Chapter 11: Lucky Coincidence

What exactly was luck?

It didn’t mean absolute certainty—no, that would be fate.

Perhaps destiny.

Luck relied on probability.

It existed in the realm of chance.

Since this was where it dwelled, as long as the certainty of something wasn’t a hundred or zero, there was some wiggle room for it to be made manifest.

Take his reincarnation, for example.

There was a 99.9 percent chance that he would lose his memories, but he didn’t.

Why?

Because that 0.1 percent chance of a glitch occurring, due to the unstable nature of this new world, could be exploited by his good luck.

It was also more advantageous for him to have his past life’s memories.

Hence... he retained them.

What of his birthplace? That was also very random.

However, one had to consider many things about his birth... especially when he was bound to be a failure due to the absence of all other stats.

If he had been reborn as a peasant, his life would be far more miserable than it is now.

The opportunities he would have access to were also going to be abysmal.

He could have maximum luck, but it would only apply in small cases, only gaining little increments, simply due to his condition.

Luck could not exist in a vacuum, after all.

It required both ability and action to be made manifest.

Without it, ’chance’ could not occur.

Thus, being born a commoner was out of the equation—it would simply be too unremarkable.

However, there was equal—or even greater—danger in being reborn as a Royal.

The many schemes and political machinations would be too much for someone with very little ability and experience, such as Richard.

He would be dead before he even realized what was happening.

Then, you also had to consider his Race.

All things considered, being an Undead meant his durability and lifespan would be high, hence he wouldn’t die very easily. Vampires had Kin Recognition and sophisticated customs, so they wouldn’t get rid of him so easily, even if he was a disappointment to the family.

All of these factors coincided beautifully.

That was why he had been born into this Noble Household.

It was a suitable place for him to develop.

In other words... this was the best deal he was ever going to get, all things considered.

’Now that I think about it, I was pretty fortunate to have been found and raised by those servants.’ Richard smiled to himself. ’I was out of harm’s way, and although I was treated in a demeaning manner, being a pet meant I was pampered and didn’t have to do any hard work.’

Richard couldn’t have known this, but this also protected him from assassination attempts.

No one even knew who the only child of the Blanc Family was.

He was that unimportant. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

As such, the enemies didn’t bother attacking him in such a vulnerable period.

Then, as time passed, his parents were unable to have another child and had to look upon him favorably. This meant he was their only hope; they would have to protect him and give him all kinds of benefits despite being unworthy of them.

What about becoming a Disposition Holder?

Since only one in a hundred people awakened a Principal Disposition, his chances were one percent. It was only natural that he succeeded, since having a Principal Disposition was more favorable than not having one.

Unfortunately, Maxed-out Luck could do nothing about his lack of talent.

That was why he was always going to awaken a Low Rank Principal Disposition.

But—

Why Basic Summoning?!

—His Luck made sure to choose the best Principal Disposition for him specifically.

Yes, [Basic Summoning] was weak and rather common.

It was almost useless, to be honest.

Since the summoned object vanished after some time, it couldn’t even be used to feed oneself for an extended period, since such food would disappear after some time.

Such a power was less than mediocre—it was trash.

But... not to Richard.

The thing is, if Richard had lost his memories upon reincarnation, the ability would have truly been trash for him. He wouldn’t be able to summon anything rare or truly exceptional in this case, and he would have been confined to his knowledge of this new world.

However, that wasn’t the case this time.

When placing his memory of Earth into consideration, [Basic Summoning] could no longer be looked at as a Low Rank Principal Disposition.

Not in Richard’s eyes.

To test this out, Richard imagined something, and it appeared in his hands.

Naturally, the gun and bullets he summoned previously had already vanished. In its place was a plastic bottle with a glistening brown liquid sloshing inside.

He quickly opened the bottle and downed its contents.

"Kyahhh! Soda! I’ve missed you!"

That’s right!

He could summon any kind of delicacy from Earth and eat it to his heart’s content.

Plus, since they vanished after a short while—maximum period of a day—he didn’t have to worry about getting fat from overeating.

He had his personal buffet!

But this was only considering casual use.

What of the more dangerous aspects of his ability, like the summoned gun earlier?

If he could summon a gun, didn’t that mean he could also summon a hand grenade? A portable bomb? Poison? All manner of dangerous herbs and terrible items?

But also—

’Let me try it out...’ Richard focused his mind, and space distorted above his fingers yet again.

Then, something fell into his hand.

SSSSSZZZZ!

The moment he held the object, it burned his hand, so he had to drop it almost instantly.

It was a small, harmless item.

A single piece of cutlery.

—Silverware.

’Vampires are weak against silver, garlic, and wooden stakes according to Earth traditions. I figured I could summon something like that to see if it could work, and it actually did...’

Richard was stunned.

But also, when he thought about it well, it made a lot of sense.

Richard didn’t know too much since he was self-taught, but he found some things rather strange about this new world.

’The periodic table here is different from the one we have on Earth. Objects that resemble gold, silver, or even wood exist here, but they are comprised of different elements, so they are inherently different materials.’

He smiled.

’So, the silver used in this world can’t affect Vampires, but the ones used in my world can.’

That was why he specifically summoned a silver spoon to test out this logic.

It worked!

’What about holy water?’

SIZZLE!

The liquid burned his skin the moment it made contact, creating burns that caused him to scream very loudly in pain.

Naturally, nobody came to his rescue in the manor.

They didn’t care.

He quickly unsummoned the holy water, preventing any further damage to his skin.

’It’s too effective...’

Enduring the pain, he continued his assessment.

Thankfully, due to his regenerative factor as a Vampire, the burns began to heal—albeit at an extremely slow pace. This was even the case after he had gotten rid of all the holy water.

"Incredible!" Under shaky breath, he marveled at his new power. "I can use all kinds of wonders from Earth in this new world. Although they are only temporary measures and are limited in many ways, if I am smart about it, I can actually do so much..."

Yes... This was it!

This was what he had been looking for all this time.

—His cheat!

Well, it wasn’t really a cheat.

It was just a set of lucky coincidences that caused him to arrive at this juncture.

Truly... the power of EXCESSIVE LUCK!

"Wait, if I can summon all of these things, does that also mean..." With bulging eyes filled with anticipation, Richard activated his Principal Disposition one final time.

A brilliant light shone, and ripples appeared in space.

Then, something manifested in his hand.

It had a sleek, thin design, as well as a smooth surface that would make anyone addicted to holding it. A Pineapple logo was embedded behind it, and it had a modern sheen that screamed of luxury.

It was none other than a Smartphone!

"Hehehe... hehehehehe... Muahahahaha!" Richard began to laugh like an unstoppable villain, his loud voice filling up the room in an instant.

"The power of the modern world... in the palm of my hand!" He raised the most powerful smartphone on Earth, a culmination of thousands of years of technological advancement, into the air and laughed with delight.

"My UltraPhone 17 Pro Max!"
