I Received System to Become Dragonborn-Chapter 990: Relaxed
Eccar and Krono stepped into their lodging. The gentle creak of the wooden floor greeting them as the door closed behind.
The scent of rich and earthy fresh timber filled the air, almost comforting. Every wall, beam, and panel was smooth and polished wood. Each surface was carved with intricate flowing patterns of leaves, vines, and creatures of the forest.
It was clear this house was not merely built but crafted by skilled hands, likely also by the artisans who poured their pride into every curve and groove. This house is an amazing piece of art.
Eccar’s eyes roamed over the details, comparing them to the grandeur of the Elf palace he and Erend had stayed in, which was in another world.
There, the halls were stone and marble, iron gates, and in places adorned with silver and gold. Here, the style was different. It was softer and warmer.
There was almost no metal at all. Perhaps stone was used in the foundations, but the heart of this place was wood, alive with the artistry of the forest Elves.
He lowered himself into a reclining chair near the window. The wood smooth against his palms, and looked out at the lively scene beyond.
Elves moved in the city with an easy rhythm. Their laughter carried on the breeze.
The forest itself seemed to breathe with them, every step blending with the whisper of leaves. Now the huge trees didn’t seem threatening.
Eccar couldn’t see the full extent of this Elven kingdom through the towering trees but he suspected that once viewed from above, it would surprise him.
"From here, we can start looking for the information," Krono’s voice came lazily from the bed where he lay stretched out, hands folded behind his head. "The Elves’ library has records of something that might be a Dragonborn."
"But you said their information is limited," Eccar replied, still watching the peaceful life outside.
"It is," Krono said with a faint smile. "Even here, the Dragonborn hides themselves. Not completely, but they conceal their identity as a Dragonborn while living as anyone else might. Like us, they can take other forms."
Eccar glanced back at him. "So they could be living as humans... or thee Aarakocra... or even Elves?"
"Yes."
Eccar nodded thoughtfully.
A sudden, hard knock broke the quiet. Eccar rose, opened the door, and found the fierce-eyed Elf woman from earlier standing there.
Three others stood behind her, each holding trays of food.
Eccar smiled warmly. "Thanks for the hospitality."
Her gaze sharpened, moving from him to Krono on the bed.
"I don’t know what you said to the king to make him let you stay," she said coldly, "but I won’t take my eyes off you."
Eccar nodded lightly as if it wasn’t a big deal. "Alright."
She gestured for two Elves to bring the trays inside.
Krono sat up just enough to thank them before they left.
"Let’s enjoy this food for now and start tomorrow," Krono said.
"You seem relaxed for someone with a big problem ahead," Eccar remarked.
"Don’t worry. Nothing will happen in this forest for a couple of weeks."
Eccar nodded. "Ah, that’s good."
They began to eat.

The next morning, Erend awoke in his own home. He had decided to return the previous night because he didn’t want to leave his mother alone for too long.
Adrien had taken over his post at the facility.
After breakfast with his mother, filled with easy conversation, Erend took the car and drove to the facility.
Tomorrow they would receive the books Adrien had promised. For now, they would continue training the candidates using the basic Magic knowledge that Adrien and Billy already understood.
Erend’s car rolled to a stop at the facility gate. The morning sun glinted off the reinforced barriers and two uniformed guards stepped forward.
He lowered his window, handed over his ID, and waited as one scanned it while the other gave him a brief but professional nod. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Once cleared, the heavy gate slid open with a grinding sound and Erend drove inside, parking in his usual spot.
The sound of voices drew him toward the training yard. The candidates were already up. Their uniforms damp with sweat, Adrien standing at the front barking commands.
"Faster! Keep that rhythm and don’t slack now!" His voice carried with a mix of authority and encouragement.
Erend paused at the edge, a small smile tugging at his lips as he watched Adrien push them through the morning drills.
He moved on toward the building, heading to their main room. A few minutes later, the door opened and Jessica and Billy stepped in together.
"Good morning, Sergeant," Jessica greeted, her tone polite but warm.
Erend glanced at them both, raising an eyebrow. "Isn’t it a coincidence that the two of you arrived at the same time?"
Billy shot him a glare. "Don’t make it awkward, man. Of course it’s just coincidence!"
Jessica only smiled, neither confirming nor denying, and Erend let out a chuckle before turning back to his desk.
Hours passed quickly and soon the candidates were gathered in the underground chamber. The facility’s deeper level where the real Magic experiments took place.
The once-crowded space was now cleared, the bulky machinery pushed aside so just leaving the center open for the group.
Erend scanned the faces before him. Even without speaking he could see the tension on their tight shoulders and darting eyes and their pale face. It was the look of people feeling the edge of something unknown inside their body.
The awakening of Magic was not a small change. Their bodies were adjusting to a force that had been dormant until now.
Adrien stepped forward, a microphone in hand, his voice echoing softly through the chamber.
"You’ve now awakened the power of Magic," he began, his gaze sweeping over the group. "But that doesn’t mean you can control it yet. The first step is learning to command it with your mind. Without that, you’ll be dangerous to yourselves and others."
He gestured toward the cleared floor. "We’ll start with meditation."
The candidates exchanged uncertain looks but followed instructions, taking their places in a wide circle. The dim lighting and quiet sounds of the air system set a calm backdrop.
Adrien’s voice lowered, guiding them through the process. They breathing slow and letting their thoughts settle, reaching inward toward the strange new pulse within them.
The air in the room seemed to change as they began. There was a subtle tingling beneath the surface as if the Magic itself was listening.
