Chapter 665: The Immortal Beauty’s Headache

Adam had a fantastic sleep after the feast—the best he ever had. Even as the morning sun rays filtered through the windows to warm his sleepy face, his heart beat a delighted tune, and his lips curved.

He nudged Misha’s tender cheeks. "Wakey, sleeping beauty. Time to tackle yet another day."

She yawned, then reached for the back of his neck. Giggling, she brought him into a hug and planted a warm kiss on his cheek. "Mhh. Aren’t you supposed to wake the sleeping beauty with a kiss?"

He patted her head with a grin. "I guess so. I’ll wait for you to eat a poisoned apple your body can’t resist. After, let’s say, six years of coma? I’ll appear wearing shining armor on a white stallion, bend over the flowery coffin you lie in and give you a magic kiss full of love and longing."

She pulled back, rolling her eyes. "Way to break the mood. What magic kiss? And where do you want to find poison potent enough to force me into a six-year coma?" She punched her palm with a snort. "I’ll eradicate any trace of it in six hours!"

They gazed at each other, their eyes sparkling before erupting into light chuckles.

"That’s true. Should I call you fairy or immortal beauty?" He winked, changing the subject. "Anyway, how is your town’s project progressing?"

"Don’t talk about this headache." She pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed. "I’m trying to revive the tech from my childhood memories. But they’re still just that—things I marvelled at in my youth without understanding how they worked."

He nodded, remembering how he saw her frown over diagrams or plans for two years. Despite her decent progress, the repeated failures slowly built into frustration. He didn’t want to see her like that.

"I know you don’t want my help, but what about Lulu? She’s an expert..."

She raised her palm, cutting him off with a frown. "No, no, and no. That’s my project. I’ll see it to its end myself." She clasped her chest, feeling her heart hasten as her words became confused. "It’s... You know my story. My family... I want to revive their legacy. It’s my duty..."

He hugged her, grimacing as he felt her tremble against his chest. "It’s ok, Misha. I understand. Take your time to build something your father would be proud of."

Even if she lived with it, he knew a part of her still blamed herself for her family’s death. Perhaps this town was her way to bid them farewell for good—a grave to commemorate them.

They shared warmth for half a minute, silent, before Misha pulled back and smacked the top of his head softly. "Ha! Got you with my sad acting! But time is running out, and a day only has so many hours. I’m sure you’re dying to cultivate or work on your own project."

She pushed him out of the bed, grinning. "Go, or your fairy immortal will begin to look down on you."

He knew she was strong, but her family had always been a gaping wound she tried to mend. She was just reluctant to see him worry. Hopefully, this town would serve as the last stitch she needed. Still, fairy immortal? It was just a joke in passing, so why did she combine the two names?

With an amused nod, he waved his hand, grabbed a bowl of savory food from yesterday’s feast in the kitchen, then went to the library.

Back behind his desk, he observed the hundreds of parchments stacked in a neat pile. The scent of fresh ink was intoxicating, but nothing compared to the progress he made in those two years.

By now, he had fleshed out the underground tunnel networks, perfected the energy storage and transmission magic circles, and refined the fortress’ flight system to the limit. freewёbnoνel-com

The mana barrier was now a vibrating abomination. Even microscopic contamination would dissolve upon contact, which would keep his land healthy in the outside realm. The qi barrier, on the other hand, hadn’t changed. Stabilising the ecosystem by regulating temperature and the energies absorbed by the fortress’ nexus would already put a lot of pressure on it.

He gave the pages a quick browse, nodding after not finding mistakes. Yet, the noise of ruffling silk drew his attention to the door.

A brow raised, he nodded at Xie Lian, who held a piece of parchment. "How rare to see you here."

Moving to his desk, she slammed the paper with a smirk and planted a hand on her hip. "Who in his right mind would enjoy this stench of dusty paper and old ink? I would continue to ignore this place if it wasn’t to discuss my idea."

How could she ridicule his temple of knowledge? He shook his head, frowning at the purple blocks drawn on her parchment. "What’s this?"

"Didn’t I tell you I had an idea to improve the ring that will surround the blessed land?" She pointed at the blocks. "I thought about it for a while. Instead of a single rigid structure, why don’t you build it from different pieces?"

His eyes instantly lit up. That was actually excellent. He could craft and use them gradually, even if he lacked materials for the entire ring. But that was nothing compared to the second use he saw.

Even if he crafted the ring from the finest materials, it would be too big of a target against several spiritual ascension realm experts. Damages were bound to happen during the attack.

By then, the single structured ring would become a nightmare to repair. In the worst case, he might have to change it entirely or cut the obsolete part while risking damaging the others. And he didn’t even consider what would happen if the cannons were hit.

But with a modular ring? Just switch out the damaged blocks, and it’ll sparkle like new!

He raised his thumb and chuckled in delight. "I like this idea, Lian! And the work you put behind it!" He read the annotations at the side and patted her back. "Very professional."

"Hehehe. Now all you need is to gather materials and breakthrough before you can build it, right?" She gripped his arm, dragged him out, then raised her fist in the fresh garden. "What are you still doing in this library, then? Let’s go to the cultivation chambers!"
