I Married the President-Chapter 56: Vicious Dog and Wolf
Aiden Howkins saw right through her and smiled. "Young Madam, Young Master Quincy might not be here that quickly. He’s been extremely busy these past few days, and with the time he lost dealing with your affairs, he has to work twice as hard to catch up."
Claire Sinclair’s heart jolted, and she couldn’t help but ask, "Why is he so busy?"
"The election is imminent. All the cabinet members are busy."
"Oh, I see. In that case, please remember to tell him not to get distracted by my affairs anymore. Someone like me isn’t worth his time."
Claire Sinclair didn’t understand any of that. She could only picture him buried in official duties. ’He must be exhausted.’
Aiden Howkins chuckled. "No one can talk Young Master Quincy out of something he’s decided to do. You’d better tell him yourself."
"Alright, then I won’t trouble you. I’ll tell him myself later." She paused, remembering her purpose, and changed her tune. "Since he’s so busy, I’ll just go in and get the memorial tablet myself. Please let Mr. Quincy know that he doesn’t need to come over."
With that, she opened the car door and got out.
"Hey—" Aiden Howkins tried to call her back, but the girl was already walking away quickly.
’Seriously, she couldn’t even wait a few minutes.’
The thought of what she had gone through last night made Aiden’s blood boil, and he quickly followed her inside.
’If that beast of a father laid a hand on her again, Young Master Quincy would hold him responsible, and that was a burden he couldn’t bear.’
...
Claire Sinclair had a key to the house, so she didn’t need to knock and let herself right in.
Peter Sinclair’s family of three was in the middle of dinner. When she appeared in the doorway, three pairs of eyes shot toward her.
Peter Sinclair stood up and asked impatiently, "You useless girl, how did it go? Did you see Young Master Quincy last night? Did he agree to release him?"
Claire Sinclair stopped in the doorway and couldn’t help but laugh. It was a beautiful yet tragic laugh, born of a heart that had turned to ice. She couldn’t even be bothered with a respectful title. "What makes you think I would ask him to release anyone?"
"You useless thing! I went to so much trouble to get you into his bed, and you didn’t even talk to him? Useless! I’ll beat you to death!"
As he spoke, Peter Sinclair grabbed an ashtray from the table and hurled it at the girl.
Claire Sinclair dodged instinctively, but a pained cry came from behind her, followed by the sound of something heavy hitting the floor.
She turned to see Aiden Howkins crouching on the ground, clutching his nose. His hands were covered in blood, and the ashtray lay at his feet. His brows were furrowed in extreme pain.

Claire Sinclair walked over sympathetically, taking off her backpack to rummage for a pack of tissues. She quickly pulled one out and handed it to him. "Aiden, are you okay?"
"I’m fine, I can take it..." Aiden Howkins forced out through a pained, stuffy nose as he took the tissue.
The next second, the girl suddenly let out a bloodcurdling scream. "AHH—"
A tearing pain in her back made her collapse to her knees. She reached back to touch the spot, but Peter Sinclair’s second blow came crashing down, smashing her fingers.
"Ah..."
Her piercing shriek threatened to tear the night apart.
"Useless! Worthless thing! I ask you to do one thing and you can’t even get it done! I’m going to kill you today!" The abuser had long since lost all reason to his fury.
Seeing this, Aiden Howkins was completely stunned.
Just as Peter Sinclair was about to strike again, Aiden snapped back to his senses. Ignoring his still-bleeding nose, he charged forward and sent the abuser flying with a single kick.
Peter Sinclair’s body didn’t stop until it slammed into the wall, the impact making his vision swim.
Mrs. Lowell and Melanie Sinclair, who had been watching the spectacle from the living room, were so scared they clung to each other, neither daring to go help him.
