Chapter 147: Chapter 147

Caleo looked at them calmly as he pulled out his katana.

"Charge," Caleo simply commanded.

In an instant, the Attackers reacted with swift precision. An archer unleashed a flood of arrows, forcing Cypher, Christian, and Pierre to take cover. The other three, including Caleo, rushed forward, their movements coordinated and lethal.

Caleo, with a single glance, entrusted Christian and Pierre to two of his teammates, making it clear he would face Cypher alone.

Cypher, his sword already drawn, met Caleo’s advance, their encounter a dance of steel and skill. However, Cypher clenched his teeth as he exchanged blows with Caleo. He could feel the difference in their skill and experience.

Clang!

Clash!

Clang!

Their blades clashed in a shower of sparks as Caleo aimed for vulnerable points, aiming for a quick finish. However Cypher countered his attacks by blocking each of Caleo’s precise movements. He was waiting for an opening to strike his weakness.

Caleo, sensing Cypher’s strategy, shifted his tactics. He feinted, drawing Cypher into a defensive posture before unleashing a series of lightning-fast thrusts, forcing Cypher to parry with every ounce of his strength. The strain was evident on Cypher’s face as he was pushed back, step by step, forced to react to the relentless onslaught.

But then, Cypher saw the opening he was waiting for. Caleo’s’ focus was entirely on the assault, his defensive posture momentarily neglected. With a surge of adrenaline, Cypher saw his chance, and he charged. He countered, and swiftly changed the pace and strategy by launching a series of powerful strikes.

Caleo adjusted his stance. The two blades met once again, creating loud and resounding clash. The katana deflected the strike. However, the sudden change had thrown Caleo off balance for a moment.

Seizing the opportunity, Cypher unleashed a series of relentless attacks, forcing Caleo to roll to the side and dodge. Caleo quickly regained his footing, but the momentum was on Cypher’s side.

As Caleo began to rise from his defensive position, the ground beneath him suddenly gave way and fell through the tenth floor.

Thud!

Crash!

Bam!

Caleo stared up at the hole above him, brushing dirt off his shirt. "What the..." he muttered, surprised by the floor’s sudden collapse. Was it supposed to be that fragile?

Just then, Cypher shouted at the top of his lungs. "Where did you go!?"

Caleo’s face twisted in annoyance. He wanted to return to the battlefield as quickly as possible. He doesn’t care about his teammates; all he wanted to do was beat the sh!t out of that boy.

As he scrambled to his feet, a figure appeared before him. It was the same boy who had been sitting next to Remillia yesterday.

He was wearing a red wristband.

Caleo’s eyes narrowed, a sly smirk spreading across his face. This boy had feelings for Remillia too. Caleo could sense it, and it only fueled his determination to show them both that he was more worthy of her attention.

"Ah, you’re here," Caleo said, his voice dripping with malice. "I’m happy you’re from the enemy team or else I wouldn’t have any reason to fight you," he quickly dashed, his katana pointed towards Ezekiel.

Then another fight broke out at the tenth floor.

~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
I was now on the seventh floor. I hadn’t encountered anyone on the fifth and sixth, other than Christian and the guy I had defeated.
I was specifically looking for Adrian, but I pretended to be searching for artifacts, first looking at the office stalls.
"Are there any artifacts here?" I asked, feigning interest.
As I bent down at one of the office tables, I saw a robot shivering in fear. I checked if he was holding an artifact however, he wasn’t holding anything.
"Can you help me?" I asked the robot, though he didn’t respond.
"Do you know of any artifacts hidden here? I promise I won’t hurt you," I told the robot, hiding my dagger discreetly.
The robot seemed to relax slightly, as if understanding me, and pointed to one of the drawers. I opened it, and indeed, there was one. It was a small-sized replica of an artifact. He must have hidden it here because he was afraid that others would try to take it from him.
"Are there more?" I asked.
Eagerly, the robot nodded, pointing one by one to all the desk cabinets. Sure enough, I easily gathered 20 artifacts.
I knelt down and said, "As a thank you for telling me where the artifacts are, I’ll guide you to where the exit is," I told him the detailed way on where he could escape safely.
The robot repeatedly bowed his head at me.
"Go now before the others see you," I said as the robot moved and went outside.
Then I went to the bathroom and quietly looked for him. I soon found him sitting still on one of the bathroom stalls.
I opened the system shop and bought a sleeping bomb. I quietly pulled the pin and left the bomb inside before quietly closing the bathroom door. The bath bomb doesn’t release a smoke; instead, it is transparent and smells like rose. I waited for a few seconds before checking that he was sound asleep. I then picked up any evidence then threw it in my expansion pouch.
I quickly went to the clinic and looked for the item that Adrian needs to find. However, I didn’t need to sweat as a black case was plainly sitting on one of the beds. I opened it and only saw a needle.
’System scan.’
Briar Rose Needle
Attribute: poison
One prick from this and the target will fall into a weakening state. Only the holder could remove the effect by sucking out the blood pricked by the needle.
Afterwards, I opened Cybersky’ and hacked all the CCTV footages and erased the part where I went to Adrian and to the clinic while I inserted the fake footage of me going at the eighth floor the whole time I was making my move.
Then I proceeded to the eight floor to solidify the falsified footage. As I walked, I noticed Kairos walking alone, using his katana as a cane.
’Is this really Kairos?’ I thought to myself. He looked so messy, with torn clothes and a defeated expression.
I called his name, "Caleo!" as I ran up to him.
He immediately raised his katana towards me, his gaze cold and devoid of life. I quickly raised both my hands in a calming gesture. "It’s okay. We’re on the same team."
When he recognized me, his gaze immediately softened, and he put up a smile, lowering his katana. "I’ve been looking for you," he said, his voice weak.
I rushed to his side, as I helped him to sit down against a wall and settled beside him. "You’re in a really bad shape, what happened to you?" I asked, trying to hide my concern.
He began to tattle on me like a kid who had lost his candy. "I tried to ambush the enemy but failed," he grumbled.
"Oh," I responded softly.
Kairos continued, his voice weak, "Then I met Ezekiel and lost again."
"...Oh," I echoed.
He leaned his head onto my shoulder. He wasn’t finished yet. "I was in the middle of fighting Ezekiel when Christian and Pierre chased after me. And then, out of nowhere, Ezekiel’s group tried to ambush me. I was almost at my limit before getting eliminated..."
I felt a little guilty. I could have helped my teammates if not only for Adrian’s schemes!
"Come on, let me see your wounds!" I said, lifting his face gently, as I secretly accessed the system shop and purchased a healing ointment.
"Where did you get that?" Kairos asked, his gaze fixed on the small bottle.
"I have it with me all the time since I also get wounds when I train," I lied smoothly.
I focused on applying the ointment to Kairos’s face, my touch gentle, attempting to soothe away his pain. Kairos couldn’t help but smile at my considerate gesture.
Distracted by his expression, I lightly scolded him, "What are you smiling for? Do you like being injured?"
Little did she know, Kairos could easily defeat them if he wanted to. He just doesn’t want to show his ability in case someone recognizes him. He acted like a wounded puppy just for Remillia to care for him.
Once I finished applying the ointment, Kairos turned to me, a curious glint in his eye. "How many defenders did you eliminate?"
"Only one," I admitted.
He chuckled, a low, rumbling sound. "None for me."
Instructors award points based on both the number of artifacts acquired and the number of eliminations. At this rate, Kairos will likely be ranked near the bottom.
But wait... I still had the artifacts.
I rummaged through my pockets and pulled out ten of the artifacts I had gathered.
"Take these," I said, holding them out to him.
Kairos immediately shook his head. "No, it’s fine. I don’t need—"
"Just carry them and place it at our extraction point. I still have some," I cut him off before he could refuse.
"There’s someone here!" A voice shouted from nearby.
Suddenly I heard footsteps approaching us and before we could react, we were completely surrounded.
Me and Kairos are now facing Christian, Pierre, Ezekiel and five others.
The situation had just taken a drastic turn for the worse.
