Chapter 146: Chapter 146: Butcher Knife

A deafening roar of metal collision. A blinding fire spark fills the space. The butcher knife flies off in the distance. Its attack was deflected by Blaze with ease.

Blaze dashes forward, placing the two short swords on the same side and slicing them through the pig’s bubble gut. Gold, shiny fat pours out from under its flesh and floods the burial site. The gold fat dissolves any bones or remains of the dead.

The pig head screams in despair, it has lost its main weapon, and the only thing left that it can use to fend for its life is its body. The giant monster drops down on all fours and charges toward Blaze.

He attaches the two short swords into the Twinblade and then holds it in his left hand. His right hand takes out the revolver, Irony.

"Come to me, bullets of light." Blaze mumbles.

Inside the gun’s empty cylinder, white spectral bullets manifest. They are created by pure mental power that is provided by Blaze. It has never been affected by his mental state before, but now it takes the form of his emotions.

The bullets draw power from Blaze’s disdain for this disgusting and ugly cemetery, their smooth and slim outer shell suddenly burns a white flame.

The pig head runs at Blaze without any remorse. It knows it is going to die, so it pushes its limits for one last charge. Blaze raises Irony and shoots at it plainly, without even a touch of emotion on his face.

White flaming bullets shoot out from the silver barrel. The first bullet pierces through the pig’s ear, crushing it into bits. The second bullet drills into the pig’s left eye, making a bloody hole in its eye socket. The third bullet breaks its jaw, dropping its scarce teeth to the ground.

The bullets leave a trail of smoke that radiates intense white light. The white energy seems to be eating into the flesh of the pig. Its green skin fractures and leaks out white light.

The pig is obviously in pain. Its speed is slowed down, and its mouth is leaking an uncontrollable amount of saliva. The pig shakes its head with great force to try and restrain the pain. But the bullets eat into its very essence.

Blaze cocks the revolver and extends his hands. The cylinder spins and puts in the new bullet. He only has two bullets left in this cylinder.

BANG.

The deafening noise of a gunshot pierces the place. The fourth bullet puts a hole in one of its hind legs, and as a result, tumbles the pig over. The monster rolls a few times, scraping its flabby skin onto the dark ground.

It stops right before Blaze wits its pig head looking at him. It screeches and screams the noises of an animal. Blaze can’t understand it, but he knows it is begging for its life.

He places the barrel on its snout.

"You should have considered it carefully before attacking me."

The pig snaps the gun away with its mouth and tries to bite Blaze. The Twinblade in his left hand swirls over and slices through its mouth. There isn’t any resistance at all, and the blade cuts through like the flesh is butter.

Half of its mouth drops on the ground, revealing the bone and flesh under its skin. Blaze releases the final bullet into its throat.

The bullet goes down its throat and bounces around its organs, wreaking havoc on this monster’s internal machine. More and more cracks appear on its flesh. The other bullet wounds burn more fiercely, and cracks reach out to connect with each other. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

The monster trembles intensely. Light leaks out from under the cracks even more.

And then, it explodes into a sky of tiny white dust. The explosion is harmless, and not even a tiny shockwave is created. Blaze can hear a lot of voices echoing in the space. Happy, relieved, thankful, an array of positive emotions.

[You have slain The Pig Butcher]

[You have gained 200 experience points!]

[You have received the Butcher Knife]

"Oh? This monster doesn’t have a Crisis Core."

The giant Butcher Knife flies over from far away. On its way, its disgusting and bloody shell is torn away, revealing a clean but still intimidating weapon underneath. It drops right at Blaze’s feet, ready for him to pick up at any time.

[Butcher Knife]

- Type: Equipment

- Rank: Uncommon

- Hidden Power: Infected Knife

- Infected Knife: Dealing damage with this weapon has a chance to make the enemy infected. Infected enemies will experience nausea, headache, vomiting, and other symptoms.

Even though its name contains the word ’Knife,’ the actual size of that thing makes its reach no shorter than Blaze’s Twinblade. It may be even a bit longer. Its large blade is very wide and can even be used as a shield to cover Blaze.

Blaze grabs at its long handle. There are white, ragged bandages wrapped around it. It is very heavy, and ordinary people are not going to be able to use it effectively at all. The knife is a perfect addition to Blaze’s current arsenal. The Twinblade is good, but it leans more toward precise and fast strikes. The Butcher Knife can act as the opposite, an intimidating weapon with a great force of destruction behind it.

On one side of the knife, there is a special symbol that Blaze is able to recognize.

"Hmmm. The Spellbook of the Death mentions this type of pattern before. If I’m not mistaken, it should be a magic circle."

Magic circle, a spell solidified into a physical pattern that can be engraved onto items. Blaze isn’t familiar with this type of magic. But he can decipher the purpose of the circle on the Butcher Knife.

"This magic circle should be an attaching one."

Blaze swings the Butcher Knife and places it on his back. The knife sticks behind him by an invisible force and stays rigid. A simple spell for an easier carry.

"A weapon like this was obviously designed for a human to use. How did it end up with that pig?

Hmm! Who is there?"

Blaze materializes Irony in his hand again, he aims at a tombstone. Two tiny arms raise up from behind the tombstone.

"Don’t shoot! I’m just a kid!"

"Show yourself... Slowly." Blaze cocks the gun. This layer is too unexpected for him to lower his guard. He can’t believe anything that he sees.

A boy reaches his head out from behind one of the tombstones. On his face is a thin white mask that has a long beak at its nose.

"And you are?"

"Peter, sir! People also call me the Wandering Boy."

"Are you dead, Peter?"

"No, sir! I am here because newcomers usually get tricked into coming here. I’m just making sure they won’t get themselves killed.

But I don’t think you need my help, though. You are perfectly capable on your own and even slaughter a Wretched Soul."

The boy tries his best to hide his panic and answers Blaze’s questions.

Blaze lowers the gun down. He doesn’t believe what Peter is saying, but he can feel that Peter has a soul. That is enough of a difference to stop this aggression.

"Newcomer? Wretched Soul? Tell me more, boy."

"Of course, sir. Newcomers are the dreamers. The people who got sucked into this Dream Layer. They usually don’t have high mental power and can very easily die here.

When you die in your dream, your body also dies in real life.

A wretched soul is a natural phenomenon in this world. In a place where too many dreamers die, a wretched soul will be born by the energy the dead left behind. That pig man was one of them."

"Interesting... You can put your hands down and relax now. I won’t be hurting you."

Peter slowly lowers his hands, the eyes behind the mask stare at Blaze intensely. Blaze has an even more terrified appearance than the pig that died. He seems like he is made out of darkness, with the fabric of the Tattered Cloak moving like tentacles.

"Thank you, sir... May I leave?"

"One moment. I need to clarify something."

Blaze opens up the map. The cemetery throws him off, and Blaze doesn’t know where he is anymore.

"I got this piece of map from the Trader. Where are we right now?"

"The Trader? Wow. You must be really special for him to show up."

When the boy hears about the Trader, his anxiety lowers significantly. Blaze can feel that Peter is opening up to him more. This makes him wonder who the Trader actually is.

"What do you mean?"

"The Trader isn’t a dreamer, you know. He is a being from the Void. He only helps those he deems worthy enough. As for where we are exactly... Here! On the map."

Blaze is in the right direction, however, he is a bit to the right. While the village is in the middle, the cemetery is right next to it.

"I don’t even see the village on my way here. How the hell did I come to the cemetery?"

"That’s what the Woods do to you, sir. Unfortunately, not many are as lucky as you. You see those corpses and skeletons, sir? They are all dreamers that were killed by the current Wretched Soul."

"I see. Would you lead me to the village, boy?"

"Of course, sir!"
