Chapter 41: 041 Time Stands Still

Lin An cradled the bleeding head and approached the door with light steps.

Next to the door, a surveillance monitor was installed, clearly showing a figure standing by the door, leaning on her knees and gasping for breath.

It was indeed a woman with a graceful figure, reminiscent of a juicy peach.

Only she looked somewhat disheveled.

Her entire body was drenched as if she had been caught in the rain for a day, her black hair hanging loose and clinging to her slender, fair neck, dripping water continuously.

The visitor was dressed in pink yoga clothes, her tight, plump yoga pants tracing her exquisite curves all the way down to her bare feet, which seemed to be bleeding from a cut.

She was wrapped in a white silk overcoat but it couldn’t hide the sports vest underneath, which appeared to be on the verge of bursting.

She seemed to sense someone observing her through the camera above the door frame and hurriedly lifted her head in anxiety.

Her complexion was terribly pale, as if she was enduring pain; tears mixed with rain on her face, presenting a pitiful sight.

Hiss~

Lin An drew in a cool breath.

It was that Chen Shuyun.

“Sister!”

“Sister! I know you’re in there, please open the door!”

“!!!” Lin An paused for a moment, turning his head to look around in a bit of a panic.

Is someone in my house?

Is Chen Xinmi in my home?

Luckily, his house was too small; turning to look around provided a full view, with no places to hide anyone.

Seeing no response from inside the door, Chen Shuyun’s soft voice was full of sobs, “You have no idea how scared I was, afraid that you might suddenly die just like Mom and Dad did, where have you been during this time!”

“Please open the door!”

“Do you have any idea, I barely sensed your presence, and I rushed out from the yoga studio and searched the whole city, and I was almost caught by the Witch-hunting Knights.”

“Please open the door!”

The sister outside the door sobbed, while the torrential rain outside the window pounded against it, accompanied every now and then by flashes of lightning and the sound of thunder.

This atmosphere really made Lin An feel uneasy.

Almost caught by the Witch-hunting Knight?

Was it that she was powerful enough to escape from the hands of the Witch Hunter Knights? Or was she simply used as bait by the Witch-hunting Knights to lure out more witches?

Lin An quickly glanced out the window, wondering if there might actually be Witch Hunter Knights lying in ambush on the exterior wall of the building by this time?

Should he make it clear that he was a Witch-hunting Knight at this moment?

If he guessed wrong, would this witch kill him on the spot?

Lin An’s mind raced, and he gently pressed the button on the surveillance screen, “Sorry, you’ve got the wrong place; I’m the only one living here.”

Startled by the man’s voice coming through the monitor’s speaker, Chen Shuyun let out a panicked cry and wrapped herself in the white long shirt she was wearing.

Then, as if realizing something, she quickly raised her hand with some urgency.

Without her touching the door, the doorknob nevertheless creakily moved on its own, and the lock’s internal mechanism produced a series of strange metallic clicking sounds.

Creak~

The door automatically began to open slowly.

Click~

The door gently came to rest against the doorstop right in front of Lin An, swaying slightly.

In just an instant, the distance between him and Chen Shuyun went from a separation by the surveillance monitor to just over a meter apart, inside and outside the door.

“Impossible, my sister would never stay with a man, she’s always been a loner. Something must have happened.”

Chen Shuyun seemed not to notice Lin An, muttering to herself blankly.

Damn!

Lin An, however, was startled. Are you freaking casting witchcraft? Don’t attract Witch-hunting Knights over here!

He couldn’t care about anything else at this moment!

He quickly closed his eyes, leaving just a slit open, and his vision streamed into the sky through the slit.

His vision swept past Chen Shuyun and her Dark Gold Statue in the corridor, snaked through the community’s elevators, stairwells, and corners, and spread out into the space outside the building.

There were no Witch-hunting Knights!

Lin An even mobilized the little remaining amber-golden vitality in Chen Xinmi’s blood to strengthen his ‘Sky-Scanning Eyes’ witchcraft, elevating his vision to cover the entire community and the streets nearby.

Professor Cao’s villa appeared uninhabited, and the little boss seemed to have already gone back, all dark and quiet.

Everything seemed complicated, but it was actually incredibly fast.

It was as if he had sneaked a quick glimpse, Lin An rapidly withdrew his gaze.

Wizard witchcraft was truly marvelous. Even as a freshly awakened wizard, using ‘Sky-Scanning Eyes’ was like having a cheat code.

In the instant his vision retracted, every detail of his surroundings was captured in his eyes, sending a vast amount of information to his brain to process.

A mouse swiftly descending the stairs, a mosquito flying in mid-air, the raindrop marks on the window of the room…

With such all-encompassing vision, the Chen Shuyun before him was completely exposed to sight.

The rapidly heaving chest, the slightly quickened breath causing her tiny nose to tremble, the strange mood slowly arising from the anxious and vacant eyes…

All of it indicating that this witch’s condition was particularly wrong.

She clearly had a significant problem.

“Sister…”

Chen Shuyun turned her head and fixed her gaze on the hallway beside Lin An, staring blankly inside the room.

“You’re lying! I clearly feel that my sister is in there…”

She murmured, her gaze shifting from hollow to twisted, seemingly filled with boundless ferocity, pain, struggle, and repression—all manner of negative emotions.

At the same time, a swath of dark gold light spilled down.

In this not very spacious corridor, with less than three meters of height, Lin An could see a Dark Gold Statue that was a full five meters tall.

It was as if the entire sense of space was in disarray.

It was a statue of a kneeling figure bound tightly with red ropes, the ropes constricting fiercely, dark gold blood oozing from the constriction lines. It seemed to be in agony, its head thrown back, emitting a piercing wail.

It was obviously struggling to lift its right hand, the red ropes being pulled tauter as it did, and its wails grew more painful.

Finally, that hand slowly extended forward, palm outstretched and holding something resembling a solar corona.

Suddenly, an arrow-like shadow began to spin in the surroundings.

All of this happened incredibly quickly.

When Lin An’s ‘Sky-Scanning Eyes’ vision shrank back to cover just his room and the hallway outside, he suddenly felt his whole body slow down.

It was a unique sensation, as if he had fallen into a terrifying quagmire, unable to move.

Lin An tried to move his fingers but found it exceedingly difficult.

The whole world seemed to have come to a halt, except for the Ugly Head in his arms, which was screaming in shock, “Ahhhh~ Get me away from here, I feel like a monster is going to eat me! Hurry~”

Hurry my ass, I can’t even move.

Lin An could even see a mosquito frozen mid-flight, a mouse running downstairs with its front paws touching the ground and body tilting upwards, and the clock on the wall in the room had stopped ticking…

Everything was as if time had come to a standstill.
