Chapter 165: Chapter 165

The clock struck 8 PM, marking the end of the first day of our combat exams.

Exhausted, I returned to my dorm, ready to sink into the comfort of the sofa for some much-needed rest. But just as I was about to relax, my smartwatch pinged continuously, pulling me back into reality.

{Happy birthday witch! ^—^}

{Happy birthday witch! Let’s go have a drink!!}

{Happy birthday Remi! ~.~}

{HBD Remillia!}

{Happy B-Day LiaMeri! Watch my livestream! I have a surprise for you there!}

It suddenly dawned on me that today was February 15—my birthday, the same date as in my real world. A wave of warmth washed over me, and I quickly switched on my phone to figure out how everyone knew.

Opening UsChat, I was greeted by a bunch of party balloons and confetti that exploded across my screen. I was about to reply to those who greeted me when a loud knock echoed from my door.

A smile appeared on my face and was about to reply them when I heard a knock on my room.

I swung the door open just in time to have a burst of confetti shoot straight into my face, some bits even landing straight in my mouth.

"Happy birthday, Remillia!" Multiple voice shouted.

"Blegh!" I spat out the pieces of confetti and glared at Rex who was holding the empty confetti popper.

"Hiik!" he yelped as immediately tossed the confetti cannon away as if it were on fire.

"What brings you guys here?" I managed to ask, trying to shake off the surprise.

All of them are here. Cypher, Christian, Whitney, Rex, Angela, and Edge.

Christian and Cypher were carrying two large bags which I’m probably guessing are foods since I can smell a certain aroma that I used to eat.

"To celebrate your birthday, duh," Christian said, waltzing into my room as if he owned the place followed by the rest.

Wow. I hadn’t even invited them, yet here they were, interrupting my sleep. I closed the door behind me and headed towards the living room, glancing back at them.

"It’s late. Shouldn’t we be resting to prepare for tomorrow’s exam?" I questioned, a hint of concern creeping into my voice.

The rest of the group were busy, unpacking the food they had brought, while Edge sat aloof on the sofa, looking bored, with Macaron eyeing him from the other side.

Whitney looked at me eagerness. "Well, there’s still time for dinner, right?"

Angela smiled reassuringly. "Yep! And I’m guessing you haven’t eaten yet, so we decided to crash your place and celebrate your birthday."

I eyed the table, now piled high with a delicious assortment of food. It was suddenly hard to argue against their logic.

Cypher gestured for me to take a seat beside him. "I’m sorry we couldn’t find a cake, so we brought a bunch of creampuff instead. I remembered you like them."

As soon as the words left his mouth, my eyes sparkled with delight. "Awww, thank you, guys!" My heart swelled at the gesture, completely forgetting the exam for tomorrow.

And with that, we spent that time, laughing, munching on food and sharing stories. They finally decided to leave five minutes before twelve o’clock.

The midterm combat exam finally wrapped up, leaving me with a mix of relief and anticipation as I prepared to meet Whitney. Just as I was about to head out, my smartwatch pinged, catching my attention.

[Midterm break will be starting next week] ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

[There will be a field trip sponsored by Peenoise Corporation next Friday. First-year students are allowed to join on a first-come-first-serve basis.]

I frowned, the mention of Peenoise Corporation stirring no interest in me. The name didn’t even ring a bell, and honestly, I figured it was just another minor event—not worth my time. I’d much rather catch up on sleep than attend a field trip.

After dismissing the notification, I left my dorm and made my way to the lily park, which was just a short stroll from the training facility.

As I entered the park, I spotted Whitney waving enthusiastically from a secluded spot. Even though it was dusk, she rocked a pair of sunglasses that looked as if they belonged on a beach instead of in a park.

"Remillia!" she called out, her voice carrying across the gentle rustle of leaves. Next to her was a suitcase, the source of my excitement.

When I approached, Whitney pulled the suitcase closer and popped it open. "Here are the daggers you asked for."

As the lid lifted, I was met with a stunning sight—brand new daggers that are made from obsidiarite and very lightweight. My eyes widened in delight. "Thank you for this, Whitney!"

My heart raced as I turned the daggers in my hands, marveling at their craftsmanship. "I’ll wire you the money later; just send me the details of your bank account!"

But as I was about to close the suitcase and leave, she stopped me again.

"Ah, wait, there’s something else," she said, reaching into her bag and pulling out a paper bag.

I tilted my head, curious. "What’s this?"

Whitney grinned, clearly excited. "It’s a thigh sheath for your daggers. It’s quite expensive, so use it well. I’m sorry I couldn’t give it to you on your birthday; I forgot to bring it, and then the exams kept us busy."

"Wow, thank you!" I took the sheath eagerly and slipped it on. As I secured it under my skirt, I was amazed at how it immediately adjusted to fit perfectly on my thigh. It was lightweight and snug, even with my daggers tucked away.

"Oh, this is great!" I said and wore it under my skirt. It immediately adjusted its size and clung to my thigh perfectly. It is also incredibly lightweight even though I’ve put my daggers in it.

Whitney observed my satisfaction, a pleased smile on her face. "Looks good on you," she said, then turned to leave. "I’ll be off, then."

"...Yeah, thanks again!" I called after her, waving as she walked away, a warm feeling in my chest for her thoughtfulness.

Next on my agenda? Karaoke with my squad team. They won’t stop bugging me so I had no choice but to join them.

The Academy is packed of all kinds. They had a hang out community. It had a karaoke, bowling alley, computer cafe and other arcade facilities. After exams, this place was like a carnival, crowded with students and the sounds of laughter.

When I arrived, my teammates were already gathered, waiting for me.

"Remillia!" Hannah waved her hands excitedly, practically bouncing on her heels.

"The main character always shows up late, eh?" Alena remarked, crossing her arms and feigning annoyance.

"Ah, sorry! I met with someone before coming here," I replied, offering an apologetic smile.

"Now that Remillia is here... Let’s go?" Ezekiel pointed toward the karaoke bar like it was a new place to him.

"Yeah, let’s go in already!" Hannah took the lead, practically dragging us along.

Once we’re inside the karaoke bar, I could hear different voices singing out loud in different rooms.

Ezekiel peeked through the glass windows, his expression reflecting a mix of awe and uncertainty. "Wow... it’s a lot louder than I expected," he muttered, taking a step back.

Hannah cheerfully made her way to the counter. "A room for five people!" she declared proudly, flashing her cadet card.

The staff scanned her card and smiled at us. "Room 32. Have fun!"

Ezekiel, overhearing, suddenly transformed into a marching soldier, murmuring "room 32, room 32..." under his breath as he led us toward our karaoke domain.

As soon as Ezekiel flung open the door, he rushed inside. Just as I was about to follow him, the door next to us swung open.

"Remillia?" A familiar voice called out, surprising me. It was Kairos emerging from room 31.

"I didn’t know you liked singing," I said with a smile, genuinely curious. I can’t imagine him singing—what would his voice even sound like?

"Yeah... I was kinda forced to come here," he admitted, scratching his head sheepishly. "What about you? Did you just arrive?"

I nodded, chuckling lightly. "Apparently, I was also dragged here against my will!"

"We came a little early and decided to go on our ways. Who are you with anyway?" Kairos asked and glanced over my shoulder into our room, spotting Ezekiel inside.

in an instant, they glared at each other before looking away. I looked back and forth between them. I don’t know what’s happening between them so I chose to ignore it.

Kairos returned his focus to me. "You said you were forced, right? What if you ditch karaoke and we find somewhere else to go?" he suggested, although he was smiling I could sense that he’s really serious about it.

I shook my head, biting back a smile. "I can’t do that. If I leave, they’ll annoy me until I give in and go back with them anyway."

Just as I was explaining, someone tugged on my sleeve. It wasn’t Ezekiel or Hannah—it was Adrian.

"...What?" I questioned, looking up at him. Why are men here always so damn tall?! My neck hurts just by staring at them!

Adrian’s expression was stoic, but his eyes spoke volumes.

"Ah, okay..." I finally understood his silent plea. I turned back to Kairos. "Let’s catch up next time. My friends are calling me. Bye, Caleo!"

Before I could say anything more, Adrian pulled me inside the room and shut the door behind us.
