I Only Want To Kill-Chapter 128: Cloud Coat

Every big-name reporter from the most popular journals gathers at the conference hall. Along with them are several police standing guard at every corner of the room.

Adam walks out from behind the curtain and sits down in front of the reporters.

"Commissioner! Commissioner! Are you organizing this immediate conference to make a statement about the attack?"

"Please tell us what you are going to do."

"Is the Wraith a terrorist? What is his actual identity? Does the Police Force even know?"

"People are saying the Wraith attacked the Police Department because you are corrupt. Do you have any comment about that, Commissioner Gulliver?"

The reporters come at Gulliver like a herd of vultures fighting for their prey.

Adam raises his hand to shut everyone up.

"That is not the reason I hold this conference. The reason is that I have something to announce.

I, Adam Gulliver, have been collaborating with many criminals and criminal gangs inside Akansa City.

"What?!"

"Are you confessing your crime right now?"

"Who were you collaborating with, Commissioner?"

Adam tries to calm the reporters down, but they become agitated like a little kid finding their Christmas present.

Norman walks into the room and shoots the ceiling with his gun.

"Alright! Shut the hell up! Let the Commissioner finish!"

All reporters immediately become as silent as a lamb. A few of them recognize Norman right away, but they don’t dare to speak up. Some can’t even believe in their eyes. Norman looks too young for his age.

Some of the police officers also recognize Norman. Mostly elderly officers that have been with the force for a long time.

Norman remembers these guys, he gives them a nod as a sign of respect.

The remaining police officers are all the rebels of Gulliver’s reign. They were the deserters that ran away from the Headquarters.

Norman has not told anyone about his return, so the police officers are very surprised to see him.

Officially, there is a lot of work to be done to transfer the position of the Commissioner. Most of those are paperwork and the approval from the City Council.

However, Blaze has already learned from the memory of all the trapped souls inside his Lantern that the City Council is also very corrupt. So he and Norman have decided that rather than following the official process, they will take over the police department by force.

The enemy doesn’t play fair, so they have no reason to. Norman prefers this sadistic approach more anyway.

Adam continues his speech.

"As I was saying, I was collaborating with the criminal gangs to extort the citizens of Akansa City.

I am unworthy of the title of the Police Chief of the Akansa City Police Force. Therefore, in this conference here today, I announce that I will resign from the position.

This decision is in effect immediately.

The officer who will take over my vacant spot is the previous Commissioner that everyone already knows of, Commissioner Norman Reddington."

Norman steps onto the podium. He doesn’t greet the audience or even make any welcoming gestures. The Bear put the gun into Adam’s hand.

Adam trembles lightly. He tries to maintain his composure.

Adam takes a deep breath and lets out his final words.

"As I am a humiliation to my brothers and sisters, to my city, to the citizens that believed in me, and also to my country.

I, Adam Gulliver, shall punish myself because of my crimes!"

Adam points the barrel of the gun into his mouth, and then... BANG.

His red blood splatters onto the curtains behind. The lifeless body falls onto the podium.

All the reporters erupt into panic. A man has just died in front of their eyes.

Norman picks up his gun from Adam’s hands and kicks the corpse down the podium.

His low voice echoes throughout the conference hall.

"A fitting end for a criminal.

Listen up! Fiends and criminals have taken control of this city for far too long. Adam here may be working with them, but don’t expect me to do the same.

If anyone remembers who I am, you should already know.

Now, I need all of you reporters to write this.

For all the criminals out there that are exploiting my city. You think you can come here and do whatever you want because we are tolerant. You think that we are stupid, and you keep pushing our limits. From now on, the Akansa City Police Department declares war on all the gangs inside this city.

Every single one of you has three choices.

One, turn yourself in. For your cooperation, we may reduce your sentences.

Two, get the fuck out of my city. Run as far as you can, and don’t let me see your face.

Three, stay right where you are, and we will come for you. We will kill on sight any gang members that refuse to comply. This is my final warning!"

Blaze turns off the TV and looks over to the System notification.

[Mission has been completed!]

Blaze equips the two items immediately. The Steel Claw is a single metal glove for the right hand with fingers as sharp as knives. The Running Shoe is a pair of white sneakers that don’t seem to have anything out of the ordinary.

The grappling hook was similar in the beginning. Blaze thought it was a simple traversing device until he found out that it betrayed all physical laws.

To understand these two items more, Blaze is going to need to use them. For now, he put them back in the inventory.

"The Steel Claw seems fitting to wear as the Wraith. While I can wear the Running Shoe as Blaze. Now, continue with the Uncommon one."
