However, my contracted beast can’t revive if you kill it. If you manage to kill my beast, wouldn’t that mean that I will become a summoner who doesn’t have a beast? What do you think? This is very favorable for you, right?"
His voice was calm, yet it was akin to a devil’s whisper in Gasper’s ears. It was an offer he could not and would not decline.
’What he said is indeed right.’ Gasper thought.
He had long been dissatisfied with Miguel due to his handsome looks. When he learned that he had awakened, his displeasure towards him intensified even more.
With this opportunity, he can completely cut off his progress as a summoner. It would surely take him a while before he could recover. After all, uncontracted beasts were not cheap in the market. Not to mention, the resources one needed to rank up their beast was also not something cheap as well. Even his mother’s entire savings was slowly getting drained due to their expenditure for his Fire Wolf to rank up to Level 2.
If he killed Miguel’s contracted beasts today, won’t that mean that he would need to spend even more money than him?
Imagine a summoner without a beast? Wasn’t that a complete failure of a summoner? He was already laughing deep inside when he imagined Miguel becoming a summoner without a beast.
As Gasper was thinking in glee, Erika and Marcel could only roll their eyes upon hearing Miguel’s words.
’What a load of bullshit!’ Marcel commented to himself.
Miguel was obviously a lot stronger than Gasper, yet here he was acting as if he was a weakling.
However, Marcel did not stop Miguel’s action even though he already knew of the result even though the battle had not started yet. Even Erika wanted to stop Gasper from fooling around, however, she was stopped by Marcel from doing so.
Marcel wanted to make this an opportunity to teach his nephew a lesson, how could he let his daughter ruin his plans?
To the both of them, there was no suspense to this battle at all. Even the more talented Erika who has awakened two years ahead of them was defeated by Miguel earlier, how much more this Gasper who just awakened a few months ago?
As for Miguel’s request of only wanting the necklace, Marcel and Erika thought that he was just giving Gasper a way out. The both of them looked at Miguel favorably as they retreated dozens of meters away in order not to interfere in the upcoming battle.
"Uncle, can you be the overseer and judge of this match? I’m just afraid that someone might go back on their word when they lose later..." Gasper stated as he distanced himself from Miguel.
His previous arrogant tone of voice returned now that he had already sealed the duel and the bet.
Marcel nodded his head in agreement. Of course, in his mind, the person he thought that would most likely go back on their words was obviously Gasper and not Miguel.
"Ok, at the count of three, both of you may summon your grimoire and summon your beasts and absolute shields accordingly. The first beast to die will lose the battle and will give the winning party the agreed stakes." Marcel announced with a loud voice as Gasper and Miguel stood a dozen meters apart from each other.
Gasper looked at Miguel in contempt as he stated with a contemptuous smile, "I’ll give you a headstart, fool! You can summon your grimoire beforehand."
Hearing that, Miguel could not help but shake his head in amusement. The same words were said to him just a few minutes earlier as well.
"No need!"
"Hmmp! What a fool! You’ll regret it. Don’t blame me later then!"
On the other hand, Erika blushed in embarrassment upon hearing Gasper’s words. She suddenly recalled the battle of complete embarrassment earlier. If there was a hole to hide right now, she would have surely done so already.
At this moment, Marcel has already started to count from three.
As the countdown reached the last number, both Miguel and Gasper took action almost at the same time.
