I Refused To Be Reincarnated-Chapter 626: Not My Fate, Bastard!
Chapter 626: Not My Fate, Bastard!
The emperor watched Adam clutch his chest in horror. Hesitation flashed through his purple eyes, but a determined glow rapidly overwhelmed it. How could he demand any more help from this rude but valiant brat? Even when despair had ravaged his resolve, Adam had never given up.
No! Andras’ puppet revival, the curse he now cast on Adam, and the threat looming over the realm—everything was his fault.
He leapt out of his seat, his jaw clenched. "I won’t let you share my fate, brat!" His feeble grip met Adam’s spasming shoulders as he tried to pick him up. "I’ll distract the puppet, so leave. Leave and become the strongest cultivator the realm has ever seen. Leave and prevent another tragedy from occurring."
He retrieved a dark book. Exquisite constellations, brilliant suns, and black holes surrounded by event horizons so lifelike that they seemed to devour the other painting’s lights, decorated the ancient wooden cover.
In the center, proud golden characters evoking a sense of eternity, grandeur, and culmination revealed the technique’s long-forgotten name: Celestial Void Dominion.
"Take it and become the realm’s hero!" The emperor gazed at Adam solemnly.
However, his face darkened as Adam’s spasms increased and his sky-blue eyes grew a hate-filled scarlet.
With a forceful crack of his shoulder, he pushed the emperor back to his seat. Simultaneously, he snatched the book and huffed. "Become a hero yourself, bastard!"
Rage distorting his features, he closed his eyes and entered his soul sea. He threw the book on the lush plain, next to Elena’s and Kwame’s grimoires, then rushed toward the green pool of liquid fire.
The demonic cleaver planted on the charred island in the middle came into view a split second later as he roared. "Be useful for once, you useless piece of scrap, and stop this curse!"
The cleaver hummed, its whispers thundering through his soul sea. "Summon me! I’ll rip this puppet to shreds. I’ll devour its essence and the fragment of Andras’ soul. No, I’ll torture it for millennia and use its pathetic pleading for my entertainment."
Adam stomped the ground, soil bursting into the fire. "I’ll die if you don’t stop the curse and you know what’s great about it? The puppet will claim you! You’ll become his underling, a lapdog barking at his every command. Hahaha! Aamon’s cleaver, the feared second treasure of the demon realm, reduced to such a humiliating state after fifteen thousand years of absence. Don’t stop the curse. I’ll turn back into a ghost just to see that."
"You dare?!" The pool’s flames coalesced, tongues of green flames swirling to form giant limbs. It towered before Adam, its fiery face distorted in wrath.
It raised both fists overhead in a crushing motion as it roared. "I’ll never forget this humiliation. Mark my words, you’ll pay for it in blood and misery!"
A sharp whistle echoed its arms’ cataclysmic descent. Yet, Adam didn’t flinch. Instead, he smirked mockingly, even as the scent of sulfur flooded his nostrils and a torrent of sweat poured down his pores. freēnovelkiss.com
BAM
The plain cracked like glass beneath his feet, deep crevices spreading for several kilometers. A dust cloud blew his regrowing hair upward as motes of soil dirtied his sweaty face.
He glared at the giant’s hands buried in a deep pit a dozen centimeters away. Then, at the putrid mass of energy that came out with them.
Pitch black, and insidious, he understood how this curse’s scalpel-like limbs had tried to disentangle his thoughts from his soul. Even worse, he could directly compare it to Ignatius’ brain bug in function, except that this one targeted the ethereal.
As for the cleaver? Did it take him for a fool? With the many help offers it had formulated, he had long understood it didn’t want him to die. At least, not yet. And it had just exposed the reason even if he had guessed it: devour the puppet. After all, hadn’t it done the same with the remnants of demonic energies permeating Decarabia’s bones eight years ago?
With the pain that tore through his soul gone, he scoffed, leaving a last biting remark as he closed his eyes. "See? You can be more than a crying junk when you want."
When he reopened them a split second later, the golem’s interior met his gaze. He felt the emperor’s hand tugging at his robes to awaken him.
"You can’t die so young. What have I done... This mistake. No... this sin’s weight is unbearable." The emperor’s voice cracked as he remembered Adam’s out of this realm’s mastery. "Because of me, one of the brightest geniuses in this realm’s history died."
Simultaneously, the puppet burst into sadistic laughter. "How does it feel to see your last hope crumble? How does it feel to have one more innocent child’s blood tainting your guilty hands? But you don’t have to suffer any more. Come out. Let’s end this long farce once and for all."
As the emperor trembled, Adam slapped him across the face.
Caught off guard, the stinging pain forced him out of his negative thoughts—just in time to hear Adam’s suppressed whispers.
"That’s for calling me a hero." His eyes narrowed into slits as he placed a finger over his lips. "Return to your seat. Don’t move. Don’t talk aloud."
Wide-eyed, the emperor’s trembling fingers ran on his red cheek. When did anyone ever slap him, the great void emperor? Yet, the anger he should have felt didn’t manifest. Instead, his lips curled into a relieved smile and a tear rolled down his eyes as he saw Adam’s completion recover.
Though he wanted to ask how Adam had subjugated the curse, he held back and offered a firm nod as he sat and whispered, "What do we do?"
"Continue to lament. He must believe I’m on the brink. Once he approaches to finish you off, we unleash hell on this bastard." He raised a finger, shadows dancing on his somber face. "We only have one chance to take him off guard."
Without wasting a second, the emperor faked sobs of despair and used his painful memories of the curse’s workings to manipulate the puppet’s beliefs.
"You’re body... No! Please, don’t let your soul leave any further. Why am I condemned to watch everyone I care for die? What have I done to the heavens to deserve such misery?"
Adam leaned forward, gesturing for the emperor to prepare—as expected, the puppet began to approach the golem, a cruel glint flashing in his eyes.
