I Can Contract Beauties-Chapter 37: Instant
In a duel, both parties must begin summoning their grimoire at the same time to avoid any form of exploitation. This way, the battle would become fair, and it would boil down to who can summon their grimoire first.
The first person to summon the grimoire would be at a huge advantage over their adversaries.
When Marcel’s countdown reached ’one’, both Gasper and Miguel immediately summoned their own grimoire.
However, the disparity between the two of them became obvious at the very next moment.
One closed his eyes to chant and summon his Bronze Grade Grimoire, while the other simply waved his hands in the air before a jet-black grimoire appeared in front of him in an instant.
The other still had his eyes closed while the other had already summoned his beast.
The other still had his eyes closed while the beast of the other had already begun to condense an attack.
From this point alone, one would already know who would win this battle.
Even before Gasper could summon his grimoire, Miguel has already ordered the Volcanic Tortoise to execute the skill, [Molten Spit].
A ball of lava slowly condensed at the beak of the tortoise while the oblivious Gasper still had his eyes closed, chanting with focus to summon his grimoire.
If this was a real battle and not a mere duel, Miguel could have already ordered the Volcanic Tortoise to attack the defenseless summoner to kill him and this battle would have ended right there and then. However, he would obviously not kill Gasper. At least, not in front of his cousin and uncle.
It was only when the ball of lava at the tortoise’s beak grew larger than a fist, that Gasper finally opened his eyes with a victorious grin on his face.
He was very focused on summoning the grimoire, and his beast as swift as possible to show his might that he had still not noticed that the Volcanic Tortoise was now only waiting for Miguel’s order to attack.
The bronze grimoire floated in front of him as it automatically flipped to the first page. His movements were swift and fluid as his palm pressed on the page where his Innate Beast, the Fire Wolf was located. It was obvious that Gasper had practiced quite a lot.
The page glowed as Gasper shouted at the top of his lungs, "Summon, Fire Wolf!"
The area in front of him glowed as a Fire Wolf materialized out of thin air. The wolf howled at the top of its lungs, as if resonating with Gasper’s shout earlier.
Gasper did not stop there. Right after he summoned the Fire Wolf, he immediately condensed his absolute shield to protect himself.
At this moment, he finally raised his head to look at Miguel’s stupefied face.
Being able to summon his grimoire in around twenty seconds, Gasper has always prided himself on this speed. After all, even his cousin who was much older than him could only summon her grimoire after a minute of chanting.
The other youngsters who awakened their grimoire in Peach Village would even take more than two minutes just to summon their grimoire. The feat of being able to summon his grimoire in around twenty seconds was regarded as something that only a genius could do by the other villagers.
Even his uncle had praised him for this unbelievable feat.
’It’s your fault for not taking my suggestion seriously,’ he thought to himself as he looked towards Miguel.
However, what greeted him was not Miguel’s stupefied face.
Swoosh!
Instead, it was a red ball of lava that was thrown towards him at extreme speed.
BOOM!
An intense explosion ensued as the area in front of Gasper turned into smoke. His brain froze, not understanding what had just happened.
When he was just about to recover from his shock and order his Fire Wolf to dodge, another swooshing sound was suddenly heard as the smoke made way for yet another ball of lava.
Gasper raised his hands in instinct, the previous explosion was an indication of this lava ball’s lethality, the thought of it hitting him made him fear for his life.
However, encased within the absolute shield, Gasper only heard another explosion as smoke billowed in front of him. His face was pale in fright. At this moment, he was still confused and bewildered at what exactly was going on.
If it was not for the absolute shield covering him from the explosion, there was no doubt that he would surely be swept by it as well.
Everything happened in an instant that his mind was still not able to process the next course of events.
Due to the smoke, Gasper could no longer see his Innate Beast Fire Wolf. However, deep inside, he knew that it was struggling on its last breath.
Just as he was about to unsummon it to save its dear life, he was interrupted once again by a swooshing sound.
This time, Gasper already knew what was going to happen next.
"NO! NO! NOOO!"
Only his desperate scream remained as the third explosion resounded in everyone’s ears.
BOOM!
As the explosion ensued, Gasper suddenly staggered back and dropped to his butt as his mind jolted in pain as if it was struck by a roaring thunder. His absolute shield also dissipated as the smoke slowly settled down, his Innate Beast, Fire Wolf was no longer in sight.
Gasper clutched his head, both in confusion and from the pain that he felt.
"M-m-my F-Fire W-wolf i-i-is d-d-dead?!" Gasper’s stuttering voice escaped his mouth.
He still could not believe what had happened. To be more precise, he still did not know what exactly happened.
Footsteps suddenly rang in his ears. Gasper looked up and saw Miguel walking towards him with steady, yet heavy steps along with the Volcanic Tortoise besides him.
Even though he still did not believe that it was Miguel who caused his current situation, his subsconscious still warned him to get away from Miguel. He felt an unknown fear inside him as he looked at the approaching Miguel.
As Miguel came closer and closer, the unknown fear in Gasper’s heart began to intensify. He was frozen in place and could not move due to the trepidation.
Miguel arrived in front of him and leaned down, his hands reaching towards his neck.
Bids of sweat trickled down Gasper’s face, he felt suffocating pressure as Miguel’s hand came reaching towards his throat.
When he thought that Miguel would want to strangle him by the throat, he suddenly felt that it was not the case.
Instead, Miguel forcefully pulled his necklace and retreated with a devilish grin.
"You lose! This necklace is mine now."
He turned around, unsummoned the grimoire and the Volcanic Tortoise and left behind a dumbfounded Gasper.
Miguel bid farewell to Erika and Marcel, as he made his way home to the servant quarters. In his mind, studying the book given by Erika was still more exciting than what Gasper had shown.
Leaving behind a silent crowd, Miguel summoned his grimoire and looked at the experience points he gained from the battle as he walked home.
