Chapter 283: Real Control

It happens in an instant.

In the split second Arthur pulls his mana back to call in his Fire, everything explodes.

Arthur doesn’t have time to think, let alone realize what is happening.

First comes the explosion of heat, followed by fire.

The blast sends Arthur flying straight into the incoming haelions, their tusks aimed directly at him.

Meanwhile, the fire breaks out everywhere in the gym, surrounding the water bubble that is protecting Julian, Liam, and Alicia.

The wall of the water bubble begins cracking under the force of the explosion.

Theo reacts based on his years of experience handling student magi who have lost control in almost the same way as Arthur.

But none of them were Ascendants.

Arthur is the first Ascendant to lose control of his True Resonance.

Theo waves both of his hands.

With one hand, he calls upon Wind to pull Arthur away from the charging haelions and gently sends him into the water bubble.

With the other hand, he summons ice pikes that instantly kill the haelions.

At the same time, he stomps one foot onto the floor, covering the entire floor, walls, and ceiling with snowflake crystals.

Effectively fighting the heat and fire that have broken out.

Next, he moves again, positioning himself in front of the water bubble, protecting it and the people inside from another group of charging haelions.

In less than ten seconds, Theo handles everything perfectly.

On the eleventh second, the HB dungeon slowly changes back into the original gym, since Theo has already cleared it instantly.

The people inside the bubble, especially Alicia, can only gape.

They cannot say anything.

Everything happens too fast for their brains to follow.

Again, especially for Alicia, who has never seen Theo in real action before.

The wall of the water bubble slowly disappears.

The moment Theo locks eyes with one of them, he asks,

"Everyone okay?"

"Everyone" can only stare at Theo and at each other.

They cannot say anything else.

Their minds are blown.

Seeing their reactions, Theo laughs.

"I take it you guys are okay then."

He walks over to Arthur to check on him.

Arthur is conscious.

Only shocked, nothing more.

His brain hasn’t caught up yet.

He looks at Theo, then at the others.

"What happened?"

The others shake their heads and reply,

"We don’t know."

Theo pats Julian’s shoulder and asks him to turn off the HB and unlock the gym door.

Julian, his mind blank, nods and does what he is told without resistance.

Theo then puts Liam’s arm around his shoulder, completely forgetting his current height.

Liam only looks at him and says,

"It’s better if Arthur and Julian do it. You’re too small, Thea. Besides, I think I can walk now."

Theo nods and leads all of them out of the gym.

When the gym doors open, Maeve is standing outside, pale.

"What’s going on in there? Are you okay?!" Maeve asks the moment the doors open.

Both sides are shocked when they see each other’s state.

And they need several seconds to calm down.

"Let’s all head back to the apartment. Then everyone can update everyone else," Theo says. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

------------------------------

Rhaenas HQ is not located at the center of the capital, but in one of the suburbs surrounding it, called Sunspire District. Although it is a suburb, it is one of the busiest suburbs in Solarys.

Their neighborhood is like a small city of its own. It has office buildings, apartment buildings, schools, restaurants, parks, and even a small yet sophisticated hospital called Sunspire Hospital.

Rhaenas HQ, which Liam always calls RHQ, is located next to an apartment complex called Sunspire Apartments.

An intern from the hospital is walking toward the building to start his shift.

He dreads his shift, because this is his first night shift.

His shift would not start until seven p.m., but he is so afraid of being late that he already a few minutes away from the hospital at three in the afternoon.

As he walks slowly, passing RHQ, he suddenly feels hot.

Really hot.

Hotter than the peak of summer in Solarys.

Which should be impossible.

This is the end of autumn, and Solarys is always on the cold side, despite being located near the sea.

Even in the middle of summer, the hottest temperature in Solarys rarely goes above twenty-seven degrees.

Nothing more.

So it is understandable that the intern is completely dumbfounded.

As RHQ slowly falls behind him, the air becomes cooler again.

He stops.

He looks back.

Thinking.

Then he turns around and walks back toward the building.

He feels it again.

The heat.

He frowns and mutters, "How is that possible?"

He scans the surroundings.

For a rare moment, no one else is walking on the sidewalk. Vehicles still pass by on the street.

A man riding a bicycle passes him.

The intern watches carefully, waiting to see if the man reacts to the heat.

But the cyclist simply rides past as if nothing is happening.

The intern frowns again.

And he can feel himself starting to sweat, because he is standing right in front of the RHQ entrance.

He then walks back and forth along the sidewalk, trying to determine where the heat is coming from.

Back and forth.

Back and forth.

Soon he realizes that only one particular area is much hotter than the surroundings.

The building with no name on it.

Just a large number plaque that reads 78.

He quickly pulls out his phone, half certain that the building must be on fire.

Because otherwise, none of this makes any sense.

But he is only half certain.

Because he sees no smoke coming from anywhere inside the building.

Not from the windows.

Not from the doors.

Not from any of the floors.

No smoke.

Nothing.

As he stands there contemplating the strange situation, the air around him suddenly jumps to an even higher temperature.

Hotter.

Much hotter than before.

The intern is sure it is several times hotter now.

He immediately breaks into a sprint while dialing the fire department.

------------------------------

Everyone settles in the living room.

Maeve is busy bringing cold drinking water for them.

She had been out buying groceries, and when she returned, she noticed the temperature inside the apartment slowly rising. She checked her Resya ring and found that everyone was in the gym.

She stood outside the gym door for several minutes before the heat suddenly exploded.

Maeve was never a woman of action. She was a librarian. Her life had always been peaceful, surrounded by books that rarely caused her any trouble.

When she found herself in an emergency situation, her reactions tended to be slow, which was normal for regular people.

So when she felt the heat explode from the gym, her first reaction was to freeze in shock for several seconds before she finally tried to open the gym door.

That was what she was doing when the door opened from the inside.

Now, as everyone settles down and slowly calms, they all turn their attention toward Theo, who is clearly the one with all the answers.

Theo only grins while watching his "students," who are silently waiting for his explanation.

He gets up from his seat and opens his mouth to speak when a loud alarm suddenly sounds throughout the entire building.

"What is that?!" Maeve asks in shock.

Julian immediately gets to his feet. "That’s the intruder alert."

"Huh?" Maeve looks even more confused.

The three Sentinels are already on their feet, instinctively positioning themselves to protect the other three, while Julian opens his interface to check which alarm has been triggered.

His eyebrows rise.

"There are firefighters trying to break in. They’re at the entrance on the first floor." He looks at the others.

"Firefighters? Because of what happened in the gym?" Liam asks.

"You installed Montrose Security System to prevent intruders?" Arthur asks.

Julian shrugs. "Yeah. Standard security measure. We don’t want just anyone entering RHQ, right? Especially after those reporters tried to break in."

"Who called the fire department?" Liam asks.

"That’s not important. What’s important right now is meeting the firefighters and telling them this is all one big false alarm," Alicia says.

"Let me go down there and meet them. They should know me." She adds.

"I’ll go with you," Arthur says.

"Nope." Theo stops him, placing a hand against his chest.

"You and Liam are staying right here. Both of your mana are still chaotic. Stay here and regulate them. Julian can help Maeve take care of you. I’ll go down with Alicia."

"What are you going to say?" Julian asks.

Alicia grins. "The best explanation is that there was a small incident in your lab, which you’ve already brought completely under control since, well... you’re Julian Montrose, the genius inventor."

Then her expression turns serious.

"What we really need to find out is how they knew."

Everyone else nods in agreement.

So Theo and Alicia head down to the first floor to meet the firefighters, who are still trying to break in.
