'I Do' For Revenge-Chapter 92: Sweet Surprises
~LAYLA~
"How did this happen so fast?" I asked, running my fingers through my hair.
Axel wrapped me in a hug, his arms helping to calm my trembling hands as I held his phone tightly. The headlines filled with Cassandra’s lies felt overwhelming.
"I knew she’d pull something like this," he said, holding me. "That’s why I planned ahead."
I pulled back, searching his face. "Planned what?"
He smirked, that dangerous glint in his eyes that I’d come to recognize, and crave. "You’ll see. Get ready, we’re leaving. If they’ve pressed charges, police won’t be far behind. We need to make our move first."
"Where are we going?"
"To turn the tables. Now go. Get dressed properly and meet me downstairs in fifteen minutes."
I nodded, heading to my room, my mind racing.
As I showered, the memory of last night flooded back: Axel’s lips on my neck, his hands unclasping my bra, the heat of him pressed against me. The way he’d stopped us before we crossed the final line.
My cheeks burned as the water cascaded over me, doing little to cool the fire he’d sparked. We’d crossed so many boundaries already. What did that mean for us now?
I pushed the thoughts aside and focused on getting ready. Twenty minutes later, dressed in dark jeans and a blazer, I met Axel downstairs. His eyes scanned me, lingering for a moment that made my pulse quicken.
"Ready?" he asked.
"Ready."
We sped off in his car, the city blurring past as he drove with purpose. "Where exactly are we going?"
"To get our evidence. The security car that was following you yesterday has a dashcam. Everything that happened was recorded."
Hope surged in my chest. "And you think it caught Cassandra ramming me?"
"I know it did. I already checked with the team this morning while you were still asleep."
We pulled into a private garage where several of our security vehicles were parked. Axel led me to the SUV that had been following me the previous day. He opened the driver’s door and pulled out the dashcam.
"Let’s see what we’ve got," he said, heading back to his car.
We sat in his car, and he plugged the dashcam into his laptop. My heart pounded as the footage began to play.
There I was, driving in my lane, just when the traffic picked up. Then Cassandra’s crimson sedan appeared, surging from the side.
The angle was perfect; you could clearly see her car accelerating deliberately, swerving into my lane, and slamming into mine. Once. Twice. The impact, and the spin. Everything.
"Perfect," Axel said in a satisfied voice. "This is exactly what we need."
He transferred the footage to a flash drive, making several copies. "Timestamp is clear. Location data is embedded. This proves everything."
"So what now?"
"Now we go to the police station and file our own charges before they come for you."
The drive to the station felt both too long and too short. Tension coiled in my stomach as we parked and walked inside together, Axel’s hand on the small of my back in a steadying, possessive way.
An officer approached us immediately. "Mrs O’Brien? We were just about to send someone to your residence. We have a warrant for your arrest, vehicular assault resulting in fetal death."
I raised my hand, keeping my voice steady. "I think this changes that."
Axel handed over the flash drive. "Everything you need is on here. Timestamp, location data, clear footage showing Mrs. Hart deliberately ramming my wife’s vehicle. Twice."
The officer took it, leading us to a viewing room. We watched as he loaded the footage, his expression growing more serious with each passing second.
"This clearly shows Mrs. Hart as the aggressor," he said finally.
"Which means her report is fraudulent," Axel said. "And my wife has been falsely accused."
Just then, raised voices echoed from the station’s entrance. I turned to see Cassandra storming in, Daniel at her side and Charles right behind them. She looked pale but determined, playing the grieving mother perfectly.
"Have you arrested her?" Cassandra demanded, pointing at me. "She killed my baby! I want her in handcuffs now!"
The officer stood with a neutral expression. "Mrs. Hart, we’ve just reviewed dashcam footage from the incident. Your report appears to be invalid. The evidence clearly shows you deliberately rammed Mrs. O’Brien’s vehicle."
Cassandra’s face went white, then red. "That’s impossible! She’s lying! She must have doctored the footage!"
"The footage has verified timestamps and location data," the officer said calmly. "It’s authentic."
I stepped forward. "I’m pressing charges, officer. Attempted assault, defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and damages to my vehicle and business reputation."
"You can’t do this!" Cassandra shrieked. "I lost my baby!"
"A baby you used as a weapon," I shot back. "You deliberately caused that accident, and you’re trying to blame me for the consequences of your own actions."
Charle’s face was dark with anger. "Stop this, Layla. Your sister is grieving. Have some compassion."
"Compassion?" I turned to face him. "Did you tell her to stop when she was framing me for contaminating beauty products? When she tried to hack in our system? When she threw a brick through my window? When she deliberately crashed into my car?"
"Those are all lies!"
"No, Charles. The lies are what Cassandra has been feeding to the press." I turned back to the officer. "I’m ready to go to court. Here’s my evidence. I want her arrested."
"I can’t be arrested!" Cassandra protested. "I just lost my baby! I need to be recovering in the hospital!"
"You checked yourself out this morning," the officer said, looking at his notes. "According to hospital records." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
"Because I needed to make sure justice was served!"
"Justice is being served," Axel said coldly. "Just not the way you planned."
Two officers moved toward Cassandra with handcuffs. "Mrs. Hart, you’re under arrest for assault and filing a false police report."
"No! You can’t do this! Dad, do something!"
Charles lunged toward me, his face twisted with rage. "This is your fault! You’ve destroyed my family!"
Axel moved faster, grabbing Charles’s arm and shoving him back. "Don’t even think about it," he growled. "Touch her and I’ll have you arrested too."
"You’ll regret this!" Charles shouted as officers restrained him. "The Watsons don’t lose! We’ll destroy you both!"
"You already tried," I said boldly. "And you failed."
Cassandra was still screaming as they led her away, her protests echoing through the station. Daniel stood frozen, looking lost and helpless.
When the commotion finally settled, Axel turned to me, his eyes softening. "You okay?"
I nodded, feeling lighter than I had in days. "Yeah. I’m okay."
"Good." He took my hand. "Let’s go. I’ve got a surprise for you."
"Another one?"
"This one’s better. Trust me."
