I Received System to Become Dragonborn-Chapter 948: The Interview Begin
Chapter 948: The Interview Begin
Erend stepped into the room and immediately saw Adrien Boartusk seated alone, the man surrounded by tall stacks of folders and papers.
His posture was rigid as always and his eyes scanned documents with sharp precision.
A few red-marked sheets were spread on the table indicating those who’d already caught his attention. For better or worse.
"Didn’t we already sort them for the first batch?" Erend asked as he approached.
Adrien glanced up but didn’t stop reading. "Not yet. I want to evaluate more."
"You do know we can’t exactly reject them at this point right, Captain?" Erend said, leaning on the edge of the table.
"I know," Adrien replied. "But that doesn’t mean I can’t dig deeper into their personality. We’ve seen what happens when the wrong person gets a taste of this kind of power. I’m not letting that happen again if I can help it. You should too."
Erend nodded slowly, understanding what Adrien meant. They weren’t dealing with ordinary recruitment anymore. The soldiers chosen here would be part of something far more dangerous and more fragile kind of power.
The Magic that would be awakened inside after the experiment had to be handled with responsibility and the wrong hands could turn that into disaster. Just like what happens with Steven at that time. freёweɓnovel_com
Five minutes later, Billy entered the room, looking slightly disheveled. He dropped his bag on the table and asked the same question Erend had.
Adrien gave him the same answer, and Billy only sighed, muttering something under his breath before joining the quiet watchful review process.
About half an hour passed in focused silence before a knock came at the door. Billy opened it and saw a soldier standing at attention outside.
"General Lennard requests your presence in the audition room, sir."
Billy gave a quick "Alright," and turned back. All three of them rose and followed the soldier down the hall.
When they entered the large sparse chamber set up for the evaluations, only two figures waited. They were General Lennard himself and a tall blonde woman in uniform beside him.
Her presence was striking not because of beauty, but because of her expression. Cold, commanding, and deliberate. She had the same fierce calmness as her father. Erend immediately recognized her, Major Lennard, General Lennard’s daughter.
Erend found himself impressed despite himself. The General had kept his word. No high-ranking officers lingering around to interfere, no political observers or higher-ups trying to force a name into the list.
This was how it should be. Only those who understood the weight of Magic need to be here to make the call.
The selection began a minute later. One by one, young candidates were brought in.
General Lennard and his daughter led the questioning, their voices measured and their questions were deep. They probed about their motivations, fears, strengths, and instincts. What did the candidates want from this? What would they do with power and what did they fear losing?
Erend, Adrien, and Billy sat off to the side and only listening intently for most of the part. Every so often, one of them would break the flow with a question not in the script. Something to test reaction, honesty, or hidden intent.
These moments were brief but revealing, and each of them kept mental notes.
The process continued for three long hours, until finally General Lennard stood and declared a pause when the lunch break time arrived.
"We’ll rest first," he said with a tired voice.
Everyone agreed with a relieved feeling. They indeed needed a break.

The cafeteria buzzed faintly with the sounds of utensils clinking and quiet chatter as Erend, Adrien, Billy, and Major Jessica Lennard stepped inside.
General Lennard had returned to his office, leaving the four of them to eat together.
The moment they entered, the atmosphere changed. Dozens of candidate soldiers paused in the midst of their bite, some lowering their trays, others stopping their conversations. Eyes followed the four as they moved toward the food counter.
No one said anything, but their silence spoke volumes. Respect, tension, and curiosity filled the air.
They took their food and sat at one of the long tables near the back. The moment stretched quiet. For a few seconds, no one said a word and just absorbed in their meals and in the weight of the morning’s evaluations.
Then Jessica broke the silence.
"This is going to be a long week," she muttered with certainty.
Erend, Adrien, and Billy nodded at the same time, all of them knowing she was right.
Jessica took a moment to glance at each of them, something clearly turning in her thoughts.
Then she spoke again, her tone curious but also cautious.
"To be honest... I still want to understand more about the true nature of this Magic power."
That drew their attention. All three looked up at her.
Erend tilted his head. "Didn’t you read the full report on the experiment, Major?"
"I did," Jessica replied, eyes fixed on her plate. "But it’s hard to wrap my head around it. The president went mad in those classified events years ago and it still feels unreal to me."
Adrien, Billy, and Erend exchanged a quick glance.
"You’ll need to believe it’s real now," Adrien said flatly. "This kind of power was far more than a weapon. Everything from fantasy novels like the summons, shields, illusions, elemental attacks, it’s all possible and all dangerous."
Jessica leaned slightly toward Adrien, her voice dropping into a whisper. "You three... you’ve got that power too, don’t you?"
Adrien gave a small nod. "It’s not a secret in this base anymore. That’s why we’re here and become the supervisors of this experiment. So nothing like Steven happens again."
"We’ll be strict about it," Billy added firmly. "I don’t care if it hurts their feelings. If something feels wrong, we will eliminate them in the middle of the test."
Erend nodded.
Jessica stared at her tray for a second, then gave a slow nod.
"You’re right. It has to be that way." Her voice didn’t waver, but deep down, she couldn’t shake the unease creeping inside her.
She was afraid—not of them—but of what this power could do if it ever slipped out of control.
She hid the feeling behind her usual cold expression and continued eating.
