I Only Want To Kill-Chapter 103: Blaze vs. Zach (3)
A shockwave expands from the sphere and pushes Blaze away from his location. He gets sent flying, rolling a few times on the ground before stopping.
A hand, covered in golden plates, reaches out from the sphere of light. And suddenly, the ground surrounding it collapses, creating a circular sinkhole.
Cracks start to appear on the surface of the sphere. And soon, Blaze can hear the high-pitched screeching of a falcon echoing throughout the space.
Blaze manages to get up, staring into the sphere with extreme determination.
The golden hand clenches into a fist, and as if that flex is the tipping point causing the entire sphere to break apart, revealing a warrior in gold.
Zach’s armor is upgraded again.
The first armor was only a golden chest plate and nothing else.
The second armor covers the entire body with few weaknesses to exploit.
The third armor is similar to the second, but it is bulkier with two giant shoulder pads on each side. The pads resemble the wings of a bird. On the top of Zach’s helmet now has a falcon symbol in the middle of the forehead.
The symbol of the sun is now burning fiercely on the chest plate.
Zach’s spear has also changed. Previously, it was only a stick with a crystal. Now it is made entirely of gold with two bladed sides spread out.
In the middle is the crystal from before. However, this time it is glowing even more, radiating an intense, malevolent light.
Zach’s armor and power definitely have some connections to Blaze’s Sun Bird. But he can feel the difference between their lights.
This light is harsh and heartless. The opposite of the life-encompassing and nurturing nature of Sun Bird’s light.
Zach slams the end of the spear onto the ground. A tiny white wave spreads out from the collision, creating a hard-hearing low tone.
"For thirty years I only used this form thrice. This is the fourth time, Wraith."
White light fills the eye sockets of Zach’s helmet, hiding his gaze and exuding an unnatural, cold aura.
Zach swings his spear. The white fang that is made out of energy is no more. Instead, a blazing white light gushes out from the crystal. It screams everywhere it goes and disintegrates the sphere of darkness completely.
For the first time ever, Darkness is neutralized. Its shadow disperses like smoke and vanishes into the air.
Blaze is truly surprised. Zach’s power is much, much more powerful than he can ever anticipate.
His ankles also seem to be perfectly fine now. The transformation has healed him.
"Those stones of yours. Where do they come from?"
Blaze asks in the hoarse voice of the Wraith.
"Hahaha! Interested, aren’t ya? Beat me, and I’ll tell you."
"I was thinking the exact same thing."
Zach steps forward, and his entire body turns into a blur. He becomes even faster now and approaches Blaze in under a second. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Zach thrusts the spear forward, aiming directly at the center point of Blaze’s upper body.
His speed is still slower than Blaze’s max speed, but the difference between them has come dangerously close.
Blaze holds his breath, turning on Lightning Ascension, and pulls back.
Zach spins his spear. The crystal discharges spiral waves that launch at Blaze.
The shadowy figure doesn’t dodge it in time and takes the entire strike onto his body. Blaze is sent flying away, slamming onto one of the cars inside the inner yard.
The front of the vehicle is completely crushed. Blaze gushes out blood from his mouth, tainting his white Tattered Mask.
Zach wastes no time to dash forward, intending to end the conflict.
’You’re strong, Deputy. Probably the strongest I have encountered. But that isn’t enough to kill me."
Blaze turns into a shadow and seeps under the vehicle, completely evading the strike. The crystal on the spear pierces into the car, splitting it in two.
Blaze turns into an eagle on the ground, spreading his wings to fly on the two-dimensional surface of the ground. His speed is much slower than before.
Zach jerks his head to the side and spots Blaze immediately. He jumps up to the sky and then slams the spear on his way down on Blaze’s location. The crystal lets out a screaming shockwave that decimates the surrounding ground.
The ground collapses into the city sewer below, pulling many patrol cars down with it. Blaze jumps off just in time.
His Shadow Tattered Cloak is now in an even more extreme tattered state. Many cuts can be seen on its dark fabric, revealing the true appearance of Blaze underneath.
It is still not enough to expose his identity.
Making use of the dust and cloud, Blaze quickly buys a Blood Potion and sips its liquid.
His broken bones and aching muscles quickly calm down. The situation is stabilized.
However, stabilization is not enough to win this fight. Blaze needs an edge to end this.
His skill is obviously not cutting it for the job. He can only think of a way to make his power overwhelm Zach.
That is the only way to win this.
Zach spins his spear, creating a gust of wind that blows all the dust and clouds away. They are now able to clearly see each other.
Their gazes meet in the air.
"That speed of yours. Can’t maintain it for too long, eh?"
Zach walks slowly forward, slamming the spear onto the ground rhythmically. Behind him is the ruinous scene of the inner yard. A large part of it is now underground, mixing with the stinky smell of the city sewer.
"You are impressive, Deputy! You were weaker than me. Then you are comparable to me. Now you are much more powerful than me.
All because of those Sunstones."
Zach lets out a chuckle, he points his spear at Blaze.
"Still interested in that stone, eh? As a parting gift, I can tell you what it is."
The crystal on his spear illuminates, threatening to end Blaze’s life with one wrong motion from him.
"If you are so kind, please tell me."
"I am generous. I will tell you. But nothing is free, Wraith. Tell me something, and I’ll tell you about the Sunstone."
Blaze nods and says, "You have my word."
Zach lowers the spear down by a little bit. The crystal is no longer aiming at Blaze’s face, but it is not that far away either.
"Who do you serve?"
"I beg your pardon?"
Zach squints his eyes, raising the spear again.
"I do not want to play games, Wraith. Tell me, who do you serve?"
Blaze smirks gently, lifting his head up to look at the sky. He needs to have an answer that satisfies the guy.
"You know. I know from our fighting as before that you tried to buy the time.
Here’s a surprise. I am doing the same thing."
Hutton appears behind Zach and shoves a Chaos Bomb at Zach’s back.
Blaze inhales deeply, holding his breath again. He has bought enough time so that his lungs generate some amount of electricity, enough for him to activate Lightning Ascension.
Blaze zips away from the location.
"You sly fuck!"
Zach and the Police Force do not have any information about Hutton at all. His Temporal Energy Manipulation (A-rank) and his Steel Manipulation (B-rank) are a sight to behold.
Those nineteen cops with their armor and advanced weapons are no match for him.
Zach buys time because of his reasons. Blaze buys time so that Hutton can finish them all.
And it looks like he did. All the corpses lying inside the building are evidence of it. Blaze is also updated closely by the System notification.
When Hutton kills a guy, the experience message will pop up. So Blaze just needs to count nineteen messages, and he knows Hutton is finished.
Zach spins his back and, at the same time, swings his spear over to Hutton and the ball of temporal energy.
But Arms burst out from his shadow to hold him in place. These arms are too weak to stop him for long. But they are effective enough to make sure Hutton eats the entire Chaos Bomb to the face.
The clear white energy also envelops Zach to slow him even more.
Layers upon layers of traps to make sure Zach cannot escape. Hutton flaps his wings to fly away.
Blaze takes out his Destruction Wand. It only needs six seconds for him to produce his most devastating attack, the purple version of Thunderbolt.
Previously, Blaze didn’t use the Wand because Zach’s armor neutralized almost all of the electricity. But this time it is different, the Chaos Bomb will definitely create some holes for Blaze to capitalize on.
And six seconds is also the exact time Zach is trapped within the slow time bubble. When the bubble breaks, the Chaos Bomb smashes on his face.
At the same time, thunder roars. The bright purple lightning bolt shoots out from Blaze’s Destruction Wand and finds its way into the colorless explosion that has enveloped Zach Dunn, Deputy of the Akansa City Police Department.
