Chapter 664: The Last Vortex: Beginning the Path

Adam’s eyes snapped open inside his cultivation chamber. He gazed at his trembling fingers, clenching them into a fist. The air trapped between them and his palm popped with this simple movement as a grin split his face. "I’ve completed the last vortex!"

A tear almost rolled down his cheek. It took around two years of refinement! But finally, finally, he would start cultivating. Still, he couldn’t help but whistle at the feeling of qi continuously entering his cells. It was as if his body breathed life force instead of oxygen. Even during the dull process, the vortexes’ effects already shone.

He was stronger, faster, and brimming with vitality, so much so that he didn’t look like a kid about to turn ten. Well, not like a normal one, that was for sure, with his one hundred and fifty-five centimeters and elegant face radiating wisdom...

’Ok, not wisdom—knowledge...’ How could he not, after swimming with inky formation diagrams and his beloved flying bastion’s plans?

But before cultivating, a quick check of his interface window was in order.

Note: How do you find new ways to cheat every time I turn my head, huh? I almost preferred when you were a potion junky...

"What preferred when I can be both? Let me unlock my Qi limit with a really fast breakthrough." He snickered at the note and straightened his posture on his soft cultivation cushion.

Somehow, his qi stopped growing after reaching 999. He reasoned the limit was somehow related to his dantian’s realm, not that it mattered much. With his vortexes and pills, he would reach the next limit in the blink of an eye now that he could cultivate.

And now it was time to condense those twenty-eight mansions! But with which one should he start?

He tapped on his cheek pensively. They all had amazing effects, but the vermillion bird of the south tempted him a little more than the others since it embodied energy. Using it as a foundation should give him a slightly easier time forming the next mansions.

With an eager nod, he closed his eyes again.

Instantly, a barren void, in which soft gray wisps twirled, filled his mind—the current state of his dantian.

Following his cultivation technique rigorously, he gripped a long wisp and folded it on itself one, then a hundred, then a thousand times with a focused thought. Each folding condensed the life force into something more solid—brighter.

After a million times, a sphere burning with energy illuminated the darkness before more joined it, arranging themselves in a delicate pattern that resembled a chariot. They were only palm-sized but carried the promise of progressing alongside him. And more importantly, it made him shudder in delight as they formed a cluster. He had completed the first mansion so fast!

No. He had a tendency not to feel time pass when he focused. He opened his eyes, smiling wryly at the orange sky and the sun dipping behind the horizon. "Should have seen it coming. Still, even with one daily cluster, I’ll catch up with Misha in no time."

"Oh yeah? Wanna bet?" Misha’s voice suddenly erupted behind him. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

He leapt to his feet, his eyes wide as he saw her cross her arms over her chest and smirk. "I told you not to surprise me like that! Seriously, what are you? A ghost?! And trust me, I know a lot about them!"

Misha covered her lips and chuckled like a kid. Her blond hair cascaded down her fit shoulders and green silky robes with the movement as her amused voice echoed. "I already told you I can mimic natural spirits."

He clicked his tongue. With her bestial abilities, she was already the stealthiest human. But as if it wasn’t enough, Lulu had the brilliant idea to make her cultivate undetectable qi... "Yeah, so worse than a ghost. At least I can feel them."

Misha winked, then grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the cultivation building. "It’s not important, not today! You’ve been patient for the last two years. Heck, I don’t know how you endured it while I kept talking about breaking throughs to the core formation realm. But you did."

Confused, he watched her halt before the kitchen. Then, he felt her warm lips on his forehead before she nudged him inside. "You deserve a reward and your accomplishment a feast!"

"Wait, what?"

His eyes widened as he saw Xie Lian clap her raised hands and shout. "Congratulations!"

Lulu followed, her fairy wings flapping and her tiny hands grabbing his nose. "I know how frustrating the task was. You did well, Adam!" Her lips curled into a radiant smile. "Now, everything should sail smoothly for a long while."

Xie Lian nodded, her violet eyes curving. "There’s no way you’ll end up stuck in the nascent soul realm for as long as me, with such a solid foundation."

She pulled his arm and pressed on his shoulders, forcing him to sit at the table with a grin.

Scents of grilled fish brushed in a layer of savory sauce, fresh qi rice, and sweet cakes forced his lips to curl upward. No matter where he looked, he couldn’t see a single spot of wood with the many delicacies they had littered the table with—all just for this celebration.

He lowered his head, a warm sensation spreading around his chest as they all sat around him with gentle smiles.

"Come on, guys. You know I’m patient and didn’t mind the wait even if I complained a few times... many times." He closed his eyes, his voice cracking slightly. "Thank you, though. I really appreciate the work you’ve put into it."

Misha gripped a pair of chopsticks and shoved a morsel of grilled fish into his mouth. "You’re acting weird. Eat before you scare us more with your honest feelings!"

Xie Lian slapped the corner of the table, bursting into laughter. "So true! Where are your cheeky remarks? Just eat, Adam. We already know when you’re thankful."

His knowledge is tier 8, though
